That's really consistent with older SNL bits. These days, the actors look directly at the cards, and rarely look at each other. It's kind of weird.

In the summer of 1982 I worked briefly at a McDonald's. One day, we had a "Ronald" visit the store to put on some kind of show for kids. Everyone on the crew was told not to talk to the Ronald guy. I saw him slumped in an office chair in the back of the store, with those giant shoes on his feet. No make-up or wig, just the costume and giant shoes. I didn't say a word to him. He looked unhappy and unhealthy -- white guy in his 30s or 40s. I wanted to ask him, "how difficult is it to walk around in those shoes?" He looked like he would've rather been anywhere else.

No joke. Your heroes are human. In long years, have met some back stage. Some nice neutrals, and some very childish. Never impressed me as much as their music. That's ok.

One of the first popular SNL characters was named Uncle Roy (Buck Henry), who would babysit two little girls (Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner) and take pictures of them lifting their skirts up, posing it as a game, or encourage them to play Buried Treasure, where they would rummage in his pants pockets for candy. In the final Uncle Roy sketch, the mother comes home and thanks Roy for being so helpful, adding, "You're one in a million" and Henry looks at the camera and says, "Oh, there's more of me out there than you might think."
