Unless he signed a contract specifically stating that there would be no refunds given for missed flights, the expectation that he has to pay for a service that he never used is ridiculous. What is STANDBY if not an official attempt to work around the problem of people missing flights or desiring to fly early etc? From Wikipedia: "Currently, United Airlines charges a USD 75 fee for standby travel to all passengers except passengers on full fare tickets, 1K passengers, Global Services passengers and premium cabin passengers. American Airlines restricts free standby to passengers who have elite status or fully refundable tickets, and charges a USD 75 fee for all other passengers who wish to secure a confirmed standby seat within 24 hours of their desired flight time.[1] In all cases, distressed passengers (passengers whose flights have been cancelled, denied boarding, etc.) are given free standby and highest priority." It is sad to see so many people just assume the worst possible outcome as being entirely legitimate, as if basic consumer rights didn't exist. Like sheep.

Every airline has its rules. SouthWest has a prior 10 minute check in (domestic). If you don't, per the contract you have (which is the receipt), you have given them the right to sell your seat to standby clients (they *are* a business). Period. Know their rules, act like an adult when you've fucked up due to ignorance or negligence. These tantrums will ultimately backfire. This is me (level of frustration) after watching several of these YT videos (plus I work in CS and deal with ignorant, entitled tears everyday).

Sure, for the overnight bank transactions. But not nearly as long as writing and waiting for a piece of paper to be sent to you, that you then have to cash. Just sending the letter part takes longer than the electronic refund. But that's beside the major point anyway. The greater point is that the airline guy and the thread author are acting as if this airline's procedures are necessarily the way things have to be or are even acceptable when they're not. This is horrible customer relations, which unfortunately is par for the course these days.

I'm sorry, but if you're late for your flight, that's (most of the time) your own damn fault and not the airline's problem. They're not obligated by any means to give you a refund unless you missing your flight was the airline's fault (which in this case it wasn't). And I don't think you understand how a business works. Businesses are there... to make MONEY. Full stop. If they just started giving out refunds to EVERYBODY who showed up late, then that would lead to people taking advantage of the system and the airline loosing money. Get your facts straight!

Why? He missed his flight. I'm surprised he can get a refund in the first place. Imagine a flight being fully booked and 50% doesnt show up. Now the company has to pay back 50%, but those empty seats could easily have been filled up with people who knew how to get there on time. NeZayah In Britain and Ireland, you only have to be there 2 hours beforehand as far as I know, but that's still plenty of time! They even said if he was there half an hour beforehand he would have been on the flight, so he definitely had plenty of elbow room.

Yardidol But it's a bullshit policy that's borne out of nothing other than the corporations making things a hassle for no reason. I doubt he paid with cash, I'm sure it was a credit transfer. Well they can credit transfer the money right back to his account the same way the credit card system requested the "money" (which is actually just some digits in the computer system) from his account in the first place. He doesn't need to write anything. The airline knows they didn't put him on the flight. They can just refund him. Plenty of systems refund you right away. Its not the employee's fault who's standing their, but the company itself is just being A-holes making people jump through hoops for nothing.

I work as an Aircraft Mechanic in the daylight hours every time I go on a Gate call (I.E. when a plane has an maintenance issue). I get the evil eye from the passengers on board the flight (if they are boarded)....Sometimes I have to get them removed if the mx item is severe enough to warrants their removal. I always shut the cockpit door and talk to the flight crew alone on the Flight deck. Our flight attendants get a lot of abuse from them some will just flat out resign..and I do not blame them.

I was a bit confuse in Luton airport when I left for the first time, but had plenty of time to find the right way, hoever the beer is way over priced there, I paid over 4£ for a heineken, when the price home is under 1£
