I was the writer /researcher on that series. A six parter on the history of the Anglo-Irish first shown on Channel 4. Very proud of it I was too.. The three sisters were a find!

I would love to watch this series in it's entirety, it's fascinating. Is it available anywhere? It doesn't appear to be on youtube.

It is indeed from a series called Crown and Shamrock, a four parter , I think. I remember it aired at the time on telly , I was 10 years old , it's so great to see it again , and so great of you to find it!

Miss Gore Booth; absolute valiance

I met Miss Gore-Booth several times on those tours, her sister was also present. They were gracious and only gave a small hint at their desperation. Sir Jocelyn was also a gentleman but a little more eccentric than his aunts, he was entertaining as a guide but by his time the place was really in such a pitiful state it was inevitable that he would be forced to sell. He did however design and build a wonderful house in England which was awarded architectural prizes for design. I’m sure though that he missed Lissadell. I’m glad I had the opportunity to encounter these remnants of thee once prosperous Anglo-Irish, part of our culture and heritage whether one approves of them or not.

What were their families doing during the famine?

Why even refer to it as a "famine"? Aren't we Tired of being patronised about a genocide

Same as all families were doing during the famine

Not all the aristocracy were bad to Irish people during the famine, and indeed many helped us best they could, grant it some were bad and wanted us off the land. During the terrible years of the famine, Lord Wallscourt worked to ensure the well-being of his own tenants, and those on other estates in the area.
