Welcome to the 3rd episode of RTL Talks! It is said that “happiness is enjoying the little things” - but what if the little things are no more… what we are referring to here is our sparrows… the little sweet birdie… we grew up with their chirping and chattering in our gardens… and it always amazed us how these house birds love us humans… they were so common in urban spaces, but what did we do… we shooed them away. Discover the journey of renowned Indian environmentalist, Mr Rakesh Khatri, that led him to become a champion for bird conservation and learn how his innovative bird nests are making a significant impact.
In 2008, he started an initiative to save the House Sparrow with 20 nests and today this is a pan-India movement with a total number crossing 7 lakh nests mark as on Sparrow Day, 20 March 2024. He has organized more than 7000 workshops, and over 14 lakh attendees have directly made nests with him.
Through his organization Eco-Roots Foundation, he has been driving many innovative projects that are supported by corporates and institutions. He is most committed to stimulating young minds towards conservation of environment. He is creating an army of eco warriors who are aware and sensitive towards the needs of the planet. He has won many national and international awards; and has been mentioned in the Limca Book of World Records twice - once in 2012 for doing theatres with 1.2 lac children across India in 12 languages in 24 cities and; and then again, in 2019 for conducting Water Theatre Workshops with over 2 lakhs girl children across the country.
In this episode, Rakesh Khatri shares how his passion for avian protection began and evolved into a nationwide movement, earning him the title of the "Nest Man of India."
