A little about me:
My name's Minoo, and I'm originally from Iran.
I obtained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Diploma in England in 1985.
Since then, I've been an English teacher, teacher trainer, and course director in various schools and countries. I'm also a trained confidence coach.
In 2008, my son, Tom, and I set up the Anglo-Link platform for online English studies.
This led to the creation of our popular KZbin channel in 2011.
My passion is to share with you what I've learnt on my own English language journey, both as a student and as a teacher, so that you can become a fluent speaker of English too.

Simply the best video ever. The best way to learn English, or another language, is to listen to a native's tips. I say that because I'm brazilian and it's weird when a foreigner comes to visit the country and try to talk to someone... actually they aren't wrong, but in almost all countries people in their dayly routine just make sentences without grammar rules. I've not understood all you said so far because my English is a work in progress, but I will watch this great video again and again until I make sentences like you, a native speaker. Thanks a lot for help us! Best wishes, cya!

brilliant ! couldn't be better than this ...haven't seen such shiny explanations in all my "being a student of youtube career"thanks as much as you guys deserve, regarding to the fact that you are the best in youtube land ... waiting to the new one,and could you please tell me ,is it; cause of my 'low capacity of saved words' or something else although, I am pretty good at grammar and listening skill .and I've got some problem with understanding the academic side ,like my college books and some scientific articles.wouldn't it be nice to share your valuable tips on the mentioned problem of mine . and could you please guess my level in English based on my written words!!
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Nasher. It would be wrong of me to evaluate your level without listening to you speak. All I can say is that you've expressed yourself well. If anything, you need to work on your punctuation a little. As for expanding your academic vocabulary, it will gradually grow by itself.However, if you want to give it a push, it will be helpful to do the reading and vocabulary exercises in any TOEFL preparation book.

Wow, excellent work! I've been watching quite a number of video about PPC on YT throughout almost whole day and can say for sure that yours is the best. But I remain confused because I haven't found an answer to my question. And my question is - does PPC work with the passive voice, adjectives and anything else? I can see such expressions as "it has been settled", "it has been steady", "it has been a pleasure" and so on. Aren't they correct or I've just missed something? Could you help me, just a couple of words. Sorry for my English.
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 7 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you've enjoyed this lesson! To answer your question: Your sentences are not in PPC. They are in PP with the verb 'be' as the MAIN verb: be + normal adjective: It is steady. / It was steady. / It has been steady. be + participle adjective: It is settled. / It was settled. / It has been settled. be + noun: It is a pleasure. / It was a pleasure. / It has been a pleasure.

hello teacher, about state verb and the action verb, there is an opinion, but I am not sure whether it is right or not.The example is below: 1.I realise that it is hard to get on well with him. means: Maybe I have realised this situation some years ago, this situation(it is hard to get on well with him) is not new for me. 2.I am realising that it is hard to get on well with him. means: I just know this situation(it is hard to get on well with him), it is new for me.

Yes, you could make this distinction, and use 'I'm realising'. If you want to be grammatically more correct, you could say: I'm beginning to realise ...

Hello. I'm confused. Could you write please more verbs that we can use in Pres. Perfect Simple and Pr.Perfect Continuous with the same meaning. For example: Live, work, study, teach 1) I've taught English since 2019= I've been teaching English since 2019 2) I've studied English since 2020 = I've been studying English since 2019. How about " Drive, Go, Play " etc. He's been driving the same car since 2015 = He's driven the same car since 2015. ( Is it correct ??? ). Could you write more verbs with examples please. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for answering my question.You mean ppc expresses a habitual temporary action happening recently . We have been told that adverbs of frequency are not used with continuous tenses .Also when we say two ... (books ) we use present perfect simple.I am confused now . The teacher's book has put it as you said .Thanks for being patient.
@AngloLinkEnglish

That's right, Hanaa. It's not just about two books having been read up to now, but the habit of reading two books per week.

I just subscribed. You're a legend! So technically native speakers are just freely treating some words as both stative and action right? Some students get confused because in some computer tests they are marked wrong they never get an explanation.

Thank you! Yes, native speakers know instictively when they can take liberties with the language.

Hi, I have finally been able to find some good explications of this present perfect continuous, thank you! The doubt I still have refers to the negative form. You said it is quite uncommon to find this form and you mentions some exceptions...but is it not common to find it (and the only correct way for actions verbs) if it is specified the time you haven't been doing that? Example: I haven't been playing football for 5 years.Thank u!!
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Marco. That's the point. Although your sentence is correct, a native speaker would say: 'I haven't played football for 5 years.'

Your videos are incredibel! I have a silly question: We see some people writing, "I was here", but I think it sould be "I've been here" since there is no time specified in the past. Am I right? Anyway, is it OK to write, "I was here"? Thank you!
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, Elmar! Interesting question! Yes, the correct phrase is: 'X was here!' not 'X has been here!' I suppose it's because when it is read by a future visitor, the action was clearly in the past with no connection to the present.

hi Minoo.. thank u many many times for your simple and great videos. Regarding the negative form of present perfect continues, when I am writing a formal letter on a women who has stopped eating for the last 2 days and she is still not eating. Which one is correct?.....Mrs. James has not eaten from two days, Mrs. James has not been eating from two days, or Mrs. James has been stopping eating from two days....? Thanks for ur help
@AngloLinkEnglish

You're very welcome, Noha. The two possibilities are: Mrs James has not eaten FOR (not from) two days. Mrs James stopped eating two days ago.
