Hey Rudy, LGS owner here. I agree with most of what you've said, with one main sticking point: I do think Magic is going to suffer from these choices in the long-term. We're already seeing some of the fallout playing out right now, cancelling their big flagship cash prize events has been disastrous for the player base around here. And don't get me wrong, I'm not mad or worried at all; all these guys are still giving me the same dollars every week, they're just buying Yugioh, Flesh & Blood, and/or Warhammer instead of Magic. It's definitely weird times, but I'm not worried about our long-term prospects at all, we're actually enjoying a hell of a growth year right now, we're just doing it while we're scaling back all of our Magic to basically Commander nights.

The funny thing is that Rudy actually knows its overall good for the consumer. The reason is he did it BEFORE Wizards did it! However this isn't MTG finance...this is WOTC making money while servicing the customer and giving customers a fair shake. You know what system was FAR FROM FAIR? LGS and MTG. Especially if you didn't live in a major city. Rudy either doesn't know about that or never cares to talk about it. WOTC going all in on Amazon is the best thing that could ever happen to MTG players who don't live in major cities. Just as an example...my local LGS could only acquire about 5 of each commander set within the first major release. Our store had at least 20 active commander players that I knew of and who knows how many others who just didnt actively play in store. Situations like this were common. Amazon and secret lairs change this. Most of us already had to resort to a place like Starcitygames or ebay but now we have a better option with more perks because of what surrounds amazon. It's a huge improvement for a significant amount of the player base. Rudy keeps talking about this like its crippling to LGS stores without explaining why. These stores carry a half dozen card games...most sell other things like anime figures, comics, board games, etc. How is this shift a big deal? You're acting like Walmart will fail if they can no longer sell their top brand of bed pillows. No...they'll simply have to adjust. Something stores do pretty regularly to keep up with the times. For fun: How many people would hate Rudy if he dropped mtg entirely? Not many. Have you seen the support and positivity your videos get on your thoughts and opinions over the years? Do you really not understand that people follow YOU and not just mtg? You'd probably lose far fewer than what you think.

Took Hasbro long enough to release that the internet made wall-to-wall stores redundant. I expect that there will also be a direct to customer singles sale where you can make your own bundle of cards for a price and have them delivered to you. Pick your own cards; 5 card for a set price.

I love Amazon carrying MtG product . I have never gotten better deals. I bought Time Spiral Remastered at $150 a box and Commander Legends collectors box at $210 a box. I bought multiple of each. I preorder and Amazon always honors the lowest price during the preorder window even if I preordered at a higher price and my orders never get canceled. Plus I get Amazon cash back for orders with my prime card and get free shipping. I have paid lower than most of Rudy’s Patreon prices. Plus I get my orders in 24 hours. As a customer I can’t love Amazon more , best move ever.

My kitchen table isn't at an lgs or at Amazon, and that's the only play I do. But Amazon has $100 jumpstart, $100 commander legends, $210 mh2 booster boxes. I'm not paying the 20% price hike to buy things at someone's tournament location.

If every wealthy individual shared just a fraction of Rudy's values, the world would be pretty dope. Curious to see what ultimately happens to paper Magic if/when the final nail is put in the coffin of LGSs. Kitchen table play is obviously a thing, but so is organized tournament play; something would have to fill in that void. Hasbro is making money hand over fist running two online clients, so I'd imagine that they're confident that will only become more lucrative over time. However, completely black balling the paper scene by tanking the LGS model seems like it would all but guarantee the death of paper Magic if the only organized play is run by individuals. Unfortunately, I could see WotC cutting a deal with McDonalds or some other garbage corporate entity with locations in all 50 states to run officially sanctioned FNMs and such. Sucks, man.
