Yes. But you are forgetting an important detail, despite apparently spending an incredible amount of time looking into this. You are describing Sharia from a generalized Sunni perspective. That's the right starting point because of how much Sunnis dominate Islam. But don't forget: there are four versions of Sharia in Sunni Islam, plus the two more recent waves of "reformers" - Salafism (which is very backward) and secular Muslims found largely in the West. Then there are the two branches of Shia Islam which practice a conservative interpretation of Sharia. Actually, sometimes, a name *can* be misleading. For example, see the allusions to "democracy" in "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea"... or the "Democratic Party" (Like with most other terms, the socialist/communist interpretation of "democracy" is *very* different from actual democracy) The problems in the Islamic Republic of Iran are absolutely Islamic, though.
