Fascinating perspective to the topic, and very informative. Where I hike (Malaysia) the prime concerns are wild hogs - run! - and venomous fauna - snakes and scorpions - avoid or kill. At camp hogs are not really an issue. I go to great lengths to keep my shelter zipped up at all times to avoid the second category. Really enjoy your content, intelligent and insightful, thanks and keep it going.

About 20 years ago I was flyfishing next to a pretty loud stream on a hot day in the Smokies. I was startled by an elk cow that decided to sniff the back of my sweaty neck and lick the salt off of me. She stepped back when I turned my head, but it was at that point that I realized I had absolutely no plan for a friendly 600 lb elk.

Moose totally chase people. Of course they're not predators, but they will follow for a ridiculous distance sometimes. Keep running! (Witness from Fairbanks, Alaska.) Otherwise, great video. Oh, I also once saw a beaver charge a small dog that was just a little in front of its owner (Prince Rupert). And we were attacked in Glacier NP MT last summer by a spruce grouse! He was relentless! The Farout comments echoed this experience - beware the grouse! Owls and Goshawks sometimes attack too. It's a wilderness out there!

If bison calves are present, I’d increase your distance to 50 yards.
