IMO it was a battlefront thing but to EA’s credit, they did backtrack pretty quick, in my mind it was COD advanced warfare that started this BS, because you could pay to get loot boxes to get weapon variants that were better than the default weapons... how disgusting... GTA online also didn’t exactly help matters, it’s blatantly pay to win and with the updates it’s also kinda pay to play, same thing is happening to RDR2 online, cept they got smarter and made it all a premium currency so there’s a even better chance you have to buy it 🤷‍♂️
