Refreshing to hear an honest review. You review dozens of poles at a variety of budgets and led me to buy a 301. If you praise every pole or just don’t mention the faults people could end up with the wrong pole.

Love the honest review, makes a refreshing change. I’ve seen so many reviews of poles which are misleading people into spending a lot of money, especially when they don’t have a pole alley nearby to try them. Of all the manufacturers, Matrix customer service has also been by far the worst when it come to breakages imho.

When I was checking poles out in my local angling direct in January I was told by the staff in there not to bother waiting for the MTX4 V2. They said I would be disappointed and I thought that they was just saying that so I would buy a pole there and then. Well seems they was being straight up. Just glad I got the Maver MV-R4 now. Great honest review Ben, it really looks a bag of poop for the money

Interesting, match man I know got rid of Preston pole because it broke 3 times he seems happy with the new matrix. Those poles are way out of my price range, I have the MTX 1 range at 13metres and I love it. Caught many double figure carp from Monks lake up to over 16lbs and never had a break or problem.

Fantastic review Ben Love it cos your so honest"crap" made me chuckle I was shocked as matrix make great poles and tackle, Wonder how good the mtx ultra 5 is at 16m? Great review, this is why I watch this channel ,so ordinary anglers can get help from the likes of yourselves on buying new tackle, and in this case save you from buying a top end pole that's rubbish👍

Interesting feedback on what was their Top of the Range pole (MTX4) back in 2019-2022. Imagine a lot of people were expecting an improvement on the v1 range. Great to see some honest feedback on some of these new products as it’s very difficult to find a pole alley/Tackle shop that has the variety on show like Tackle and Bait. Tightlines.

Had this about 1 month. My choice was between this and the Superium x70. In the alley the weight difference at all lengths (for me) were marginal. I thought this was slightly stiffer, but again very marginal differences

Honest review Ben I agree it seems if Matrix are going in reverse I always thought the way forward was for stiffer lighter poles. I can imagine these been left on the shelf as there are plenty alternatives out there in this price bracket. Cheers Ben

I'm sure in the build-up to release it was tagged as more of a commercial anglers pole. Still a less than glowing review - maybe they made a mistake shoeing this in to the range given that the new 5 is the upgraded original 4?

Honestly try it for yourself. 100% everyone should give there honest opinions as Ben has, however I struggle with back problems but have fished this 14.5m and 16m on load of occasion and it’s been totally fine for me.

Great Video Ben. Looking from the Tip back wards to you, the Pole at 16 meters looked like a 20 yr Old Maver Medusa Pole. Even at 14.5 meter you looked uncomfortable holding it. It's great to have great extra's such as Power kits etc but when the Pole is basically a great 13 Meter Max Carp pole its nowhere worth the price Matrix are charging. Good honest assesment.

The MTX 4 v2 can't be compared to the MTX4 v1 because the replacement for the v1 is the new MTX5 v2. The new MTX4 was designed to sit somewhere between the old MTX4 and MTX3. Confusing I know.

@@Angling4U No it's not the same pole. The new MTX5 is supposed to be an improvement on the MTX4 that Jamie uses. I noticed a while back that Jamie was using the newer V2 butt sections with his older MTX4. He is still using his MTX4 but when the cameras are on him. He uses MTX5 butt sections. Making it look like he is using a new MTX5 pole, but he isn't.

Unfortunately people will just buy these poles because Jamie hughes is sponsored by them. I use a diawa original silver tourny pro which is good and well balanced at 14m, with 16m section its a tad heavy. will say this. Ive personally held an Air which is a lovely pole so the air z pro must be very good. Ive also held all of the top of the range browning poles and they are so good, if money was no object I would buy a browning

The new MTX 5 is heavier than the older MTX 4. Matrix have gone backwards. Watched a couple of Jamie Hughes and Jon Arthur videos. Seems they are shoving V2 butt sections onto their older MTX4's and were passing them off as the new V2 versions. Crafty buggers.

If these poles are handled by the MATRIX Consultants and come to the same conclusions , why have they put it into Production at that price ? , someone must have cut corners in the Matrix Design Team or Not overseen quality control and Tested the Product Properly? . If the above is true Matrix have lost a bit of their good reputation and this will be expensive to put right , as well as time consuming to get Customers back on their side . LESSONS LEARNT HERE , DONT try to fob Customers off with Mutton and charge same price as Lamb.

This pole is NOT heavy at all. I have just been to my local which has a pole alley. Now I have issues with my back so I need a light but responsive pole for my fishing. I picked up a G90 pro and this pole and the MTX4 V2 is lighter, stiffer and more responsive than the G90 Pro!!!! I've been working in the angling trade for 10+ years and I will say this is the worst review I have seen. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but to say its "terrible" is just wrong! 😡

The joys of personal opinion bud. My advice is not to buy what I say or not, it is my opinion on personal feel for me. I believe that they rushed these poles and they were not up to scratch compared to the v1 poles. I think it was as if they added more strength which intern through off the balance. Unfortunately lots of others agree in the attached comments. Again my opinions hopefully you get the right pole for your fishing tight lines.

Actually there is a way to go. Carbon sheet is still improving. It's not the carbon that changes. It's the resins that are used to bind the carbon together. Some of the very high tech ones are as expensive as gold weight for weight.
