I've passed this video a couple of times in the last few years but never really listened to all of it, but now I did and I love the story about how you love ducks! I started keeping ducks (and geese) in 2020 after Covid and now they're everything to me and very influential in my drawings. I have Silver Appleyards, which are super pretty if you want to look them up :)

When I was a kid I spent a lot of time at a lake during family BBQ events. I was obsessed with the iridescent effect on the ducks who would waddle by, and you captured it beautifully with that blue-green shift. I used to sit down on the grass and the ducks would come right up to me to eat the corn on the cob. I'll never forget the feeling of that clumsy friendly duck hopping across my 8-year old lap, with no fear of me at all. Thanks for making me think about that memory today :)

I had a plush mallard as a kid that I totally loved as well! Your stories of you and James are so cute, and the connection you have with them is so sweet. Of course the drawing is lovely as always!

Thank you for this. I realized I was blending my pencils too much. Sometimes it's best to have a bit of graininess then let the eye finish the rest of it for you. Birds are some of my favorite animals to draw but I do them much better in ink. You're making my transition into color pencil much easier.

I LOVE ducks, too--I'll be getting a pet duck soon, actually, we already have a name planned for it! I could totally paint birds every AAC project; so many amazing choices! Really enjoyed your lovely duck artwork and your narration. :D

Every time you do birds it seems like you get to use the best colors! One of my earliest memories is being at a pond, feeding bread to a duck.... But it attacked me and nipped at my socks and I was scared as all get out! I like this anecdotal story of yours because they're fun and a nice contrast to the super sad serious ones we've also made. That's probably why I make so much silly nonsense in my AAC videos, because we tend to lean towards the sad side and this world needs just as much silly as sad. Definitely, James saying duck all the time is silly and adorable and brings good silliness here. =^.^=

Thank u verry much for d beautiful art work, mallard. You deserve all praise for d nice job. A few questions if u wish to reply: 1). Which paper do u use? UArt 400? Canson mi teintes plane? Bristol 500 series? 10 ply Bristol? Does not look like pastelmat.... 2) do u not use FabreCastell Pitt pastel pencils at all? Or Gioconda kohinoor pastel pencils? 3) which sharpener do u use? Is it very costly? How may I get that in India? Regards a lot,

I suppose all ur pencils are wax based or oil based, which r very difficult to erase or overlayer using any other color. Am I right? Are prismacolor pencils wax based or oil based? They r not pastel pencils, I believe.

Yes, all my pencils are either wax or oil based :) you can erase them if you’ve used a light pressure to layer them and they overlay each other exceptionally well. Prismacolors are wax based 😀
