I studied in Singapore for 11 years but went back home for good now. There was once when I came back to SG for a visit, and I took a taxi to Changi to return home. The taxi driver asked me "Oh you going for business trip is it?" And I said "No I'm going back home" and he was like "Why you speak like Singaporean?!" Or another time where I went back to my hotel from my friend's house in Bukit Batok and the Grab driver asked me "Bro you going for your night shift is it". Hahaha. Good times.

Privilege due to ethnicity is a sad reality in Singapore. The colonial mentality is holding us back. Why should Singaporeans treat a white person better compared to our locals and other ethnic groups. Personally I treat everyone the same regardless of Ethnicity, Social economic background. Its sad Singaporeans have not changed this Privilege by colour mentality. I mean seriously, Looks whats going on in the US and Europe towards Asians. That is some perspective.

@@Caging101 its not only Singaporean though. We as Asia has this mentality, especially us in the S.E.A. White people are treated better than most locals most of the time. Its not the White person's fault obviously but we need to overhaul our perception of our own people.

Exactly! Like anywhere in country. For example in singapore chinese get treatment different from malay or indian. Example even if you mix race, ic put chinese but appearance looks malay still get different treatment. Like one of the experience is they say in interview, "you need to be able to speak mandarin" after knowing you can, the say "oh need to be able to speak and write", again after knowing you can they say "actually we need a chinese worker due to this and that and after knowing you are one they suddenly say not looking anymore but still advertise that they need. So yes, lightet skin always get privileges more.

But now in Seocndry school, not a lot of ppl cared about my skin condition. But there will always be a time when your teachers ask you to take off your jacket if I wasn't sick. And EVERYONE IN THE CLASS would just stare and pity you. I HATE THAT FEELING. But since it has already been 8 months, I'm feeling more comfortable and used to all the staring. Her talking abt how her skin colour gets her treated differently makes my blood boil. One ang moh got picked to get 50K a mth to do this mgt job (C-level) in my company (she was the first few full time ang mohs ever in the history of my company, a few came after her.) and all she did was employ other ang moh consultant friends to do portions of her job she couldn't handle at $2000 PER DAY (I handled the contracts). And the permanent staff she employed were those who could help her job where she did not have the skills for, their skills helped HER achieve her KPIs but were not what the dept needed. She only needed to assess and sign off on the recommendations by these people, then assimilate the recommendations to current biz and execute. Whereas my 2 SG bosses who left after their contracts ended (a C-level and a VP) bootstrapped for the company, both did everything (no expensive consultants) and Ang Moh's current pay per mth paid for BOTH their mthly salaries. When I treated her just like how I treated my 2 Singaporean bosses (informally friendly but without the deference and reverence that Asians still treat ang mohs nowadays), she was very threatened and thought I was disrespectful and transferred me out after the 3-mth perfunctory 'give it a chance' was over. Talk abt white fragility. She was also sneaky - she asked the VP, a local Singaporean, also my other boss, to front the transfer, bc she knew she would get a backlash since she was a foreigner if she did it. Watch out, the rise of Asia will put them on the other end in the next hundred years.

@jeneuweenlaf9483 жыл бұрын
@@anchored555 It won't chg the ending by much. Their finding will just turn out the conclusion that Singaporeans just don't have the international exposure. While I agree that foreigners do bring something to the table, just by the fact that their thinking is different; In as much as that is true, when Singaporeans go out internationally, we are also appreciated for the different kind of thinking we bring with us. I just find this ang moh sooooo..... 'fragile' ..... That 50K is just so not worth it, which brings me back to the initial point made by the girl in the vid that pissed me off - that Ang Mohs get this glow around them just bc they're white and therefore superior. I will find it worthwhile if she can transform the DNA of the biz with her OWN CAPABILITY and bring a different paradigm and execute it. Like how Elon Musk brings the entire industry of auto vehicles up to a whole different playing field. See how Ford and GM chgd to include EVs and how XPENG and NIO came up nipping at the heels of Tesla bc of him? Now, THAT is value.
