If you’re facing the front of the boat, left & right will be different to when you’re facing the rear but port is always the same side no matter which way you’re facing

the diver is correct if you face to rear or aft of boat and you want to go right you will go to portside on boat

On ancient boats the port side was best side to load and unload and starboard came from star was a word for steer and bord is side because they steered with an oar on right side for right handers . Most important would be to keep the keel pointing the right way .

My oldies hah had a 44ft catamaran now for about 4 years… at times I still call it out as the drivers side and passenger side….not port and starboard….

Turn on your wifi hotspot and go into settings on depth sounder screen. Connect depth sounder to hotspot then do a software update on screen. You probably have a through hull transducer Sam. It will be inside hull in the bottom of boat somewhere near the middle maybe. Try the update, it usually fixes unstable depth reading.

Sam and Sue the gain setting on the chart plotter/sounder may need adjustment to different % this MAY account for your flashing depth reading. You can also set it for shallow water alarm too for your journey home. Your sounder may also need a software update. Enjoy your journey home.
