Honest opinion, not sure many will agree. In terms of adding violence and adding provoking scenes in the film. If Vanga and the creators would have done more work on the story, it would have been better. Character development is so weak! He had such a strong character of Bobby which we could have given more screen time and depth but Vanga chose to put scenes where he can show masculinity to provoke feminists!! Also, I felt so disconnected when the grandparents story was told it was rushed not detailed!! If the director’s intention would have been to create cinema and craft he would have put more efforts in story, character development, connecting dots. But he put more efforts in sequences and screenplay which provoke a segment of society. I have a problem with that, on the weak story line and disconnect from the plot

Bro!! I feel soo happy atleast some people like you are making sense here. it was soo clear that every thing (from the start) just jumped to the conclusion like, action sequence, sexual content, nudity. There was no heavy context or reason to support such big actions of the character. i personally felt if we keep aside these concepts like muscilanity, nudity. The film at the basic level didn't had a strong script/story.

Completely agree.with what u mentioned...simply on point..👍 Genuine points... Keeping aside violence,misogyny...the whole point of so much violence n the so called title "animal" isn't justified through the story...no chacter building of bobby & his family...detailed family rivalry story ..why generations together r back of their blood relations to kill.... Why actually ranvijay is what is he..more depth to father son emotions n story.most disappointing things viz..unnecsaary conversations n scenes between RK n rashmika at some points,tripti dhimri introduction in the 2nd half..,climax scene...especially the unwanted comedy dialogues,B prak song in the background as if 2 separated brothers r meeting after ages..😂 Post credit scene..highly inspired from Vikram movie.."Surya's character...." Overall it looked like an extended version of Arjun Reddy with some mass elements with a Bollywood star..

I don’t agree with the thoughts of Shubham and Rajesh. When you say thats its a movie based on a flawed character then treatment of the character matters. You said Hollywood movies made on flawed characters are celebrated but in Bollywood people question it. When you watch flawed character like in raging bull or taxi driver or American pyscho, see the treatment. The director did not justify or glorify their actions. They shown it like “bhai ye character aisa hi hai” Second point is shade of character. Ranbir kapoor has a only shade in 90% of the movie. Now coming to alpha male stuff. Their are alpha males written in bollywood. Duki banaa: gulaal Ranvijay singh: haasil Charlie in kaminey These characters were Alpha only thing they didn’t mention it explicitly!!

@TheSumitsoni

@@vishrutisingh talking specifically on gulaal, prithvi banaa and dilip were only two sane male characters. That whole movie is a sattire on male ego. Prithvi bana has shown as a mentally unstable guy in the beginning. You go more into the movie you find him quiet opposite. While on the other side Dilip was just a victim of all what’s happening around him. He started as an introverted guy and at the end technically becomes a murderer.
@vishrutisingh

@@TheSumitsoni I agree. And what was amazing about the movie was its treatment of these characters. Being a Rajput who grew up around this male ego that is especially amplified by the badge of Rajputana, the depiction hit the nail on the head! It doesn't inherently show masculinity as toxic, but rather what toxic ego does to said masculinity. Definitely gonna watch Gulaal again today.

your point makes sense but I will say it's a creative choice. You have a few examples but you left a few, for example - Godfather series, Breaking Bad, Peaky Blinders. They are also flawed characters but alpha males and they are created as such for masses, the alpha male stuff movies from Bollywood that you mentioned is not mass cinema, it wasn't for Pan India. Understand that's it's a creative choice if you only like movies that you have mentioned then it's my opinion that you are one dimensional, I'm not talking about one genre here.

Film does not delve deep into any character other than Ranbir's character. Bobby Deol is limited only to 10-15 min. His character is introduced and finished within last 40-45 minutes. There are no father-son or brother-sister or mother-son moments that may add some depth to any character. At some point , the second half bores to the death. It is like the film derails completely in the second half.

People who are one-dimensional seem to have missed the central message of the movie. The core ideology proposes that we are all animals pretending to be civilized-a concept imposed on us through social and political programming by society. (Check out Baradwaj Rangan review). The absence of “police” throughout the movie serves to create an anarchical atmosphere. There is no rule in art or moviemaking which says that “a bad character has to be punished by the end of the movie”.

Hollywood me jitne bhi DARK, anti-hero characters bante hai unhe ek 'neutral' lens se dikhaya jata hai. Joker, Wolf of Wall Street , Taxi Driver jaisi bohot films banti hai aur sabko pasand bhi aati hai. Dark characters dikhane me aur unki harkaton ko heroic lens se dikhane me bohot difference hota hai. Joker is the best example of a dark character. Anurag Kashyap bhi dark characters dikhata hai. Un filmo ki grammar hi alag hoti hai. Depiction or glorification me difference hota hai. Vanga apne movies me characters ki harkaton ko validate or justify karta hai. Plus wo jo beginning aur post credit me vile gestures hai wo bhi sabko samjh me aate hai aur isme koi pride Vali baat to hai nahi. Koi bhi insan jise basic cinema literacy hai (including filmmakers) vo is movie ki intention ko samajhte hai aur defend nahi karenge. Vanga is behaving like some teenager, 200 cr ki movie me critics ko chidhane ke liye unnecessary scenes dale hai aur story dalna bhool gaya. Kabir Singh atleast engaging to thi, ye to kahi bhi kuch bhi ho raha hai, bas shock value ke liye violence aur intimate scenes daal diye hai.

Agree with this point of view that Indian Audience is not evolved for the film like this because when i was watching this movie in theatres there were majority of the boys who were abusing and talking loudly about the infidelity scene in the movie which was making the female audience uncomfortable, now they will try to grasp some quality from Ranbir Character and obvisouly those qualities will not be good and im sure the one which they will adopt more ferosiously is the part of cheating. Tier 2 cities rural boys are not mature enough to just enjoy this cinema they are illiterate hoard of guys who just celebrate this toxicity and they all will think of themselves as Alpha. But i also watched this movie and it was a great experience to watch a movie that matches the level of any typical Hollywood movie.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I was watching this film in pune. A proper Tier-1 city. Even in my theatre, there were young college boys (probably 16 to 19 years of age). Clearly came from the tier 2 and tier 3 cities to study in pune (I could tell that by their accent in marathi and also one of them mentioned their childhood in Kolhapur) And they were the ones who were cheering and hooting on top of their lungs when Ranbir cheats or when Ranbir pulls a shotgun on rashmika or when he keeps tugging on her bra or when he asks tripti to lick his boots. Tier2 and Tier3 city boys are not illiterate, but the surrounding that they’ve grown up in is very different. An environment where these are not rare occurrences. So they dont see it as problematic. Im not trying to justify their behaviour, but just giving an insight as to why they hoot or cheer for some f*cked up scenes like those. I remember watching Kabir singh in an expensive Theatre in pune with a well off crowd. And no one cheered for even once after Shahid’s entry with him smoking and song playing “meri umar ke nau jawano”. Their cheer’s quickly turned into awkward silence when he threatens the girl with a knife to open her dress. That is how big of a difference is there between the actual Tier 1 city crowd and Tier 2 or 3 city crowd.

I generally enjoy listening to your discussions, akin to a conversation with brothers. However, in this instance, it appears that your admiration for Ranbir has overshadowed the movie's flaws. Given its A rating, it may still influence young and impressionable audiences on platforms like Netflix. Hindi movies depicting such violence, unlike their Western counterparts, can inadvertently endorse such behavior to a more easily influenced audience, especially children because the actors and the scenarios are more personal. Your insightful remarks on the Ramayan-based movie Adipurush showcase a commendable perspective from the younger generation. However, your acceptance of the dark behavior depicted in this movie is disheartening. Celebrating the father-son bond could have been portrayed differently without resorting to such violence, maintaining the essence with the same background music and actors. Venturing into excessive violence for the sake of freedom of expression may tap into the human mind's unrestrained potential, contrary to the values imparted by our ancestors. Our culture, rooted in morals and civility, discourages such extremes, as seen in practices like touching the feet of our elders. Let's avoid contributing to our country's issues or regressing to the movies of the 70s and 80s. Instead, let’s stay true to our culture that is celebrated everywhere.

I haven’t watched the movie but the hype made me check out the review. From what I heard, I don’t want people to glorify flawed characters. It’s understandable people are flawed but I’m worried that the men of this generation will start looking up to flawed characters and imitating them. Domestic violence and cheating on your wife is not okay. Don’t glorify it if the hero of the movie does it.

Every movie is open to dialogue and no one is asking people to adopt the characteristics of a problematic protagonist. The setup is very clear that Rannvijay is an anti-hero. He seeks validation from his father and can go to any extent for that. Who in right mind would like to adopt his characteristics? However, people like him exist. It's a story. Discuss the flaws. The problem is people equate an actor to a hero. Not every protagonist of a film has to be a hero. He/she can be flawed. They can be a villian and people need to stop seeking out heroes from cinema. Have your own morals and your own thought.

Before the 90s, villains used to be portrayed as despicable characters while doing despicable acts. The audience felt disgusted by them and felt vindicated when the hero finished them off. Now the trend is that the villain is the protagonist/hero so his styling is admirable, and his heinous acts are well choreographed with pulsating bgm. I guess this is an indicator of changing times. In Pushpa, the protagonist is a villain but we love his style and even cheer for his victories. There was a time when Karna in Mahabharat was only seen as a negative character but later became a hero and many were able to empathize with the tragedy of his life. What he did with Draupadi though, was evil. Similarly, Ravan was earlier portrayed as disgusting but in the latest movies he is well-styled. His acts though, are evil. We need to evaluate the reasons for this change in attitude towards evil characters. Why are they becoming increasingly worship-worthy? This is a good debate to have.

Don't get the part when the movie is clearly titled "animal" and not "human" why do people expect people in the movie to be behave and function within the "human morals" of what is right and wrong. The movie is set in a different universe where there is no law and order, no police, nothing. The characters can do what they please how they please and there will be no consequences whatsoever from the outside society. That is the premise where the movie is based, that's why it is a "movie". These things cannot happen in the real world. I don't understand why people have problems with animals killing other animals or behaving like animals. In "Animal" not just Ranbir Kapoor but every character is an animal.

So, the other day I watched a movie and let me describe it to you...... Storyline: The story is about a father and his son. The father is a rich and powerful person in his country running a successful empire. The son is not a part of his father's enterprise. The family is a typical patriarchal family with the Father being the head of it. What he says goes. The son is a rebel who does not always like the way his father operates and hence refuses to join him while still trying to seek his approval. The father gets shot by his rivals. This gives the son a chance to take the place of his father while going for the rivals lives. The women in the family don't have a voice of their own. They are beaten mercilessly in some cases and in some cases told to shut up. The mother is relegated to the kitchen. The sister is in an abusive relationship with her husband. The son's wife has absolutely no say in what her husband does. She isn't even allowed to leave him because he has a total control over her. The Hero (son) actually threatens his wife to not interfere in his business or else..... The Hero also sleeps with another woman who he simply takes her over like a typical alpha male. Towards the end of the movie the son kills off his rivals in brutal and bloody killings with multiple shots mangling the bodies of his rivals and leaving a bloody mess around. And all of this was glorified in the movie by showing the son as the ultimate victor in the end as he assumes the throne vacated by his father. Sounds familiar????? No???? The Movie's name was: The GodFather Directed by: Francis Ford Coppola Written by: Mario Puzo Patriarchal Family Head: Vito Corleone played by Marlon Brando Rebel bloodthirsty misogynist domestic violence alpha male son: Michael Corleone played by Al Pacino The movie has won several awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best supporting actor, amongst others. This movie is hailed as a classic. Disclaimer: You know why I am writing this.....a movie is a movie. It's not a Unicef Mission statement. Nor is it something that is going to change the world. If movies were supposed to change the world, after superhit movies like Ghayal and Ghatak there would have been no corruption in India......so enjoy a movie (or not) without being a snowflake.

What pathetic , it’s a movie. In our country where bilkis bano rapist are celebrated who gang raped her sister in law who just delivered a baby and she died or her new born baby was killed or bilkis bano’s 3 yr old daughter was killed smashing her head to the ground. See what’s going in both Israel or Gaza are kids being killed or saved ?? This is reality tomorrow if riots broke in any part of India ,will a pregnant women spared or killed open?? , exactly what happened in Gujarat riots. In Manipur mother and child were burnt alive in ambulance so no reaction there but all reaction to a frictional entertainment movie. The director portrait the raw human behaviour.

These type of movies are supposed to tackle other spectrum of human consciousness, it was supposed to shown in this movie whatever is shown, pregnant women do get killed in this world in the worst way possible so they show in this movie.

@@penacle7"wrong is always wrong" we can't defend it by giving examples of more pathetic examples of real society . Whatever has happened in real life with bilkis and others is no doubt a slur on society but these examples shouldn't be use to defend these pathetic things . 🕊️

Not every main character should be morally good and no-one is justifying that scene or other scenes are morally good but guys it's a movie and not everybody wants to watch the same hero saves heroine cliche over and over again and animal was already rated A , so what's the problem...... can't handle that sh*t then go and watch " hum saath saath hein " .

I just watched animal. My only question is a child of a business tycoon who has no formal training is fighting better than John Wick.. Hollywood me bhi aise bnti h bt atlest they show ki the lead was an ex marine/ex military. Bt ranbir goes from a university student to a killing machine. So I think ki if u leave your logic at home then this film is a perfect action thriller. Bt to be honest i like sambahadur way more.

I still can't believe that such an utterly ultra-misogynistic mediocre movie with an incoherent script makes so much money and generates so many discussions. In a way it's good -- this lays out the toxicity in Indian society (judging by which parts of the movie get the most hoots/applause in theaters) in the open for everyone to see. 🤷🖖 (Note to Vanga and his stans, anyone criticizing his movie doesn't necessarily mean they are triggered/biased. Is shitty movie ko itna credit mat do.)

Even though Animal is not a good movie, people who are one-dimensional seem to have missed the central message of the movie. The core ideology proposes that we are all animals pretending to be civilized-a concept imposed on us through social and political programming by society. This absence of police throughout the movie serves to create an anarchical atmosphere.

Don’t think the argument that “hollywood me bhi toh hota hai” holds true here. Indian audiences are immature, and the things being normalised by this movie by someone like Ranbir Kapoor will definitely have a long lasting effect on easily impressionable audiences.

I seriously don't know the intention behind Sandeep Reddy vanga But what he's doing isn't about making violent flims. There are multiple violent movies which are ten times more violent than animal movie like Saw franchise, Daredevil, Punisher or even joker but at the end you see those violent Hollywood flims showcase violence for something morale purpose. Like in saw franchise, violence is shown to portray the essence of karma. But what Sandeep Reddy vanga is doing is that the soul of his each movie starting from kabir Singh to Animal movie are mainly based on demeaning womens and promoting the next level toxic mysogyny and promoting the wild beastly attitude of boys which is a potential threat to all the womens of our society. I mean Just like Rajkumar Hirani or SS rajamouli or Christopher Nolan or Ridley Scott or jack Snyder has a symbolic element within their direction, Sandeep Reddy vanga thought that he gonna make his symbol in direction is by promoting toxic mysogyny, justify sexual violence against women and glorify perverts in his movies that too without reaching a morale purpose. Such directors firstly needs to be questioned. Cuz this sort of Flim can give the every possible way to the most mysogynist impression on boys

How many of you have watched *paruthiveeram*? This film too filled with alot of violence and toxic masculinity of lead character but at the climax karthi had to pay the price for his immoral actions. What problematic in cinemas like kabir singh, Animal is that lead characters of these film get away with all its flaws and comes to a happy ending. This is utterly disgusting.

The movie lacks coherence, simply. I don't think the violence depicted in the movie had such intensity as GoW had. It was not level of GoW. Ranbir had given his best. Except the movie was not of such hype. His gesture, style, dialogue delivery was upto the level. But Not upto the mark of GoW.

no matter how much voilent hollywood movies u watch , teh place and the culture will always remain foreign to us..hence hardly anybody relates to it...however an Indian culture rooted in culture, language , relationships, land will always feel impressionable to majority of the audience..thats why its important to bring good cinema with good message tht influences the people to have good values....some responsibilty lies with the filmakers as to what they are trying to glorify...

Shubham, Rajesh, I always love your takes on Movie reviews and follow most of your videos. Honest opinion (A few spoilers ahead, so please avoid reading if you have not seen it yet) 1st half - Crisp, top-notch acting, BGM well suited to situations. Why of Ranbir's obsession to his father could have been explored much deeper, but will leave that aside 2nd Half - Seemed like not the character, but director had concussion and forgot the tonality, setup, and character development arc that he invested so much in 1st half. Zoya's story arc and the whole confrontation with Geetanjali just made the story drag a lot (For a good 30-35 minutes). Bobby Deol's arc could have been explored much much deeper to build up the tension for final fight and why is there so much animosity in his deranged mind. Battle in 1st half with a sidekick villain seemed more impactful. Even BGM of B Praak's emotional song was not suited for that situation. I literally chuckled, at what I was looking at, was it supposed to be a reunion, will they be saying sorry to each other and then mend their ways :D. It was supposed to be a father-son bond song, how does it make sense to put it there. I felt the intro scene about that Monkey story, multiple offensive dialogues, S** reference, cringe below the belt jokes, underwear jokes, or even that comment about women's physicality or even the border BDSM behavior was just to prove to Critics I can do anything and earn money with my movies, and proves further that he is a wannabe who wants to be considered an intelligent, High IQ director. I don't have problems with showing false masculanity, or toxic behavior, if it is backed by storyline and character development and circumstances of the movie. If he did cheat his wife, because guy has turned into an Animal post his accident for whatever concussions or sufferings he had, and also because of his obsession with his father, keep at it. Don't then go back justifying your behaviour and trying to make audience empathize with the character. He has done in subtle way by the song Satranga, Vijay touching his wife's feet, or falling asleep in her laps, or caring about his father or his children in last few scenes, these are then not needed at all. Just let character go berserk and be unapologetic (Similar to something in Breaking bad, let the protagonist turn into a complete antagonist, who everyone hates). Don't try to make people empathize with the character. Or best avoid the whole infidelity angle, it has done nothing but harm the movie. Also, when a movie has a tinge of narrative to just prove to critics and just massaging your own ego as director, you have already disconnected from audience. Also, what is that last scene of old Ranbir pointing down, simply laughable, why the hell is it in the movie, no connection to narrative :D . Movie will be a blockbuster, but you see any top reviewers' (not bollywood critics) comments and you will find the reality that this is just an average movie. I love RANBIR and he is a beast of an actor. He surely deserved a better movie. And for the director, next time make movie for the audience and not to prove your machoism as a director. This could have been such a Masterpiece and a proud film for bollywood, but alas the ego of the director.

I don't realise why people like this. An alpa is not someone who forces himself on all situations. Ranvijay in movie is just mad. The issue is movie was promoted as violent movie. This isn't violence, it's just madness. India is evolved enough to understand complex emotions. Shakti based on similar lines was made so long back. Animal is just obscene. One who likes obscenity and madness can like this. And please for god's sake don't bring in John Wick as comparison. Even mentioning John Wick here should be a crime. Only thing that's wrong with the movie is it played on the liking of Indian audience towards action. Had they not promoted as an action violence movie, it would have been absolutely fine 😄

I wonder why nobody is talking about the copied scene of ROLEX in the climax.... Negative points in the film -- Tripti dimri scenes -- couldn't use Bobby Deol -- Too long 2nd half -- could have been easily choped 15-20 mins -- didn't emphasize on the history of swastik industry and Bobby's family -- portraying of protagonist is not good -- Storyline is not good

This is a journey of Ranvijay from being an Alpha male to an Animal, Like he cheats on his loyal wife, Alpha males stay true to his word and never cheat. Feminist critics should know this fact. It doesn't glorify Ranvijay as an Alpha male. It justifies the movie name, ANIMAL.

Gali nhi deni hai, violence nhi chahiye, sex nhi chahiye, ladke ladki ek dusre ko thappad nhi maar sakte. this is all bullshit. It is his creativity, uska paisa use jaisa krna ho. Nahi achi to mat dekho na, but jo tareef kr rha hai use kyu criticize kr rhe ho, tumko nhi achi lagi to mat dekho.
