It breaks my heart that this was written almost 25 yrs ago, and sounds as though it could have been written last month. The fact that it has only gotten worse instead of better is heart breaking.

Great performance! I hate that this song is still so, so relevant more than 20 years after its release, other than the part that implies it's only once a year like Christmas.

FunTennisASMR ... One line still has me totally stumped, and others are sketchy, but try this ... Open fire on the indoctrination, Open fire on mass incarceration, Open fire on the media, Manufacturing consent in the population, Open fire on the NRA, And all the lies that they told us along the way, Open fire on each weapons manufacturer, While he's giving head to some republican senator, Open fire on police playing soldiers of war, Open fire when the DEA mount attacks on your door, Open fire, open fire, we the pillar of god, (*this line?) Open fire on the CIA and the pentagon, Open fire on each fascist who threatens our democracy, Open fire on the racists who gave us this plutocracy, Open fire on poverty. The violence that never ends, Open fire on that Cheeto, and all of his friends.

@@mrjonthehat Thank you for this! I think it's "racists who favor plutocracy," but I agree "*this line" is still unclear.

More important than who chico is... A plutocracy or plutarchy is a society that is ruled or controlled by people of great wealth or income. The first known use of the term in English dates from 1631. Unlike systems such as democracy, capitalism, socialism or anarchism, plutocracy is not rooted in an established political philosophy. Thanks for this new term, well played ani!

it's a tenor guitar. Neko case plays them a lot too. They're usually tuned to match the top four strings of a guitar but of course this being Ani, it's anyone's guess what they're tuned to. :)

Consider the Constitution..the right to bear arms against enemies outside and within a tyrannical government. The conspiracy theories are now showing. Ty and blessed be. Women unite plz.

@sugarsore well the bad guys do have n the military has. You have an obligation as a US citizen to fight enemies both foreign and domestic. Right now your government is moving to communism Buy you gun dear friend You may have government come to seize it. Hide it well and ammo. You may she serious shit soon. Or follow them like a sheepie.

Weapons of voting, weapons of speaking out, weapons of the collective “us” moving into politics and the media, weapons of loving ourselves and our neighbors, weapons of intelligence and connection. Community participation, the weapon of paying attention. That’s the arsenal.

I used to listen to Ani all the time. But now I am wondering if Ani is inciting violence in and through this song? Most gun owners do not go around saying "Open fire on this and that". How do you guys like your boy Biden? How about a song against the pedophiles, Ani? No, no one ever talks about that. Without guns we might not have this beautiful country. Would you rather be under the British rule here? Have you moved to Canada yet? Why not?
