Honestly, the only thing I wish they would really add would be the option to create multiple islands. If they did this, I would be so happy because I could be so much more creative and not have to completely restart one island over and over again. I don’t want to lose all of my progress on the island I have, I don’t want to waste money on another switch just for another animal crossing island either. I just want to enjoy the beginning all over again….sigh

Same! What if you were able to purchase another island? Nook will hook you up with another prospective piece of real estate. Then you (as the island representative) can appoint yourself or another user on the switch to become the rep. To visit the island, or set it as your current island, one would have to become that island’s rep, and transfer ownership. :) basically making the rep a normal villager on the old island and a rep on the new one. Bam! Multiple islands!

@@Ulvejenta which games are we talking about here? There were plenty of cheap work arounds in older ac games. You didnt have to buy another game cartridge or another console. A memory stick or memory card (gamecube) wasnt that expensive either compared to that if you needed the storage or a backup anyways for other stuff. Heck for the DS all I had to do was make another user and boom new town. The only game that made it a real pain was NH. Even pocket camp is easier!

I can confirm that as someone who has worked in games and TV, we almost always have multiple projects on our plate. It's very rare for one person or team to be focused only on a single project for an extended period of time. The amount of work for every project varies throught the year, so it just makes sense to have employees always working on multiple things at a time. So I doubt they stopped work on AC to transfer everyone over to Splatoon... realistically, they've probably been working on both all along (they were just in different phases of development)

From what I know, Nintendo had to employ specialists in animation/modelling to build the models for items ACNH - those people are scarce and in high demand and pretty expensive to build so many items... Which could mean that they might want to extract more money from fans in the way of another game - It is possible that they can use the assets from New Horizons to build a revamped New Leaf, it just seems odd they put that audio on the radio after the 2.0 update. However they would have to build more assets to attract enough attention from animal crossing fans and there's a difficulty in question when it comes to both games in compatibility, because as a fan myself, I would like some of the items from New Leaf unseen in NH on my NH island and vice versa. I personally would like to see a town designed from scratch (happy home designer style) that is functional with a variety of shops and activities, a froggy wetsuit to match the hat, windows that are now wall placed items, animals that are hungry and eat what you make them instead of just placing whatever food you give them somewhere, animals that hang out with you outside as well as indoors (it's not hard to parent animations and have them interact with nearby objects, also why do we have phones but never call anyone?)

There is no point for me to go everyday to him. Don’t get me wrong I loved the game and I was hyped sooooo much that I cried when I saw the first direct/trailer for new horizons and for every update but I don’t really play it anymore. And that is so sad. And there is almost no point for switch online for me. I don’t know. I hope more that they do more for this game than a new game and maybe for a new console. To me, the anger of ACNH players due to the lack of new content in the updates from the first half of 2021 (the ones we got from February to July) pushed the developers to release the 2.0 update in November of the same year, and to say "no more updates", because they wanted to stop being criticized by unsatisfied/frustrated players for their bad work. This makes me think about the Sims 4. I believe that game came out in 2017, and yet there are STILL updates consistently, some free and some paid! Just recently they released two new DLC's for it. There's just such a huge following and fans are willing to pay for each new DLC installment to keep playing a game that still holds up to today's standards as far as graphics. It's really fascinating to me, I'm not sure I've heard of any other game with that many DLC that continues to be so popular. Granted I think there may be more limitations to the Switch console as to how much you could really build onto one single game before it getting buggy. I dunno, but it's interesting to think about!

Sims 4 came out in 2014! It's almost 8 years old at this point. It's interesting, though, because it has a lot of similarities to ACNH (aside from the obvious genre similarity). Both games were, at launch, missing a lot of features from previous games: ACNH was missing Brewster, gyroids, swimming, Tortimer's island, etc. and TS4 was missing toddlers, pools, skin tone sliders, open worlds, etc. Obviously some of these differences were game design choices, but a lot of it felt like a step back from the previous games. Both games slowly added back missing features through free updates, but still have some features left out altogether. The Sims franchise is unique from AC in that expansion packs were always part of the game model - even The Sims 1 had 7 expansion packs and some things were basically guaranteed to be part of an expansion pack instead of the base game (e.g. pets, weather, occult Sims, etc.), whereas ACNH is the first Animal Crossing game to have an expansion pack (and second to have post-release updates, although New Leaf only had one big update). Still, both ACNH and TS4 have a lot of people criticizing that, even with all the added content, the core of the game is missing a lot of that *soul* that the previous installments had.

Bob's Gang, well think the reason in my mind is that maybe ACNH was just over competing with Pocket Camp. It just seems a lot of big publishers are highly incentivized to pursue mobile game style monetization schemes instead of going for a typical game product. I know this is a very cynical take on things but with how the AAA game industry is trying to go within the last few years, where we the players are no longer the focus customer, instead that would be investors, or shareholders and it seems lately most games are built to appease them not as a form of entertainment but profit, again looping back into adding in monetization schemes that entrap players into buying macrotransaction, RNG loot boxes more and more, and actual gameplay is left shallow or "grindy" for that purpose.. I am not saying all paid content is bad either, as I would too support new paid DLC for ACNH, but compared to it and Pocket Camp one can see which one they would prefer to support.

I think Nintendo wanting to shift the focus so players buy OTHER games is the most likely reason. I have around 4000 hours into ACNH at this point so I guess I should be ok with no more new content but the truth is I would gladly take ANYTHING new, because I love the game that much. What bothers me is when I compare franchises and realise the last Donkey Kong game came out in 2014 on the WiiU and then ported on the switch but the switch did not get its own DKC game. In that same time period, we've had over 20 pokemon games, which I personaly dont care for.

I quit playing for a LONG time because every time I logged into socials it was just me getting bombarded with "Why AC isn"t fun anymore" type videos. I think that even if people didn't feel that way personally, they walk away from that content thinking the game is lesser and therefor they also play less. That just leads to less people playing, and why would Nintendo bother with updating a game who's own audience cannibalized itself?

But I just wish they could give us the multiplayer mini games like we had in new leaf. it's is massively missed by many even if we have to pay for another dlc id definitely be like, nintendo take my money now. also we need a room opposite the roost in the museum its so odd not having something there maybe a storage room or an observatory for celeste.

I’m not sure if anyone saw, but there were reports about Nintendo earlier this year. Many articles discussed how Nintendo has been having issues with its employees and developers. The main reason was that many were lost or let go due to the pandemic. Idk… I remember watching a few videos on KZbin about it Nintendo being horrible to their employees that are overworked and burnt out along with staff shortages but not hiring new people despite the fact that they need to!

Wasnt this about the North America branch though? Because that doesn’t have much influence on the development, which is done in Japan.

@@LisaMichelle98 remember how in Japan, hierarchy depends on seniority, not necessarily what you know within the company. So work was not evenly distributed through the team, and specific individuals worked beyond their actual position. It’s not only in the gaming industry. The articles and videos I’ve seen were about Japan. I haven’t seen any about North America. Plus, the game was developed in Japan, so… North America wouldn’t even be that important to mention… because when I think of Nintendo, I think of Japan, not North America…

Outside of what could be considered "necessary updates" and not just fluff, I don't understand people sometimes. Do people _want_ Nintendo to become like EA? DLCs are mostly paid content for a reason; in order to profit back from developing that content... it just makes sense. I've heard that one of the games, I think Pocket Camp, has a boatload of DLC that just makes it not as fun, and it's like... that's basically a lose-lose situation. Sure people get to still play the game, it isn't a Gatcha game (Looking at you Mario Cart Gatcha game), but something like that can begin to bog down the experience. DLC _has_ to be a good chunk of an expansion pack to even be considered for release; sometimes DLC is too big though and ends up somewhere else, like with BoTW 2. In the end, the situation is just a bit untenable. Sure the constructive criticism may be nice, but sometimes all someone sees is the loud, toxic minority. Lucky for us, Nintendo is Nintendo and not some small indie devs; but humans are still human, nonetheless. As a first-time AC player and someone who's interested in game dev, I do think there are gaps in NH and quite a bit of design direction that took a turn from NL, from what it seems. Maybe next time they'll be able to focus their efforts on what people seem to want most out of it; the social interactions. But like many companies... yeah, Nintendo isn't some unshakable pillar. I have some theories on their type of game dev process, but this has gone long enough.

I'm still holding out hope for them to add the Splatoon and Legend of Zelda villagers and items.... though that hope is running thin now that Splatoon 3 has been released and we have heard nothing as much as a rumor for it... and yet Pocket Camp got Splatoon items... I know that its a different team working on it, but there really SHOULD be some common ground between them when New Leaf had them and they ARE using it for content under the Animal Crossing title for Pocket Camp. It just seems like a poor choice to me that they wouldn't add it to New Horizons even though they added the new villagers right away to Pocket Camp once 2.0 dropped in NH. This is where my frustration lies. I have completed everything outside of the 100 fish in a row that I am working on and finishing collecting all villager photos. I just would like something a little fresh even if it is a new seasonal item or 2 so I have something to look forward to while doing the content grind I don't enjoy. These are my opinions, I'm not saying one way or another that these things have to happen or not.

I'm kind of lucky. I got the game soon after it's release, and played it a lot during the beginning parts of the pandemic. But, then got so busy with work and school, and in the middle of all that, and out of nowhere, had the "brilliant" idea: "I'm going to try to Nuzlocke every main line Pokemon game" (well, one game from each generation in order. Got halfway through silver, got bored, so went back to Animal Crossing.) So, because of all that, I basically stopped playing ACNH for about a year. I didn't even make it to the KK slider concert before I stopped playing the first time. Now that I've graduated, and got a job with a set schedule, I have much more free time. I picked it up again. So, I'm still collecting, building, getting more DIYs, ect. I guess I'm lucky because I came back to it fresh after a year of not playing. So, I still have a lot to do which keeps me occupied (my current project is getting every hybrid flower. I already had quite a few, including blue roses, which took up most of my time when I was playing it the first time, but I decided to start from scratch. Because I love tormenting myself, I guess) So for now I'm good with what we have. it still makes me sad that we won't get any more updates. But between this, my Nuzlockes (I haven't given up on that. I just need breaks.) And the other games, I suppose there's plenty to keep me occupied until the next animal crossing installment. And I have to believe there will be...something in the future. ACNH was WAY too successful to drop the franchise altogether.

Even if they had to focus on splatoon over acnh, they could still use that as an opportunity to work on a few dlcs for ACNH as well (i mean, they did it with the mii costumes for smash, sooo..), like inkling hats or costumes or some splatoon-related items for decoration like they did for the Mario franchise. It would obviously work if some ac fans also like splatoon, and it would garantee Nintendo some dlc cash for their time working on those.

nintendo has never really done an animal crossing release the way they did ACNH. all the previous installments, you bought the game, and that was it, there were no updates at all. new leaf got the ONE update years after launch to incorporate the newly-developed amiibo system but that was it. i think ultimately the reason they stopped releasing updates is because there isn't anything to update. the game is complete, we now have all of the content planned for ACNH.

I know there's a lot of Splatoon/Mario Maker dev overlap (to the point you can datamine things from one game in the other), if there is significant overlap with Animal Crossing too it might be that SMM3 is in the works and the overlapping staff not working on Splatoon are prepping that? No way it's the main reason, or even just the majority one, but it might be a factor.

I feel like they aren’t adding anything because if they do it just turns into people screaming the next thing to add, personally I want the crossover villagers and items, but if they were to add that then people will shout for bulk crafting so let’s say that’s added, “furniture in water”, “carpets outside”, “More wall hanging items”(this one might be personal but a guitar should be able to go on walls) “more design slots” and the list goes they’d either need a 2.0 event possibly paid which adds a bunch of features at once to try add as many fixes as possible or updates endlessly they can’t really win because we will find something else to nitpick about that said if they were talking the time to gather all issues raised slowly implementing them and release it when the game starts dying to pull players back 2.0 style with a £20 paywall I wouldn’t mind but crossover stuff is such a no brainer I don’t know how that’s gone so long.

My problem is that they update Pocket Camp ALL THE TIME and it's decidedly.. not a long-term type game (for me, anyways). I got bored of it pretty damn fast. Despite my being against it, they could make even more bank off this game doing more DLCs. My family bought their Plus subscription (which is STUPID expensive for a subscription) so I could get Happy Home and, honestly, I'd feel less bad about them paying $70 or something if Nintendo made more DLCs for Animal Crossing and just making them Plus exclusives (like the N64 and Sega emulators, as stupid as that is). Literally the only thing that the Plus membership is being used for is for Animal Crossing. That's it. I mess with the emulators but AC is where it's all sunk. The possibilities are near endless with this game. A few personal things I'd like added would be even more custom design slots (because the community makes some dope designs, like, wow), more inclines and bridges (like, eight isn't enough, fam), maybe some more house design choices (the exterior stuff, you can go through all the combos that work together real fast), and terraformming that makes sense (WHY CAN'T I PUT MY TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF WITHOUT THE "GLITCH" OR PUT THEM CLOSER TO WATER??? And I'd actually kill for another cliff level, I wanna put a two-tier "building" on the top most cliff we have currently), and maybe some more urban items (along the lines of the storefronts, and for the love of god, I want a sign that isn't the wood one, it doesn't fit with a city theme). I know coding is hard, trust me, I KNOW, but they're worth billions in USD (they're in the trillions in Yen but.. Yen is worth much, MUCH less than the USD) and the Japanese are very meticulous and methodical people (not just them but y'all get my point). We know they can hire more people in the computer science and art professions, they have the resources and they can hire anyone from anywhere. But, for whatever reason, they decided to give New Horizons one last non-bug fix update then drop it like a sack of potatoes. Yet still update Pocket Camp like no tomorrow. I don't get it. But, we can only really dream, y'know? New Horizons is amazing as it is, I wanna make that plain, but so much more can be done.

While I don't know Nintendos reason, there are to many posibilitys with to many factors, the "critic" the game got would totaly be a reason why I would stop working on that game. Yeah, I'm petty like that xD If fans where always wanting more and more and more and more, no matter what I give them, and than even went so far as to calling me "racist" or "abelist" for not including X, Y and Z in my game, without considering that some of those ideas would limit the game extremly, I would drop the game. Let them deal with what they have and reap what they sew. I never saw so much stupid controversy over an animal crossing game than I saw with this one. It would suck any motivation to creat more content for it out of me, if I where the creator. No matter what they gave us, fans where never sadisfied. That just sucks.

It's really simple. People bought out Switches to the point where even Amazon was struggling to meet demands, and millions of copies of animal crossing with them, because everyone was in lockdown when it came. People had free time, they were sad and depressed, and they wanted something to occupy their time during lockdown. New Horizon's success is almost entirely due to global conditions upon its release; very likely 70% or more of those purchased copies have not been played in a year or more, and without a huge active player base, why would they go out of their way to START new development? I think the popularity of the game was much bigger than anticipated when it released, and because of that they just didn't have a ton of content in production, but then it fell off incredibly fast and Nintendo just decided to let it go.

Hey, Bob's Gang! Jared here. You want to hear why I think they stopped working on ACNH? I believe they stopped working on NH because the people at Animal Crossing team had little time to fullfill the needs of our fellow fans. Sure, it was a mistake asking Nintendo to release it alongside Doom: Eternal, but many miracles spawned after they both game out. (No, I'm not talking about Pooplers!) Anyways, the president of Nintendo wanted to make sure everything was ready, disregarding the other things that the update could've had, therefore, the Animal Crossing team had no choice, so they went and released it. On the bright side, it made NH loved more, especially with Brewster and Kapp'n involved. Sure, NH and HHP are both great, especially when together, I just hope the best for my fellow fans and the Animal Crossing team to put their differences aside and cooperate together. I know NH was my first AC game, and I just hope everything to go everyone's way. That's all I have to say. I hope you understand.

I think in terms of critique though it would be petty for nintendo to take it personally- I think it still can have an affect on the companies willingness to keep going forward with it. Companies are all about ratings and if a certain product is consistently getting negative reviews, harsh or not, they will most likely put the product to a stop than risk loosing more favour with their audience by trying to improve it more- even if the improvements could be positive ones. Who knows we may get the new leaf amiibo treatment somewhere down the line. But given the toxic place ac twitter could be, I wouldn’t blame nintendo for waiting a while ttyfgyguug
