My favorite thing I love hearing from people upset from a low price is that they’ll sell it to a museum, not knowing that museums don’t really buy things, they take donations and when they do buy stuff it’s at a ridiculously low price. Also if the item has such a significant role in history, any museum can file the proper paperwork to the federal government to seize the item from the original owner without paying them. So it’s really a risk to flaunt your historical item to any museum when you’re looking on selling.

You are correct up to the point about not paying. While the government can confiscate certain items of historical value they will have to pay full market price. It's part of due process. Sunken treasure is one of the times they don't and that's due to treaties which many believe aren't valid on the ships they're used on (i.e. the Spanish lay claim to ships from the 14-1600s which is ridiculous because they have gone through several governments since by claiming they are military ships)

That's because the whole singature verification and handwriting thing is a pseudoscience, people don't really write the same all the time and can change how they write at will. You can verify that things are fake quite often but you can never really prove handwriting actually is real or belongs to a specific person. The best thing handwriting "experts" can do is a decent guess.

There are real forensic handwriting experts who are trained and really do take it to a science level. Signature authenticators are not those people though.

what the guy doesnt get is if it was linked to what he claimed is one thing, however the fact the original motor and the transmission is not on the car nor is it "finished" it actually dropped in value. Golden Rule is if a car is truly linked to a known figure or history, ALWAYS keep it original to be able to keep the high value of it. Alot of people dont understand that and think just because something is "upgraded" will make it more valuable when in most cases its the opposite

It’s mostly people who want/need money NOW. I think that’s why some of them get upset. They have some big gambling debt or some other things where they have to have the money right away, then when they’re told it isn’t worth as much as they thought or they get a lowball offer, the stress of their desperate need for the money kicks in and they lash out. Of course you should try to sell to an end customer instead of a middle-man who is trying to make a profit. The middle-man’s whole game is dependent on giving you the least amount of money they can get away with, and then selling the item for the most money they can. You’ll never get the price that the item is “worth”, because he’s got to sell it for that price, so he’s got to give you much less.

I took a test drive with my son with a guy. The car was in a minor accident and the steering had a little kink in it. Told him of the issues and I didn't even make an offer and said thanks, and walked off. The accident damage and bad steering was not mentioned in the ad. A few minutes later he called my son cussing and yelling we wasted his time. I told my son to just say thanks for the test drive and we appreciate the time he spent with us.

I understand a expert coming in to verify reality of a item, but they should not give estimate of value. Total conflict of interest. Never ever understood that obvious flaw. It total under cuts the negotiation. But they know what doing.

They mentioned multiple times that they are not appraisers, they’re simply giving their personal opinion on how much they and any common person would pay for the item. Pawn shops will pay below what the common person would pay, always keep this in mind when you’re selling to a pawn shop. Saying “oh this item is worth this much and anyone would buy it for this much” is a terrible excuse, always keep in mind that your item will 50% less when selling to any pawn shop.
