I think you’re supposed to remove the pole basket so it doesn’t contact the DCF fabric.

I first fell in love with the floorless design when i saw the Tarptent Preamble. This tent has gone smaller and lighter. For ease of getting in and out this tent is the obvious winner. But i love front and rear wall mesh for added ventilation but full bug protection still.

This is interesting and good information. For me, generally I get blisters on my heel if I get them at all. I haven't really had issues with my toes. Great video. Cheers!

I've generally have only had problems with my heels. Thin liners help a lot, and 2-inch wide Leukoplast applied to any hotspots have fixed the rest.

My Dipole 1 tent without the apex guylines is really flimsy. So much I would say they are required. There’s just not enough offset between the trekking poles and edges of the tent to provide much outward tension. Likewise, the supplied cordage on the head and foot ends is so short it does not produce much tension lengthwise. I replaced them with my own cords which extended about twice as far from the corners, and the ends were very stable without needing an additional guyline from the top of the strut poles. Just a tip for Dipole owners.

Toe socks and antiperspirant, supplemented with breathable footwear and occasional cold plunges in hot weather cured my blister problem.

Me too! I used to get blisters between my toes all the time. Not now that I use toe socks. I used to think they were only for use with those weird looking toe shoes 😅.

this is caused by toxic hazardous waste dumps. i am convinced. decades of improper disposal due to no other options and/or illegal or even legal dumps. these toxic wastes contribute a huge amount of materials that alter the endocrine system. hence why petrochemicals are used to make fertilizers. these industrial chemicals often have phosphorous or nitrates. testing done often does not test for other toxic chemicals that could be contributing to it. tests have even been done showing PFAS in the backcountry and while our gear definitely contributes, these chemicals are also in the backcountry due to military activity and also waste dumps. these chemicals are all highly reactive so have changed over time as they have mixed with other things in the environment. this is why it has gotten worse over time along with climate change. this issue will slowly become more and more evident as time goes on.

I wake up 3 times a night to pee.....when I do I check the inside of the tent and wipe with a sham wow ...which is amazing.......this keeps everything in excellent condition on even the worst nights.....also if its a situation that condensation is likely I put my pack liner over the foot of my quilt and Im good to go......Ive never had my gear more than slightly damp and no puddles for sure........I use the REI Flash Air 2 tent that people make fun of as junk but I love it.....I just purchased a new old stock Flash Air 1 for an even more ultra light kit and am excited to put it through the paces...I also defeat condensation first of all with campsite selection.....!!!! Thanks for all of the great videos and technical info.....!!! Love your gear reviews....they are the best...!!!

About 20 years ago I was flyfishing next to a pretty loud stream on a hot day in the Smokies. I was startled by an elk cow that decided to sniff the back of my sweaty neck and lick the salt off of me. She stepped back when I turned my head, but it was at that point that I realized I had absolutely no plan for a friendly 600 lb elk.

We heat our double wall 5s tents in Norway with gas, not pot. Heat quickly dissipates if you turn it off, but it works.
@ianteague26723 ай бұрын
It's not a mistake.. if you don't stay dry your skin loses heat over 20 times faster. It's not the absolute temp at the time anyway. Even a wicking fabric can't stop your body from cooling during exercise but it can speed up the drying process

" if you don't stay dry your skin loses heat over 20 times faster." Wicking causes the evaporation and cooling.

That’s interesting. I’ve never put a thermometer inside the mesh as well as in between the outer and inner but when I unzip the mesh, the air between inner and outer feels colder. I’m guessing you’ve put thermometers in all three areas. Outside the tent, in between the inner and outer and also inside the inner mesh all at the same time to prove the point?

Mine was able to not only survive, but thrive, in windspeeds of over 65 km an hour, albeit for a brief period of time. Gusts were strong enough to take down several trees at the campsite, some of which were over 13 to 14 inches in diameter.

Yes you do want wicking/cooling fabrics during cold/winter weather. You'd rather cool immediately when sweating and be dry quick when you stop hiking. I made the mistake of using a non-wicking garment during winter conditions. It stayed wet for a long time after I stopped hiking and I got cold/ That wouldn't have been the case if I used a wicking layer
