The colonial marines and the alien miniatures look quite good. Would have to get same scale civilians elsewhere though to pass as ship crew/colonists etc. Defenetely looking tinto this.

Truth. Thats one of the things the "Alien RPG"tries to discourage, having you play as YOURSELF directing the character, not the character themselves. It makes it so it allows you to make mistakes(and so if you betray or turn on each other because of your agenda''s crossing wires, it doesn't make you be a dick by saying "It's what my character would do!"

A truly hysterical game session (I have multiple bookmarks for different funny moments so I can go rewatch them), and I'm thankful that through this I learned of Alien: The Roleplaying Game. With that said, I could hardly stand AJ in this. Honestly, I love just about everybody in his entourage (especially OJ, who might as well be OG, but Ray and Alex are cool) except AJ himself because like somebody else said, he was arguing with Alex rather frequently, and he was just generally kind of... I wouldn't say annoying but not particularly enjoyable (he did have some funny moments though, but for every funny thing he said or did, OJ did three). That and it was both cringe-worthy and hilarious that he depicts himself as this know-it-all megafan of Alien, and yet his "knowledge" is basically just the plots and cast of Alien and Aliens - everything else, to him, either doesn't exist or he hasn't seen it; that's the vibe I get both from this and when he was livestreaming Alien: Isolation (and thinking that A:I was retconning Alien because you play as Ellen Ripley's DAUGHTER and not Ripley herself - hell, the plot even opens with essentially "Amanda, we've found out what happened to your mother Ellen"). He thinks that Prometheus and Covenant happened AFTER Alien and Aliens (presumably because they came out later; by that logic, the Star Wars prequels happened AFTER the original trilogy, and the sequels happened after the prequels) even though those have been constantly and specifically labeled as prequels, among other moments of cluelessness that made my head ache and teeth itch. Still, very funny session, and I can't wait to see this lot play the full game when it drops in December.

Dude AJ in a RPG you shouldn't argue with the GM so much. When the crew went crazy it's a surprise round you'd have no idea they are doing that. When the marine pulled the shotgun you never checked if it was maybe sawed off and strapped to his thigh or some other future space reason concealed. Also when you "attempt" to shoot him in the head it's not like he's just standing still waiting for you to shoot him. This isn't final fantasy. So with 1 dmg you probably did a grazing shot otherwise this was fun to watch and fun system. Nice job Alex. P.s AJ it's not polite to backseat GM/Play let the other players and GM do what they are going to

The description is wrong. this is not an Alien Based Board Game - This is an Alien Tabletop Roleplaying Game. Also, I think AngryJoe needs to read the rules cuz there's a clearcut statement that you should not play the character how YOU'D do things, because your character is a person onto themselves - Not an avatar for you to do whatever you want. You need to think 'how would this character, that is a greedy ship captain that deep down cares for his crew, react in this situation'. You should NEVER EVER go 'Oh I've seen the movie, we are totally NOT gonna board that creepy spaceship cuz there's totally an alien onboard'..... That's meta gaming, it's making use of player knowledge that the characters should not have. It's like having a zombie movie where everyone knows to aim for the head cuz they are zombies and that is how you kill a zombie permanently.

Hindsight being 20x20 of course, but if it's someone's first time doing a tabletop RPG, the DM or Game Mother in this case, should have sat him down and told him what a TT RPG was all about. First explain the mechanics of the game before you start, give examples of combat, go through situations which will give stress dice, even if Joe will metagame the shit out of it and go - "Ohhhh! Someone's gonna be an android! I don't trust none of you fuckers! Android bitches!" Explain how you have a Roll, you're pretending, rather than just playing yourself. If Joe had sat down and made his own character, which was just himself, fine. But these characters were premade, which means they already had their own framework of personality, and you can put your own spin on such a character, but you need to remain within the framework. Now, it's possible that Alex already did that, and AJ went "LUL CAMERA ON WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FUK YER RULES AND EXPLANATION!" Which I think is very possible, actually. And also, Joe, yes, stop metagaming you turnip. Addendum - it's also possible that Alex wanted to do all of this with Joe, and Joe went - "Nah. It'll be funnier for me to be a metagaming fool on camera. I know my audience, they wantz the LULZ!"

Love the session, hate the system. How does the DM use situational modifiers? On a D20 system, if say...Joe is holding a shotgun to someone's face and he fires there should be a +15 modifier to Joe's roll. With this D6 system can the DM add anything to a roll that doesn't get at least one 6 die? How do you account for task that should be easy to succeed at?

I got my preorder the other day and it says easier the difficulty, the more additional dice you can get to roll a success. The more difficult, the mother can subtract the amount of total dice you role. The mother can also just take the logistical approach and just say “you fire your weapon killing them man” and the dice role associated with the scenario is how it will effect the character (for example rolling a 1 can result in you losing your last round, failing a stress role can cause your character to go insane and have PTSD, if your character has never killed a person ever and is a kid can gain stress, etc.)

There’s a section in the book that if it is something specifically easy or hard to add or subtract dice the rules just specify not to roll unless it is a tense moment and there is something to lose due to stress dice and so forth having a chance to get out of hand too quickly

I have the RPG PDF. Basically, you roll a certain amount of dice(D6) depending on the type of gun you use and the distance can up the amount of dice you roll. You also roll as many stress die as you have(you get them for stressful situations, like encountering never before seen aliens, taking damage, going full auto with your gun, etc; If you get a six/hit on any of the attack dice you roll, you deal the weapons damage(more if you get more sixes)and they give a list of effects you can put on the enemy. You can also push a roll(add more D6's)by taking a stress and rerolling. However, it means you reroll everything, meaning you could up taking the worse roll. However, if you get any stress dice 1's(or "Facehugger"on the special dice), you can end up doing stuff like acting irrationally, dropping your gun, freaking out(Hudson)and more.

It's not a totally new game engine. It's almost the same as Mutant Year Zero. You roll one die per value. If you have 3 strength you roll three dices. 6's means success, no 6's means fail and 1's mean you fail and also recieve dmg. Advantage is adding dices, disadvantage is removing dices.

25:20 Joe's videos are great but he really needs to go back and edit his older ones. This video is one of them. His statement about a clip is completely wrong, including the insult made towards the developers. A clip is used for stacking rounds and are then placed inside a magazine. Most magazine automatically have clips inside them as a default. However, older weapons have the clip separate, or the clip can be removed from the magazine, like the M16 rifle. Joe is an enjoyable streamer but never take what he says to heart. Do the research yourself. Unless it's gaming or proficiencies he's well versed from his past, half the things Joe claims to know are wrong anyway.

Some things in the system makes me want to scream. Like how the fuck do you loose a shotgun through a grate. I've never seen any grates that big on a floor. It's bullshit. And why would the company ever sacrifice a multi million dollar asset like a ship for bullshit purposes. It's just bad writing that they'd force a crew on a 70 year old ship vs an operational one. The whole blow up their ship is just fucking lazy scenario design.
