I live in OR and they've started coming back into the state and I'm stoked! Edit: because I've now seen two people from OR making this false claim, WOLVES ARE NATIVE TO OREGON. Go learn your own state's history before spouting off that nonsense. There's a native wolf species for almost every single state in the union except Hawaii. Gray wolves in the north and red wolves in the south (they're nearly extinct at this point tho), and OR had timber wolves which are gray wolves, so yes they're native here.

Wolverines are durable and courageous creatures. No doubt about that. They are one of the few creatures in the wild that possess the closest thing to what's referred to as gameness. Gameness is basically the determination to not give up even when faced with danger or a very challenging situation. It is a quality mostly found in and associated with catch and fighting dogs such as like a certain breed most of us know that have been selectively bred for very dangerous and challenging tasks such as controlling bulls in bullfighting matches, holding down wild pigs for hunting, and fighting each other in dogfighting matches that can last longer than some movies. A dog can be exhausted, have broken bones, and even on the verge of death, but the dog still will not back down and have the will to keep going. It is a trait that actually goes against nature, which is why wolverine don't exactly have the same gameness a certain breed has been bred for. But the wolverine has the closest thing to it out of any wild creature, except for probably its cousins the badger and the honey badger. I have seen video of wolverine sometimes running from a wolf and a few videos of wolverine backing down from a badger. One crazy video even shows two wolverines attacking a badger, and then the wolverines back off! However, I have seen videos on KZbin of gamedogs fighting badgers in one-on-one fights, and the dogs are actually handling the badgers.

They are really so interesting, specially because you don't expect them to try and take down elks or fight bears...but they do. On a backcountry ski touring trip in the BC Rockies some years ago we came upon wolverine tracks near the top of the Bluewater Glacier (Campbell Icefield Chalet). This is well above 2,000 meters altitude in the middle of winter. There's a deadly drop off at the top of the glacier where tracks disappeared, no fall zone for us skiers.... A climb that took us hours on skis with skins likely took no time for the wolverine to cover. Amazing creatures.

Imagine getting buried in an avalanche and you hear digging, thinking someone is there to rescue you, but it's just a hungry wolverine 😳 A gestation period of 30-50 days? That's quite the range. I wonder what impacts the length of the gestation period. And it's so interesting they have delayed implantation like black bears. I'm not sure if it got mentioned, apologies if it did, but the only other person to go into that enclosure was Coyote Peterson. However the interaction didn't go very smoothly, you are phenomenally lucky that you got to enjoy that experience! I bet it was amazing and elating to be the only person to be in the enclosure with Jasper, that's so awesome!
