Quick Jetty Fishing Session For Some Nice Black Rockfish

coastal fishing a jetty on the oregon coast for a couple big black rockfish / black sea bass. This is just a quick morning rock fishing session on the jetty. I had recently picked up a few swimbaits at a gas station because why not? You can always use more! I've been fishing jetties all along the oregon coast recently, from Winchester bay jetty to newport jetty to barview jetty and have been finding a lot of success this season, and some big rockfish!
I started fishing about an hour before the high tide slack tide. I've found that fishing a strong incoming tide with low swells can be very productive in some of the areas i've been fishing. As always, things change and are condition dependent.
i really don't have much to say about this video and am curious how many of you actually read this stuff.
Anyhoo.. I picked up some swimbaits from a gas station, i'd say they were cheap swimbaits but i'm sure i paid about twice as much as i would have had i purchased them in town. I like to buy white swimbaits and just throw them in with a mix of darker colors with some chartreuse colors in hopes that the colors will "bleed" onto the white baits. As much as i like the white swimbaits, i like them even more when they have a little character added to them.

Spearfish the jetty surprised people including me don’t catch them every fast often so many in giant schools but hey spearfishing is great at least I get one every few dives rod is a bit of a challenge

Glad the seas were relatively calm for you. I was out there Tue evening and waves were crazy: it was simply too dangerous to effectively fish. Drove home and had a beer instead.

nice work! my buddy and I hit the jetty with the wild eye and the big hammer swim baits and caught 2 ling each. They were all a hair shy of legal, but by far the most success I've had on the jetty. Thanks for the recommendations

My merrell Moab 2s have always had really good grip on the jetty rocks, but I think any good work/hiking boot will do. You just have to be careful and be sure of your footing at all times.

Thank you! You answered my question. Gloves! Were I fish a landing net is a must but I can see that would be a liability crawling around the rocks with the tide coming in. Is 20lb fluorocarbon leader enough on a 30 lb braided line?

I had used some for a few fish in one of my other videos. I do like using them but usually if i am it is because i am still switching through baits looking for whats going to work and it's much easier to just swap out baits on a snap swivel but once i've found something that is working i go without.. i haven't seen enough of a difference in catching, but the easy swap out is a huge bonus that saves time

I went out for a few hours just before the weekend but things warmed up quick. I'm hoping to get out early morning these next few days. This time of the year is usually harder for me to get out and fish. lure sales pick up and i spend a lot of time in the shop.. hoping to find some fish though!!
