@theresak202412 күн бұрын
Any spotlight lingering on Lebron's stats for too long is detrimental to his 'GOAT Campaign', the flicker of a candle flame is enough to burn that entire fabrication to the ground! As for that collaborative effort by Klutch Sports & Tom Haberstroh to discredit MJ's DPOY award, that was nothing short of deplorable and quickly debunked by several reputable KZbin channels. Jonny Arnett's rebuttal video was particularly interesting. He analysed 10 home games from Jordan's DPOY season, alongside the actual game footage, including the 6 games referenced in Haberstroh's article. Arnett made a CRUCIAL discovery during his breakdown...over the course of those 10 games, he counted 15 occasions where Jordan got his hand on the opponent's ball, causing a deflection. Using today's rules, Jonny labeled these deflections as 15 blocks but noted that the Statistician did NOT credit these 15 blocks to MJ's official block count. So his blocks were essentially UNDER credited in those 10 games, however, his steals appeared to have been over credited, by a very similar number... It's glaringly obvious to any objective eye what happened here! There was no 'gifting' of steals, the Stat-keeper clearly interpreted those 15 blocks as STEALS and credited them to Jordan's official steal count...it's the only logical explanation for his block count being under credited! Ask yourself this question...if that Stat-keeper was intent on purposely inflating MJ's defensive stats, why would he UNDER credit his blocks? If his goal truly was to 'gift' defensive stats, he UNDOUBTEDLY would have credited every single one of those 15 blocks to Jordan's block count...but he didn't! Shockingly though, despite having made this significant discovery, Jonny STILL concludes at the end of the video that MJ's steals were intentionally inflated! Such a conclusion simply does not reconcile with the obvious surplus/deficit correlation that he discovered between the blocks and steals! Logic dictates that Statistician credited those 15 blocks to MJ's steal count and that is evidenced by Jordan's block count being UNDER credited by an almost identical number! The question is, was the Stat-keeper correct in labeling those blocks as steals or should they have been credited as blocks, as Jonny suggested? In order to accurately answer that question, more research needs to be conducted into the rules of that Era to determine exactly how steals and blocks were consistently interpreted and officiated at that time. I recently watched an old 1992 Bulls regular season game and noticed that MJ got his hand on the opponent's ball on 2 separate occasions, deflecting the ball towards two of his teammates, with the commentator announcing "another steal for MJ" on both occasions, indicating that steals were credited to the player causing the deflection...that's NOT consistent with how Jonny (or Haberstroh) analysed Jordan's steals in their analysis. Additionally, neither accounted for the fact that Stat-keepers in the 80's didn't have the luxury of accessing instant replay or multiple camera angles, so it's possible that an occasional block was misinterpreted as a steal. Finally, it's important to note that even if Jonny is correct, and his research into the rules of that Era determines that those 15 deflections should have been labeled as blocks and not steals, that would amount to stat misplacement, NOT stat inflation. There's a very important distinction there. In such case, MJ's official steal count for those 10 games would indeed need to be reduced by 15, however, his official block count would then need to be INCREASED by 15! So no matter which way you slice it, whether those 15 deflections are placed in the steals column or in the blocks column, it wouldn't change Jordan's overall defensive stats in those 10 games because you would essentially be subtracting 15 from one defensive count and adding 15 to another defensive count, which of course would have ZERO impact on the validity of MJ's DPOY award. The fact is, when you combine the total number of blocks and steals into one single figure, that figure almost perfectly matches the official box score, ergo ZERO evidence of stat inflation. Countless viewers echoed all of the above observations down in the comment section of Jonny's video months ago and in his defense he did reply to some of these comments, acknowledging the flaws in his original analysis of the steals, promising to release a follow-up video. Interestingly though, no such follow-up video has been released to date.

Brook Lopez has led the NBA in Contested shots the last 2 seasons in a row. He contested over 22 FGA's per game for 2 years straight and because he's always trying to contest the shot he rarely gets rewarded with a rebound. Just like we saw in your first clip of AD going for the block causing the offensive player to miss but Lebron gets rewarded with the rebound. When I see Pin Headed NBA talking heads complain about how terrible a rebounder Brook is I just shake my head. Brook might be the least selfish player in the NBA since he would rather attempt to divert a shot or box out another big to allow Giannis or Bobby Portis to rack up rebounds. Ben Simmons is less selfish but this is only because he's terrified of touching the basketball.

Most people don't actually watch LeBron play; they simply monitor the stats.
@arizona_anime_fan12 күн бұрын
not only did haberstroh cherry pick games that were hard to find, he also cherry picked games where the scoring looked weird on the surface. but his whole case was wrong because he failed to learn how the NBA used to score things. the issue with jordan's stats were the official scorekeepers didn't have access to replay unti the early 90s to double check. so scorekeeping had some "unique" methods to credit things which haberstroh either didn't know or didn't care to explain. basically on an airball, the scorekeeper would either reward a block, steal or rebound depending on his judgement of what was most likely to be the cause. so the ball goes up, misses the rim, and since the scorekeeper didn't have access to replay he'd make a judgement call on what happened. if the was a defender in the shooters face, 9 times out of 10 he'd get credit for a block. if there was no defender who could have altered the shot, they usually credited it with a steal, basically claiming it wasn't a shot attempt, but an errant pass attempt, especially if there was another offensive player somewhere near to the rim. the only time they'd call it a missed shot is if there was no credible defender to give a block to, and no one under the rim they could claim it was a bad pass, then they'd give the rebound on the airball and chalk it up to a missed shot. because thats how it USED to be scored, now days when we can do replay there were some weird jordan blocks or steals on some strange playes, and they looked like favoritism by the scorekeeper. yet if you apply the above standard you'll see the scorekeeper's crediting of steals and blocks is pretty much spot on with how they score it for every other player on the court. and thats the important part. this type of scorekeeping was standard in the nba for nearly 30 years at that point. there wasn't a different standard for jordan and say larry bird, they both would get credit for steals/blocks/rebounds the same way. was there room for interpretation in that scoring method, certainly.

@@theresak2024 Jonny Arnett failed in his video in the same way Haberstroh did. they both failed to realize how scorekeeping was done in the 50s-80s before the scorekeeper had access to replay. as i explained above, the problem in the jordan steal/block number is in how the scorekeepers scored airballs. without replay the scorekeepers were forced to make judgement calls. if there was a defender who could plausibly get a hand on the ball, an airball would be scored a block. if there was no defender who could alter the path of the ball, and an offensive player under the rim, they would often call an airball a pass attempt. and if a defender came down with the airball they'd credit them with a steal. finally if there is no one to pass to, and no one in their face, an airball will be scored an airball, and whomever gets it will get a rebound. if you watch those games and score them like this, the "variances" in the scorecard basically vanish. What should we expect the game as currently being played is perfect for stat-padding. Floor spacing is insane. Bigs out away from the hoop. No defense. The difference is when a player does show max effort you see 50 pt triple dubs (See Jokic).
@zarathustrasserpent185012 күн бұрын
I mean, you got to give a guy at least one offensive rebound, otherwise the triple double would look suspicious. So they looked for the play where he was closest to the Hawks basket in a rebounding situation, and marked it as a rebound.

Not sure why my comments aren't showing, but here it is for a 3rd time - Hey @ AOH - the NBA just put up the wrong video clip for rebound #3. If you review the boxscore, they are giving Lebron a block + a rebound at the 7:32 to 7:29 mark. The clip they're showing is from 7:39 when Lebron was a statue at the top of the key. I have the league pass and went back and reviewed, and yes it's there. I don't know why but they used a 7:39 time remaining in their video clip, but the clip is wrong. It pains me greatly to point this out to you, but like you I'm a man of honor.

I must admit, it's amusing to see the Jordan detractors scrambling in the comments, desperately trying to resurrect that Klutch Sports sponsored Jordan DPOY smear campaign from earlier this year. That collaborative effort between Klutch & Tom Haberstroh to discredit Jordan's DPOY award was truly embarrassing and has already been debunked by several reputable KZbinrs...Jonny Arnett's rebuttal video was particularly interesting. He analysed 10 home games from MJ's DPOY season, whilst showing the actual game footage, 6 of these games were referenced in Haberstroh's article. Arnett made a CRUCIAL discovery during his breakdown of the footage, something Haberstroh conveniently missed...over the course of those 10 games, he counted 15 occasions where Jordan got his hand on the opponent's ball, causing a deflection, Jonny assessed these deflections as 15 blocks but noted that the Statistician did NOT credit these blocks to MJ's official block count. BOTTOM LINE: In those 10 games, MJ's blocks were UNDER credited, however, his steals appeared to have been over credited, by a very similar number... It's glaringly obvious to any objective eye what happened here. There was no 'gifting' of steals, that Stat-keeper clearly assessed those 15 blocks as STEALS! It's the only logical explanation for Jordan's block count being under credited! Shockingly though, despite having made this crucial discovery, Jonny STILL concludes at the end of the video that MJ's steals had been inflated! Such a conclusion simply does not reconcile with the obvious surplus/deficit correlation that he had discovered between the blocks and steals! Logic dictates that Statistician credited those 15 blocks to MJ's steal count and that is evidenced by Jordan's block count being UNDER credited by an almost identical number! The question is, was the Stat-keeper correct in labeling those blocks as steals...should they have been credited as blocks, as Jonny suggested? To answer to that question, more research needs to be conducted into the rules of that Era to determine exactly how steals and blocks were consistently interpreted and officiated at that time. Something else neither accounted for is the fact that Stat-keepers in the 80's didn't have the luxury of accessing instant replay or multiple camera angles, it's also possible that an occasional block was misinterpreted as a steal. Finally, it's important to note that even if Jonny is correct, and his research into the rules of that Era determines that those 15 deflections should have been labeled as blocks and not steals, that would amount to stat misplacement, NOT stat inflation. There's a very important distinction there. In such case, MJ's official steal count for those 10 games would indeed need to be reduced by 15, however, his official block count would need to be INCREASED by 15! So no matter how you slice it, whether those 15 deflections are placed in the steals column or in the blocks column, it wouldn't change Jordan's overall defensive stats in those 10 games because you would essentially be subtracting 15 from one defensive count and adding 15 to another defensive count, which of course would have ZERO impact on the validity of MJ's DPOY award. The fact remains, when you combine the total number of blocks and steals that Jonny tracked into one single figure, that figure almost perfectly matches the official box score, ergo ZERO evidence of stat inflation. Countless viewers echoed my observations down in the comment section of Jonny's video months ago and he did reply to some of these comments, acknowledging the flaws in his original analysis of the steals, promising to release a follow-up video. Interestingly though, no such follow-up video has been released to date.

I was curious about that 3rd rebound in the 1st that you were going over. So when I checked the play by play it says it happened at 7m and 29s. When the clip shows 10s earlier on NBA. So I checked League Pass to see for myself. I believe they may have used the wrong clip entirely on the site. As the rebound I THINK they are counting happens after the block on the other end of the floor just after the miss by Knecht. When I check the clip for blocks, it's the first one that comes up. If that's the case, I don't know why they couldn't use the same clip for both? Unless that's a limitation on NBA's site. Which is why they went with the play right before. Which is still pretty dumb to me. Even the time stamp for the play is off as it happens at 7m 34s in the 1st. For as much as I know he stat pads, it does appear he did get that 3rd rebound.

His overall stats this year if you discount turnovers are actually in the spectacular range for a 40 year old player, but they are deceptive. It's gratifying to see commentators like you demonstrating the truth of your takes by looking at the actual plays.

Disagree. He was never a great two way player. He's been playing like this his entire career. The only time he played better defense was in Miami, but even then he wasn't the best defender on the team. Birdman, Bosh, Wade and honestly I can throw Norris Cole in there as the better defenders His defense was always overrated. Espn proped him up as a great defender because of his chase down blocks. Which he had like two of them per month. He wasn't close to leading the league in blocks. He wasn't even top 20 for his position at any point of his career.

Bron has NEVER been a great two way player. He's just been stat padding his entire career on cheap 'defensive' rebounds and a few chase down blocks per month. In reality, his entire game is fabricated. I'd argue he should have gotten only ONE All-NBA Defense team (the year he correctly lost to Marc Gasol for DPOY even though, that year, Wade was taking on all the tough assignments).
