Three important points, two already made. Firstly, “Deayton speaks out”’ is obvious clickbait and as Deayton himself might have observed, in the context of this FactsVerse posting, ‘a factual inaccuracy’. Allegedly. Secondly, as others have mentioned, his single most visible and enduring acting rôle by far, that of disgruntled, sarky antagonist Patrick in One Foot in the Grave apparently didn’t come to FactsVerse’s attention. You can throw in his turn in the short-lived Pramface to boot. Thirdly, and controversially, at least some mention needs to be made of the part his co-hosts played in his sacking. For various obvious reasons, those closest to this room-filling elephant, are unwilling to discuss it in public. But I suspect there were issues beyond the readily visible ones, which I could only speculate about.

What hypocrisy on the part of the BBC. Jonathan Ross, who criticised Angus Deayton, was merely suspended for 12 weeks after making an obscene phone call with Russell Brand on his Radio 2 show to actor Andrew Sachs, which caused real distress. Deayton, by contrast, showed real class in not rising to the on air taunts and obvious schadenfreude of his fellow panellists Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, and in later interviews still would not criticise them. Good for him. The ovewhelming view, then and now, is that he was the best presenter of HIGNFY.

They actually discussed with Angus before the eps went out what they were going to do as they had to broach it, and after, he said to them he was quite impressed with how they treated it. In reality, the show couldn't go on if he stayed as he would undermine it's format, but yes, they could also be unforgiving too.

He was found with some professional girls. No innocent parties were involved and it was in his leisure time. Good luck to him if he enjoyed himself! The only problem was someone took pics and made them public, shame on them not Angus! Hislop is a nasty piece of work and Merton has had mental health problems and you'd think would be more sympathetic. The less said about them the better. The smuggest show on British tv, Have I I Got News For You is very rarely funny and lost its satirical edge many years ago. If I had to choose between Hislop, Merton and Deayton as a drinking buddy and friend, Angus would get top billing.
