I am certainly not a woke lefty but I do find the concept of forced conscription into a race with a 6% chance of a painful death unpalatable. If it were a race of enslaved humans perhaps you would too. To those who honestly believe animals to be deserving of equal compassion, such as a Buddhist for example, the arguments against this race are easier to fathom. I guess we still live in a world where despite science telling us that these animals are just as if not more conscious and sensitive to their surroundings as we are, it is ok for us to ride them to their potential deaths for our own thrills and financial benefit. Horse racing disciplines that are less risky are not so objectionable, though there is still the problem of exploitation - unless you can prove to me >=99% that the horses really love what they do.

I have to ask where you have encountered "these people" , who are they and what are their names without using this guy^ or going and doing a quick Google, if you can't answer then you're just as faulty as the people you're putting down. We can't always remember where or what the name was exactly for what we're refering to, and that's okay! So long as what we are referring to is factual. Horses are dying because of the sport, fact. Global average temperatures are rising, fact. Global greenhouse emissions are rising and continue to do so, fact. We're currently in a mass extinction event in earth's history, (don't agree look it up). Why do interviewers never ask them the following. You want to end the carbon effects of animal agriculture. To effectively achieve this would require the killing of millions of animals in the UK alone. They always say let them go free , this is of course absolute bollox and would have no effect on carbon levels. Unless they want each animal spayed which again is in their view animal abuse. Around 20% of agricultural land in the UK is for cattle, they say adapt to produce plant based food. The land is used for cattle because in nearly all cases it’s unsuitable for crop growth. Ask them some real questions and show them as the morons they really are.

William Russell The NF ponies are rounded up each year and we have no real wild horses per se. In Australia; and I expect the US, there are horses that have never come across a human being. The fact is wild horses do not live as long as their domesticated brethren, they sustain some horrible injuries and painful infections with no treatment and often lingering death. These people cannot think beyond their own desires and will do whatever they can to ensure their aims are met irrespective of damage they cause. Remember the animal rights activists several years ago that let loose 100s of mink to run free that subsequently went through the countryside like a dose of salts decimating other wildlife. The only comment these dim wits had was oh we didn't know they would do that!

@@freddiebiscuit9703 I think when all people can do is criticise of the METHODS of activism (which may or may not always be valid) often it’s some sort of catharsis for the guilty party to feel some satisfaction in the idea of a protestor scoring an own goal. I’m not saying we can’t criticise methods, but when it happens a lot it’s pretty clear that people don’t have an argument on the actual content of the issue and so constantly sidestep by instead talking about the bad methods of activism or one step lower which is just basic childish insults like saying your the people you disagree with are ugly or stupid (“dim wits” as you put it). I think the reason people don’t say much is because they know deep down the activists are right. Animals shouldn’t be exploited in these outdated gladiatorial dangers. There’s no excuses for it and the industry are desperately scrambling to excuse something that’s quite clearly wrong.

@@gilesdesign I have spent 40 + years of my life around these animals so fair to say I have a wee bit of knowledge about them. I have ex-race horses of my own and have both rescued and retrained. I have also been a competitive rider in my day. These people are dim wits, thugs and bullies with either none or little understanding of the subject it would seem. Hill Sixteen was well and truly wired when he ran, he was extremely upset because he was ready to go (along with others) and was then unsaddled and taken back to the box where he was sweating up and becoming agitated. He ran, fell at the first and broke his neck part down to these ignorant, entitled little morons delaying the proceedings. More horses fell at that first fence than has been recorded in a very long time. I have no guilt and yes I do criticise those that believe criminal activity is the way to get a point across. NO! @@freddiebiscuit9703 I think this is the industry line but the facts don’t add up, if Hill Sixteen was truly so visibly agitated as you suggest why on earth would they not pull them from the race? (if the horse’s well-being is a priority as we are lead to believe). It wouldn’t kill them to just not race. I don’t know what to believe if the horse was truly agitated or not but either way the blame is still squarely on the race supporters and not on the activists trying to stop such events from happening. All your experiences in the industry you think makes you more qualified to judge but I’m afraid I think it does the opposite, it makes you more motivated to defend your industry and the exploitation of these horses which if you looked at objectively you’d understand is clearly wrong.

@@gilesdesign No! some of the blame DOES absolutely lay with the criminals (yes criminals) that delayed the race for so long. With respect, you clearly don't know a horse's arse from its pastern let alone a TB athlete because if you did you would not ask why they didn't pull it from the race. It was wired and wanting to run because that is what they are trained to do and as you saw from the riderless ones, they will run and jump without a jockey on board. You do goody tree-huggers do things kneejerk fashion like the numpties that let all the mink loose that subsequently created absolute devastation to the countryside and then they whined that they hadn't realised the mink would do that. @@VioletR3062 You are talking about two separate issues here. The one you first mentioned about treating equines with broken legs and YES it can be done, has, and is done depending on the break and the horse's constitution. Yes, insurance companies will pay up, usually to a fixed figure but it is dependent on what you have covered for and of course, horses in certain disciplines will cost more to insure. In regards to a return to racing well, that's a different issue and entirely dependent on the owner's wishes. Arkle broke a pedal bone and his owner nursed him back to health, indeed he did race but not at the same calibre but the owner thought more of the horse than the money. If it is an entire male and successful as a runner then standing at stud is an option if a mare then breeding. I have worked with TBs most of my life and horses in general, competed, and take ex-racers. I currently have one who will not race because of medical issues that I am trying to sort out but he will stay with me and be loved and cared for despite his insurance excluding further treatment after June this year.

In all my years I have seen them exit their enclosures by jumping out because they thought they might like to be somewhere else or with another horse. If you research you will see that more sustain an injury or die in flat racing but you don't hear about it. However, horses that are not in the racing game also die just like people do.

Captain Hindsight I am not a gambler but I am an equestrian and horses will sustain serious injury simply by being in a field and in some cases will have to be euthanised. My friend's horse slipped and broke its back getting up after rolling around in the snow. These horses love to race as you saw from all the riderless ones that were jumping and getting in the way.

@@freddiebiscuit9703 why is everyone repeating this line about horses breaking their necks from being in fields, it’s that the industry script? If you think a day in a field carries the same level of risk for them as a race day at grand National doing 5ft high jumps in a crowded 30mph stampede then you are truly delusional. There might be more accidents in fields simply because they have more days in fields, it’s a maths problem you don’t understand how risk calculation works. There’s no denying this event is more dangerous for them than being in a field.

@@gilesdesign Here you are again🙄 The jumps range between 4' 6" and 5' 2" the Chair is the highest at 5'2" with a good long run up to it thus most horses get over safely. Most serious SJ courses have jumps of similar height and although one horse at a time, is set out in a much more confined space (show jumping was my main discipline). I will not disagree that the field is too big and I personally would reduce it again (it has already been reduced). The average speed is 30mph ( a racer can reach 40ish at peak but will not sustain it for long) and certainly, they won't be running at that speed for the entire race over fences. Horses also run differently which is why you get some "racing from behind". All horses competing must be aged 7 and above, have run at least 3 Steeple Chases under rules of the same recognised Racing Authority, and must have finished between 1st and 4th over 2 miles or greater. Jockeys must have had at least 15 wins, 10 of which must have been in Steeple Chase. (any Jocks out there can correct me if I am wrong). Horses competing in dressage suffer ongoing injury throughout their career and you don't get a much quieter competitive equine event than that! I don't pretend to be a mathematician so please stop trying to be an equestrian!

Do you actually know anything about horse racing or horses in general? Horses are big animals but their also very fragile, a horse can get it self killed by just getting its foot caught in a rabbit hole for instance just from flailing around in a massive panic. Most horses are unless their trained for it extremely skittish panicky animals. I've grow up around horses as my mother has managed equestrian canters her whole life and still does, even then someone with just a basic understanding of a horse would know that the disruption caused by the protesters jumping the fence and delaying the race has a massive impact on the mental state of the horses which more than anything will have contributed heavily to them getting hurt. These animals are massively hyped up to race, its what their trained for and they enjoy it, you can see it from most of the horses whos riders fell off continue to run around the track with the rest of the riders. The horses being held back for so long makes them super jittery and massively increases the chances for these sort of accidents. Also their not 'whipped and kicked to hell', you could be slapped by the 10 year old harder than any sensible rider would use a riding crop on a horse and the kicks to their sides are equally not painful. These things are done as a way to communicate to the horse, because its a horse it doesnt speak english how else does anyone think you tell a horse to move forward. These animals are objectively treated immaculately, humans in this country on average will be treated worse than these animals and really that applies even outside of racing where in my experience most people happily spend as much money on a horse as they would a child even when they cant afford it. There are 100% examples of neglect and poor treatment of horses, the place you will not find it is at the place where these horses are worth vast sums of money to their owners and where standards are so massively high as they are in this sort of high level horse racing. If any of these protesters wanted to actually help these animals there are a vast number of people and places they could go to instead, but they dont they target this one based entirely around its fame because then they get more attention and get to feel like their doing something 'heroic' despite realistically doing nothing other than virtue signalling to other morons.

Appeal to the law is a logical fallacy. There are countless current and historical examples of things which were legal that were wrong, and things that were illegal which were good. When the basis of the hosts argument is logically invalid it tells you all you need to know.
@3rdEyeWide

He was characterizing the METHOD of how to effect change in a society with the rule of law - not making the case that because something is lawful at a particular time does not mean it is automatically right. It is possible via legal means (peacful protest/ ballot box being two examples) to put in laws you agree with and get laws you disagree with stricken down. You're conflating the METHOD of how one might achieve changes in the law with the ACTUAL LAWS you hope that method will change (in this case laws relating to equine safety).

@@jpconley5618 Did Dolan say the law should be followed merely for the law's sake or did he actually provide a practical example (such as emergency services being delayed by tailback's due to road obstruction through protests) and - as others have pointed out in these comments - the obstruction of proceedings at the Grand National can actually cause harm to horses who are by nature quite skittish.

Myself and my husband watched this yesterday and to be fair, gasped when we saw the horses fall and one instance showed a horse, having fallen at landing after a jump , be trampled on by the horse behind. Years ago, before this advance in filming (drones etc) , no one would see this! We were appalled at what we saw and for that reason can see why people would want to protest!
@ayoungconservative1051

It was the protests that caused the panic in the horses. It has been years since the last horse death at the Grand National. What you don't realise is horse racing is a high intensity, inch perfect sport. Any delay was bound to have bad consequences. The delay unsettled the horses, they were forced to ride around the paddle while the police removed the protestors which made the horses jumpy. Further more the riders would have been nervous of member of the crowd jumping in front of the horses or running infront of the fences. Horses are very intelligent and they are able to sense fear in their riders, essentially the protests caused an increase in panic in both the horses and the riders which is why we saw those awful scenes. Don't blame the sport, blame the idiots who put the horses at risk through their pathetic protests.

Now animals are a mulitple resource....take cows for example.....their milk, their meat, their leather and other products such as vaccines and glue can be used from that animal. also it takes more water to make oat milk than it does on animals...watch Iwoa diary farmer he is very informative
