The whole idea of this rig is that it has a super-aggressive curve in the shrink tube. This makes it extremely difficult for the carp to eject once the fish has picked up the bait. Used with a pop up, the rig sits like a claw waiting to grab hold of the carp’s bottom lip. The tungsten putty used just below the shrink tubing helps bring the pop-up down to the lakebed. The other addition is the hook ring swivel. This gives the bait optimum movement, which is key to making this rig work as well as it does.

Can this rig be done with fluorocarbon? Or monofilament lines?

Hello Tyler, yes there's no reason you couldn't use fluorocarbon or mono.

The rig wouldn't turn very well if you used a stiff material straight through the suppler the braid the better the rig mechanics work

Never used it but I reckon there will be many cases of the hook not turning right... and it could easily bounce away from the carps mouth.

Not for me either. This is an old rig from 30 years back when soft braid was all you can really get. Back then great. A shrink tube stiff rig for perfect bottom lip hooking. Now there is no major difference using this or say a chod stiff link that’s bent around. You just don’t need to use it with a now stiffer lines and newer tech. They will reset just as well and not stand out like a giant banana below your boilee. It’s also limited for use on single baits on wondering carp that come down onto the bait. Then no issue on direction. If as you infer it’s a carp hoovering up free offerings, someone in low and sideways, there is a high chance it will bounce and only 50/50 it’s correct way around. That plus it’s highly visible (banana comment) vs a stiff flouro..... Hence limited use and surpassed by far better rigs. Yes will catch carp, but so does dried sheep dung. I think we need to draw a line into the sand on the science on some of this outdated stuff that gets recycled in Carp mags That said great video still shows you how to tie it so video wise great 🤣🤣
