I really like how it collapses pretty flat and the 'pistol grip' angle adjustment. I also like that the mount supports the light vs the light supporting the modifier but for me the packability is a big selling point. Pretty much all of the quick opening octa's on the market are still 6-7" in diameter at one end when closed because of the speedring. This doesn't pack down quite as small as my similar sized Quantum QF-35 octa's with the AD200 bare bulb compatible mount, but damn if it isn't faster to open and far easier to gel. I may just have to look into a few AD100's....

I really like your videos, I watch every episode as they come out. I have to say please consider your audio, there is a lot of echo and over all clarity of your voice (which is quite nice) is fairly low. You have good things to say but it's the audio quality needs to improve so it's easier and more pleasent to listen to you :)

My only issue with the Angler, Profoto and SMDV 24 is they're just to damn small. I want a minimum of a 28. I tried the Angler. Didn't like the lighting look and to limited to head shots. SMDV offers a 28 but no one else does. Fitting the Ad200 round head doesn't really do much for me as the AD100 has been proven to be as powerful as the AD200 round head. Because the AD200 round head doesn't provide near the light the Ad200 bare bulb does. I wish the Ad200 bare bulb had a magnetic mount too.

The AD100 works perfectly in the boxes - but if you don’t like the look it produces that really isn’t a point that helps.

Good news is there are larger options now at Adorama with the Parasnap 36" and 44" softboxes. I just got the 44" and it's great!

Hey John, thank you so much for sharing! Question, if I got the speedlight bracket for the fastbox, would the AD 200 especially with the extension head, or even the AD360ii fit?

That is a real good question. I think the 200 With the extension head and round head would work with the magnetic unit. But I don’t know if it would work with the bracket

Yes, the V1 adapter works with the AD100 and the round head for the AD200

I’ve heard yes, but I am not personally sure. I know the flip style is out there but some do not have the magnets.

@@kaskoPhoto Thanks! Here in Europe we dont have Angler, so the SMDV seems similiar. But you need also to buy an external godox v1 adapter. Do you know if the Profoto Click will work out of the box with godox ad100? Seems the price difference between SMDV + V1 Adapter versus Profoto is not that big. Thanks for your good content!

@@vadim534 I do not. Size wise they are very similar. And I do use the Profoto accessories on the V1 and AD100 - but that is all I can contribute.

your title is a misleading because it's not exactly the same box. Profoto has some important improvements as you don't need adapters and can put gels directly on it without adapters. And here you don't show the Profoto.

Profoto doesn’t need an adapter because it only works with Profoto… this Angler is more versatile, no need to see the Profoto version side by side on this 🙄 Just my .02 cents tho

@@AlexanderBischof I used to shoot Profoto. Saying they're dead reliable is a joke. I had to send mine in to be worked on many times. With Godox I have more options for size and power and also if it broke I could just buy another cheaper than the price to fix a Profoto. LOL
