*Finally someone talked about the god damn music.* -Also, I’m sad at how quickly you can befriend Sabel. Granted that in itself is not so bad, but once you get all her patterns all she has is repeated dialogue.

Right! I was so disappointed when she started repeating herself so quickly, she was the only NPC that you could actually talk to, and she gives you what? Like a week's worth of gameplay with her? Then it's the same as every other and I stopped talking to her completely.

yes! i used to send every villager a christmas/birthday letter, i'd send them jokes, i'd just give them things i thought they'd like. but i've only written maybe half a dozen letters in this one. for some reason, "You can't put a fish in a letter!" was hilarious to 6 year old me, and i miss that detail alone so much

YES! It was so charming. Showing up at the post office during the day or late at night was always such a cool part of the day. I LOVED that and I miss Pelly, Phyllis and Pete, too. Letters in this game are so much more cumbersome. It's an annoying, long menu with all these hoops to jump through to send ONE letter. You can't buy your own stationary and write things in batches anymore... Just another regressed feature in this game imo
@gazeros69

Very true. Animal Crossing was always about daily life, and yet more and more of that gets put into menus. What is there left to actually do in this game?
@CadDriftarus
@CadDriftarus Жыл бұрын
Yeah, weirdly looking through stationary and building a huge collection somehow feels less tedious than the NH approach, and that's probably because NH has very little love for letters. Like, I only EVER use it to send things to my real life friends, because there isn't a single animal that wants letters sent to them. It was special to have a new villager move in with old letters, or see the letters my villagers would send each other. That's how I found out Samson has an unrequited crush on O'Hare and would literally follow him to the ends of the earth. O'Hare kept showing me oddly romantic letters from Samson in New Leaf, and since then, each town I've had with O'Hare eventually had Samson too. Including New Horizons. You don't get stuff like that anymore.

i wish this game wasn’t so focused on aesthetic . like don’t get me wrong i love how beautiful the game is, but in the old games i didn’t feel the pressure to look pretty. with the villagers having less personality and just existing to be collected combined with the overwhelming number of clothes available daily, i feel like i focus on surface level things waaay more rather than relationships and bettering the town

Honestly, a lot of games are moving this direction. Especially with games as a service and cosmetics. Gameplay updates takes a back seat. Sims 4 has this issue as well. The game looks beautiful, but is extremely shallow.

It was a game built on the concept of relationships, NH hollows it out and destroys it. The original director of the gamecube original was inspired from the loneliness he experienced and how much he missed his friends and family when he moved into a new town.

I've been a fan of the franchise for 10 years and this is the only game where I've felt like it's a chore to talk to log in and talk to my villagers. My favourite villagers, Kiki, Deirdre, Diana, Kyle, it feels like I'm only talking to them if I see them, where in previous games I'd go out of my way to talk to them. The characters are so watered down it honestly feels like they're being held at gunpoint by Tom Nook and being forced into conversation.

Omfg yes biggest dissapointment, that and little to no interaction of the animal friends with items you place around your town, wouldn’t it be so cute to occasionally see 3 animal friends on the three tea cups ride or stuff like that we unlock, it’s like they only will sit on a seat or lay down on a towel or hammock you leave around your island, that can’t even come to your house...this makes me never want to buy a possible animal crossing game or anything animal crossing related ever again unless I saw amazing reviews on it for many months, I would wait even longer as long as it takes to see others make a proper evaluation because this is legit getting tedious, cool game but could be so much better, I got started on animal crossing pocket camp As I never had nintendo products when I was younger and it’s sad to hear how Nintendo seems to have pushed this game out too soon and if they are going to do updates on the game that should include things like the old games that the fans obviously crave and I would love to see in NH but who knows?

New Leaf felt like the series was taking a step forward... New Horizons felt like it was taking several steps back. So much content from the previous games missing including characters, holidays, equipment, meaningful dialogue(remember when animals could dislike you???), etc. I hope this trend of "Early Access" doesn't become a staple for Nintendo games like it is now for Animal Crossing and Pokemon.

I've played AC Games since i was six years old (started out with WW), really disliked NL (shocker, I know) and adored NH at first. The whole Mayor-Thing really annoyed me, especially because I wasn't a 'hardcore AC player' who spend hours upon hours making bells to pay off those pricey PWPs. I went back a couple of weeks and my town looked so boring - but I liked the stores, the Island, Tortimers Mini Games, Storage Rooms in the Museum (Still missing constellations of WW you were able to draw yourself with the help of Celeste), Cafe and so on. Therefore I was pleasently suprised and happy to be able to put normal funiture outside. But now it just feels diluted, unfinsihed and only the nice graphics try to make up for it. And that shouldn't be the only reason to like and enjoy a 60€ expensive game..

The villagers being so boring and hard to get rid of really turned me off. They're the heart of AC games. Doing your daily tasks is fine but chatting with the villagers and creating positive and negative relationships with them was so much more interesting. Now they're just copy paste clones with a dozen lines of identical dialogue. So sad. Also only being able to have one village just sucks. I really don't see why Nintendo is so damn stuck on that. Just ruins the fun for households with multiple players but only one switch.

Animal Crossing used to be a life simulator where you can see how the villagers in your town develop and evolve overtime. Now it's a Diorama Showcase disguised as a cute fun life simulator exerting too much power to the person who decided to launch the game on the console first cementing the game as less of an immersive title with animal NPCs being made into glorified cardboard cutouts that you collect to make your island look prettier(im not lying you literally need 10 villagers to get a 5 star rating), basic tasks being made infuriatingly tedious and slowly adding content from previous games that should've already been in the game at launch. Villagers dialogue system is kind of weird, but it works like this: You have to talk to them multiple times. The first time you talk to a villager, THEY WILL ALWAYS COMMENT ON SOMETHING YOU DID RECENTLY. Dug fossils? They'll mention it. Terra-formed? Fished? Whatever you were last doing, villagers will talk about that first. Talk to them again and they'll usually mention something going on on your island. (Visitor, event, etc) Talking to them again will bring up different conversation stuff, and even villager requests.

The villagers really need fixing. What’s the point of a community-based game if the people you live with are stale and shallow? I do agree with the arc consept, though it needs to be drawn out longer (unlike befriending Sable) Here’s what I’d also do to fix it: - First, two new types. Motherly and Fatherly. Are generally more responsible and stern than other types, care about the player and other villagers, though are different from Cranky and Snooty in that they’re less judgy/shallow. I do like the concept of having these kinds of villagers, especially when I’ve caught my Cranky villager giving a pep-talk to one of my lazy villagers, but it shouldn’t replace Cranky/Snooty completely. - Make Cranky/Snooty closer to their roots. They shouldn’t be unnecessarily mean, but they should have a shorter tempers than other villagers. If someone really doesn’t like them then they can remove them from the town, but for others like me who’d like some conflict it’d be nice. - More sub-personalities and make them distinct. You can see some of this already with lazy villagers. Ones more kid-like while the other’s more of a slob, but otherwise they’re basically the same. Make the different sub-personalities have different goals. Some examples: Peppy - one villager wants to be a pop star and is up to date on all the latest trends, another wants to have fun and throw parties and often invites others over, the third is like a motivational speaker and is always offering help/advice. Smug - One wants to be a famous actor/model and talks about photoshoots or movies, another wants to be an author and talks about his book, the third is a snob who likes luxury and high-end stuff. - More distinct friend groups. If one villager is friends with another, then they should actually be friends. Maybe they go on walks together, they visit each other, they talk about what they did with their friend the other day, if their friend is sick they’re the first to mention it, if their friend moves away they’ll talk about missing them or calling them later, etc. Right now, it feels like everyone tolerates everyone else. There are no real relationships. - Let villagers dislike each other. Let a snooty villager offend a normal villager, let a cranky villager dislike how pushy peppy villagers are, let clean-freak normal villagers dislike how gross lazy villagers are. Peace is boring, let there be a little bit of conflict between villagers. It’ll make the villagers actually feel real since irl not everyone gets along perfectly. Additionally, let fights/arguments last more than a minute. - Let villagers have bad days where they’re more angry/moody/sad. Then, let the player try and cheer them up with a present or by talking to them. Again, everyone’s too happy. They don’t feel real if they can’t feel anything other than ‘content.’ - Let villagers interact more with the world! What’s the point of building a bistro if I’m the only one that uses it? I made a park and literally none of my villagers go to it. I’ve got a bamboo bath area no one can use. They all just want to hover around the plaza and their homes. If you’re like me and have things clumped together (ie a residential district or a market area) then it makes the rest of the island feel lonely. Categorize items into things like ‘toys’ or ‘cooking’ and then designate which personalities are more likely to use them (ie childish lazy villagers will play with toys like sandboxes and springy ride toys. Meanwhile, normal villagers will cook a lot with things like the pizza oven or cooking campfire. While all villagers can do these things as well, it’ll be rare to see a cranky villager play with a toy.) That way items are interacted with, it reenforces personalities, when you walk into their homes they’re doing more than just walking around, and when you do catch a villager doing something they normally don’t it’s actually really cute. - LET VILLAGERS POST ON THE COMMUNITY BOARD! - LET ME INVITE VILLAGERS OVER TO MY HOUSE! - BRING BACK THE FLEA MARKETS!

To me this game has godawful dialog, almost all my favortie npcs, holidays, furniture, and features missing. Its music is so bad especially compared to other games. Not to mention it just doesn't feel like an Animal crossing game anymore. It feels like so much of that quirky charm is gone. I have over 100 hours into it and most of those hours were just pop in checks to see if my island self destructed or not before I play a game that actually holds my attention for more than 5 minutes because of the sheer lack of content. Why do all the items a follower grabs go to that box in town hall, a long-ish loading screen away, and not just to their inventory? Why can't the followers use the tool ring if they *can* use the emote ring? Furthermore, why are they the only ones who can emote without needing to use the ring? The L button is open on the leader's control scheme... At the end of the day, it's not THAT big of a deal, but it is really annoying just how last-minute it feels. :/

I was so disappointed when I finished my fossil collection in a couple of months in New Horizons, when it took me years (on and off) to do it in New Leaf. On that subject, the museum is a great microcosm of the problems with NH. Graphically and aesthetically it's a huge improvement -- it's beautiful, I love walking around in it, looking at everything I've caught and donated. But the fossil collection is tiny, and all of the meat of the museums in previous games, the in depth descriptions of every fossil, fish, and bug, are completely missing. It's beautiful, but ultimately very shallow. Just like the rest of the game. That being said, I'm still playing this game every single day. I see all of it's problems, I'm very frustrated with them, but due to the state of the world right now it's an easy happy place to step into where all my villagers are my friends and everything is nice. Animal Crossing has always been great escapism, and I wonder if NH would be as popular as it is if it hadn't dropped just as lockdown was really getting started.

The idea that anyone who isn't time traveling has entered into "end game" territory in an animal crossing game after 3 months is ridiculous, that's just not how they're supposed to work. And yet here we are. Genuinely feels like there's nothing left to do except remodeling my entire island again, and after flattening the whole thing I've not even started because the terraforming is so finicky and tedious that I just don't want to do it. Waiting for a specific color of furniture to randomly appear in one of 6 slots at the store is not gameplay. The villagers really are boring. I never talk to them because they just repeat themselves. I can't buy that the game was made to evolve over time considering how much referenced content that's been found data mining that isn't present in the game. @@OdinWannaBe lmao so I did some math because I have nothing better to do right now. At the moment I have ~290 hours in the game. Which sounds like a lot but it's been out roughly 100 days at this point and it's a game that incentivises daily play. Knowing that I have played every day, that puts me at a little less that 3 hours a day on average. Which again sounds like a lot, but that's just the average and doesn't factor in days where I'm spending much more time (such as the very early game, event days or where I'm just doing a lot of terraforming etc, I also tend to leave the console on while I'm doing other things) in reality my 'average' play session is closer to 30-40 minutes a day which has been steadily declining. Not that outrageous for an animal Crossing game imo. While my play time is probably more than a lot of people, in terms of the core playerbase of this game it's actually pretty modest and is in line with what you would expect from someone who is playing the game "as it's meant to be played." So I would not say that me being frustrated with this game is purely a product of the amount of time I've spent playing it. It might be a result of the fact that I'm the kind of person to write a reply like this though 😂

So true tho, I spent like 2 years on a NL town and even then I was still trying to improve my town, but now in this game it feels like I can't even do anything else because your island fills up with stuff so fast, I used to hate how expensive and how long it took to build public works projects last game, but looking back it made everything you built feel impactful, and it made it so that you would slowly build up your island to make it better and better, looking back I really prefer how slow paced the old games were, they just felt more like animal crossing

My villagers are SO boring, it’s unbelievable. I have Bob and Al, and they both talk about the bugs in their floor every single day. Bella and Audie talk about Maglevs in Love every time I find them crafting. They all comment on me digging up fossils every day. I miss when villagers had variety. In previous games, you could have villagers that were in the same personality group, but acted completely different. Now they’re all carbon copies of each other and are pretty much only there to look nice. I’ve literally only had villagers request things from me 5 times, and I got the game on launch day. If Nintendo wants to make this game better, add more dialogue. I just want my villagers to be interesting again. And I’m so glad this isn’t just a personal thing, I’m also not a huge fan of the music in New Horizons. I LOVE the soundtracks of all the previous AC games, they hold a very special place in my heart especially since I grew up with them. But literally the only memorable tracks from the New Horizons OST is the 12 PM music (my personal favorite), the 5 PM music, and the music that plays at Nook’s before it closes. Most of it’s just bland and forgettable.

I made a list of everything I like more about New Leaf about a month after this game out: * The dialogue is a lot better and stays fresh for longer * The house designs are a lot more unique * All the rooms in your house actually had a choice to be fully upgraded * Isabelle was a lot more useful * There are a lot more furniture sets it seems * Going to other towns was a lot faster and simpler * No mannequins in New Horizons * No dream suite or anything similar in New Horizons * Kicks has his own store * Timmy and Tommy’s store has a lot more upgrades * So many characters were removed in New Horizons. They could possibly come back with updates, but I think they should have all been there in the base game * The museum has a gift shop and display rooms you could decorate * Isabelle shows up in town hall and gives the player special items on certain mini holidays * The police station * Brewster’s coffee shop * Club LOL concerts * Fortune teller shop * A lot of public works projects like face cut out standees and bus stops seem to no longer be in New Horizons * There are a lot more kinds of street lamps and street clocks * You can remodel town hall and the train station * All the Holidays are in the base game * You can order special items from villager RVs * Custom design patterns remain pixel art when you use them * In Winter, the campsite tent turns into an igloo * Diving * Tortimer Island * Island tours * No badges from Phineas * I’m not 100% positive, but you can’t invite or have villagers over at your house in New Horizons * Ore’s such as ruby, amethyst, sapphire, and silver are in New Leaf and can be used to customize certain furniture * Perfect fruit * Fortune cookies and a lot of Nintendo items and clothes * Four leaf clovers * Villagers ask for catchphrases and nicknames to give you a lot more often * Gyroids were completely removed from New Horizons with the exception of Lloyd * The 3DS and WiiU were playable and you can even unlock special items from playing them * Villagers ask you to do more task or give your opinions * The banana, lemon, lychee, durian, persimmon, and mango all went missing in New Horizons * Golden tools (and all tools) can break * Ability to turn a full dinosaur skeleton into a small model * Villagers that leave your town can visit * Play hide and seek * Villagers can come to your house * You can put turnips in storage * Fertilizer * Town Ordinances * Amiibo Villagers * Museum Descriptions * Preview wallpaper and flooring * Better hourly music

This sums up my feelings on the game so well. There's a lot to do at first, sure, but once you've finished terraforming there's absolutely nothing left to do but menial tasks. The world feels so lifeless as well, there's no real charm or lasting character to it because everything is so cookie cutter and limited. It's not a bad game, but it's not amazing like the previous games. I got about 200 hours out of it. That sounds great, but the truth is that the game is designed in such a way that even basic tasks take a long time- heavily padding the runtime. Going through 30 seconds of copy paste dialogue to donate something to the museum is not gameplay. Spending 10 minutes crafting bait is not gameplay. The game just feels like an endless gameplay loop with no payoff beyond the final house upgrade and a 5 star island. The best way to earn large amounts of bells is to play the stalk market (aka doing nothing). The game doesn't know what it wants to be. Villagers range from having boring as hell canned dialogue, to being annoying as hell, to being casually passive aggressive when you talk to them more than a few times in a day. In the month I played, villagers really didn't have any memorable dialogue. I didn't have any memorable interactions. Overall this game feels like it hasn't really progressed since the gamecube era. The hardware is so much more powerful, but we still have huge limitations on what we can do and minimal QOL features.

The recent update for Pascal and mermaid furniture and gulliver's pirate items prove my point. People are time traveling and collecting these things and selling for exuberant prices. Look up nookazon. Or hell discord animal crossing groups and such. See how people are selling mermaid dresses for millions upon millions of bells. Or pirate crowns for 100+ nmt's and the likes. - Villagers in the older games with the "cranky" personality would actually verbally insult you sometimes and possibly even insult your clothes, to contrast with 'nice' villagers. In NH the 'cranky' villagers just act like old people and never insult you or your clothes. Many villagers also share stock phrases even if they have different Natures. - Isabelle gets to leave the mayor's office more often in NL because you can build things and then have commemoration events for them with her (in NH she spends 99% of the game ignored because she isn't in charge of any important game features and there are hardly any commemoration events) - Bugs would multiply in your house based on how long you were gone. In NH you can be gone a month and get maybe one single bug. You still can't use your net indoors to catch it either. - In Pocket Camp you can ride the teacup ride, but for whatever reason, in NH you can't. In New Horizons, it was very weird having to wait for almost a full in-game week to finally get a Museum and even longer for a town hall. In the old games you could come into someone's town after a week and already feel their influence on its landscape, see their house full of stuff, hear their town theme, etc. Meanwhile a week into your friend's NH playthrough is going to look identical to yours, because so much of it is just waiting for the day to reset so you can have more stuff to do again, not to mention the several-day wait to get buildings constructed

I've been a fan since WW (Wild World) and recently been backtracking to try Population Growing and maintaining City Folk and New Leaf and I gotta say the hourly music just doesn't provide the same impact the new leaf music does. Is it bad? No. But it definitely is missing that Animal Crossing Feel that previous installments have managed to provide and give a slow, atmospheric experience that games like NL, PG, CF and WW managed to nail so well. I gotta say the decline in OST started not in the mainline game but in Pocket Camp because its just the same boring loop every hour and the character chime is just the same loop of the games main theme fitted to that specific character but thats a whole different story for a whole different day.

The "they could add these features in later" response doesn't excuse anything. If a game from 7 years ago had these features at the start at a lower price, why would its latest iteration not on release? The answer no one wants to say is marketing and cutting costs. It's the same nonsense Splatoon did with "updating" the game with "free content" when the reality is that said content was planned from release to be in the game (maps, weapons, music, splatfests in general) it's just been chopped and drip-fed to create the illusion of constant updates, establishing a loyal customer base that cites it as free stuff all the while enticing potential customers of a fresh new update they can join in if they purchase the game. Same exact thing is happening here only now you can compound it all with the horrible internet service on switches compared to the free service on a 3DS and you've got a nightmare of a product in terms of quality and content.

@@francoperalta5986 It being free doesnt make it good practice by default. Major complaint about this method is paying 60 bucks for something not fully released and running out of content within a month, an unprecedented fact in a mainline animal crossing game. Put this in into context for New Leaf which only had a quality of life update years after release in the form of moving lots of furniture at once and the dailies system set up by HHA.

SamsPrivatePinballMachine To compare newer gen games to older games is a bit ridiculous though. Older gen games aren’t capable of updates, so usually what you have is what you get, hence why there are bugs in older gen games that go left unpatched (e.g.: Pokémon Yellow has bugs, glitches, and exploits that were never fixed because you cant patch a game from that console). I’m not excusing the updates with free content because I do think it’s a method to tease players into stretching out gameplay. All console games charge at the price of $60 though, and it’s been like that for over ten years regardless as to whether the price is “deserved” or not. It was only a matter of time before Nintendo did it. This problem isn’t really only Nintendo’s fault but rather the video game industry as a whole because it’s really the exploitation of knowing that they could always add content in updates (such is seen in Bethesda’s games like Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online). While there are games that exploit this concept there are examples where it’s beneficial (like League of Legends, Overwatch, etc.) because the game that was originally intended didn’t include what it does now, so it expands the gameplay. As for Animal Crossing New Horizons, while there is content I miss from older games, I’m not going to be mad over content that hasn’t been implemented yet, nor complain about a game’s price while questioning whether it was worth the cost when I have well over 400 hours of playtime.

You've touched on everything I've been complaining about for months now, are you secretly my clone? But Nintendo ain't "updating" the game because the content isn't ready, it's solely a PR move to keep people coming back to the game, but it's an awful way to do it, the base game is so dry of content that you'll get bored in a month, or two as you've already done everything, and the updates are so small that you can experience them within a few days.. So it's just a constant cycle of cut content being released so slowly that you're bored as soon as the update hits. Villagers are mannequins in this game, so extremely boring, the repetition in dialouge feels way way worse than even NL, and I think that's simply just because there's less player inpout in conversations, in NH most of the times the villagers will just talk, and then act like you just said something despite you not even inputting anything, whereas in NL you constantly had to engage in the conversations, with the slider, a phrase, or even you typing something to them, the last thing is still in NH but it's barely used. It doesn't matter what Nintendo does, the sour taste is already there, the first impression is ruined, there's awful decisions about the core game that's already locked in, any released content will be consumed within a day. And none of it makes sense, Animal Crossing is a game where all the content always were earned over time, this garbage fire however you're just mouth fed content, it doesn't feel rewarding to get new stuff, because you haven't earned it, Nintendo just decided to plop it in for you. And almost worst of all is the music, the same meat grinder of a song, slightly remixed at every hour of the day, I can't even play with sound on, because the music makes me want to rip my ears off...

I'm pretty sure most of the stuff that gets released every month was ready at least 6 months before the game came out. They aren't drip feeding content because they are making it on the fly. It looks kinda lame but it‘s really fun! On top of that letter writing in that one is also easential and really deep. You have to watch your spelling and not write too much to get your villiagers to not write back a diss. You really have to earn your status and your friendship there because it‘s not as easy. There‘s a whole lot less content to do but it‘s still really fun! If you‘re not into that then I also recommend Wild world for the DS. It‘s the sond game and is like a extended better version of the first one wirh just worse visuals but you‘ll get used to those. No public works projects or outdoor decorating in both but that only makes you focus more on your villiagers, chores and your collecting. Villiagers will be your daily source of items because nook‘ll only sell 2 items a day and one of them is clothing (in wild world you get clothing from the hedgehogs). Your beginning dept is 19000 bells wich sounds really tiny compared to the other games but it‘s a lot more than you think. There‘s no easy way to grind. No tarantula island. If you want furniture and clothes ralk you your villiagers. If you want money sell fish and insects. Is it anything but summer? Red snappers are your only source of value now~ 3k a fish. Better go fish your heart out cause you‘ll have to earn money like a regular townie. In the old games you get lesser but your experience is so deep. So much work to befriend villiagers, mailing fossils to only getting them donated a day later, closet can only hold 3 pieces so get rid of what you don‘e really need. No shoes or socks not even hats in the gamecube but it makes dressing easier and less important. The gamecube version is such a charming game. It doesn‘t treat you like a toddler, it doesn‘t give you 100% control, it teaches you to think before making any decitions and it makes it satisfying to progress. Paying my first loan after getting the fishing rod on day 3 was amazing! It really makes these aspects special. If you haven‘t played it then go and test it out! If you‘re sick of new horizons, this one won‘t treat you as a god and will grind you down so you‘ll have a good time!

I definitely agree with these points, even as an Animal Crossing lover. I first played Wild World and then New Leaf. I was sad that snooty and cranky villagers were instantly friendly. Having to earn their friendship felt far more satisfying. I miss a lot of the NPC characters. I never completed a house before New Horizons. If I could have the amount of things to do from New Leaf with the villagers from Wild World and the graphics of New Horizons that would be awesome. The DIY is awesome but has gotten rid of Cyrus’s job and a lot of the different furniture series.

What an accurate way to describe this game. I haven't played it for months, and I didn't realize how barebones it truly was until I saw everything being added by the summer update. Even the terraforming is barely a feature. What's the point of being able to terraform if it takes you an hour to make a river?

I just have to say, I picked up my old new Leaf town just the other day, and since then I’ve been thinking “I just don’t like new horizons anymore” I know it’s a new game and that it’s main point is building an island from the ground up. But.... why couldn’t it have been released as New leaf + They removed so many things that I don’t see returning any time soon, even the moments of bad luck where you fall over aren’t in the game. Which means Katrina no longer has a place because luck simply doesn’t exist anymore. I’ve put many hours into new horizons. But it’s still lifeless in my eyes. In new leaf you could spend five minutes playing and be content. New horizons and you have to play longer and more often to even feel like you’ve done something substantial because it have that level of charm that makes it easy to feel fulfilled with only five minutes a day. I don’t know if it’s just me who feels like this, but new horizons is made to make you feel like you have to play for a long time every day to justify having brought it when other ac games never did.

Agreed. This game should have been so much more. Bought NH on release and somehow stiil keep playing (probably because I have nothing better to do). I want to enjoy this game, but feels like the game doesn't want to be liked. Tool durabiity is annoying, especially the shovel (for me). It would have been so much better if tools had a durability bar, or at least our character thinking "Oh, me shovel's a bit wonky". Villagers are very dissapointing. At one point I have 3 snooty villagers on my island and it was unbearable. They kept saying the same things over and over. Fossils, flowers, HHA -- it got irritating so quickly. The best part of New Leaf for me was talking to different villagers, seeing what they had to sat about honestly anything. Now, I talk to 3-4 villagers a day, mostly to those I haven't got a picture from. I wish NH would get a villager update, adding new lines and personalities. Imagine an old lady villager, or a shy nerd villager, or a cold on the outside, but sweet on the inside villager. As for random events, I'm kinda torn on this. I think maybe we should have more random visitors, but they appear less often. I have someone roaming the island/sitting on the town square practically every day. I like the idea of Leif trying to make his own competition. Maybe he could give hybrid seeds, when you win, or non-native fruit, or maybe bring back the perfect fruit from New Leaf. On the cut content. I really miss some of the characters. When I finally bulit the police station, Booker was my favourite part of the game. If he and Copper return in NH, I wish they could roam around the island, looking for suspicious individuals. Maybe you can give them orders to scold visiting players when they stomp on your flowers, for example (I know that the Best Friend thing exists, but IMO this would be better). I had an amazing time playing New Leaf. It's probably is one of my most favouritest games ever. New Horizons just doesn't deliver it for me, and looks like it doesn't for many more people. I wish Nintendo would listen to us and make New Horizons the best it could possibly be, but it feels like that we might not see what we want in the end.

@@danielj8085 villagers in the original animal crossing were the best. they were nice sure but they didnt mind throwing around a scathing comment every now and then. plus some of the villagers you got were downright dicks ever since new leaf nintendo sanitized the villagers to the point they say nothing but nice things to you and it just sucks NH is just carrying along the torch. I hate how every nintendo franchise that wasnt mario ended up losing something significant that made the game so interesting in a later entry/ sequel. Smash lost the fast paced gameplay after melee with brawl, mario kart lost most of the experimentation and ultra shortcuts after MK wii, animal crossing lost most of the charm and wit in exchange for happy happy happy, and Zelda just straight up stopped being about dungeons. also FZero and metroid are dead. its like nintendo just stops caring after 1-2 sequels and i really hope they stop this trend of removing stuff that made their previous games so amazing. Sequels are supposed to improve on what made the first game amazing, not remove it in exchange for dumbed down gameplay.

This is a weird situation for me... I agree with absolutely everything you've said, but I'm left just feeling angry. I don't know if I'm angry at you for bringing these points up, or angry at the game because it could be so much better. I really like this game. Truly. I recently started a 2nd Island after I quit originally at the start of May. I'm playing at an accelerated pace where I set my Switch back to March 20th and moving to the next day when I finish what I want to do. Unlocked terraforming and I'm in the middle of Bunny Day again so fishing is dead content at the moment, but I'm still enjoying myself because everything is fresh and there is stuff I want to accomplish. Terraforming and making everything look nice just gives me massive amount of dopamine and I love it. Thing is this is just gonna ware out again... Game is in dire need of more content

The amount of hours people have in this game shouldnt factor into the discussion it doesnt change any of these facts at all. I have almost 2000 hours in new leaf which is way more than I've ever had in any animal crossing except Maybe GC ? New horizons is the first game im even close to "completing" because theres just so little to do. Getting every fossil is laughably easy because gyroids dont exist and every star is always a fossil. In new leaf I spent my time playing mini games and exploring dream suites and decorating my home with the dozens of furniture options. In the original I didnt bother with my loan because just talking to villagers was so fun and they always had something interesting for me to do. In new horizons after the main "story" all I feel is left to do is terraform over and over and over. Move houses here move houses there terraform a fun river shape and tear it down until the next boring event. Crsfting is so tedious that I've gone days without tools and I barely fish because I didnt want to bother crafting a new rod. Swimming has been the most fun the game has been in months, I am glad I can go critter hunting but once you collect all the critters for the season and get all the pascal recipes people are going to get bored, and people who didnt even like swimming in new leaf and dont like it now? Well I guess they have to wait till next month and hopefully something new will be implemented instead of another repackaged update

As a long time fan of the AC franchise, I was very excited for NH from the day it was announced. But, after I purchased the game and played it, I realized everything that was mentioned in this video. The game is unfinished. It feels as though Nintendo just wanted to push something out, and it makes me so sad. I have nearly 300 hours put into the game so far, and I force myself to play everyday because I want to believe the game is good. I tell myself I'm an Animal Crossing fan so I have to play... I just feel heartbroken. Whenever people ask me what my favorite AC game was, I still say New Leaf, even though I'm about to pass up the amount of hours I played in New Leaf:/ It just made me happier:(

I was seeing the whole Early Access/Live Service model a few months ago. I am disheartened by even just the lack of exterior decor. My NH house looks nice yeah. But my NL house looked like a gingerbread house. I never got to where I could change its shape but the fact you could make it a castle, fortress, barn and such it is disappointing that the homes look so bland. There’s nothing to do with friends. I barely see Redd. The Cranny really needs an upgrade. We don’t even have perfect fruit. You get nothing for fully paying off your debt. Not even miles. The only thing I’m super happy with is how interactive the villagers are. But there is so many bits of repeated dialogue. They also only like talking to you like three times through the whole day before getting snippy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's disappointed. I've been a fan of the series since a couple months after ACGC's NA release in 2002 and it's been one of my favourite series' since then so of course I was super excited for NH. I don't dislike the game, but I feel like it could have been so much more plus some of the decisions they made don't make sense to me. I like the idea of crafting and terraforming, but I don't like how fast crafted tools break (I think golden tools shouldn't break at all) and I don't like that a lot of the staple furniture is gone (and gyroids too). I don't like the watering down of villagers' personalities and I wish they would have put asking for work back in. The lack of shop upgrades was really surprising to me since it was a huge part of the older games. And I wish they would have done more to play up the island theme. The mystery island thing is ok in theory but I wish the islands felt more special. Even if they put a daily limit or made it cost more I think it would be better if the islands each had something unique or some kind of minigame (like how NL had with island tours) Plus the fanbase seems to have become so insanely toxic since NH came out. It's sad to see
