For those of new to training DO NOT LIFT THROUGH AN INJURY, it is more important to recover than to fight through something that isn’t necessary. I’ve been lifting for over 20 years and the times I fought through pain I regretted the amount of time it took to recover if I just took an extra day to recuperate I wouldn’t need extended forced rest.

Love to see it too since Dan is kind of the gold standard for a "strong" sumo. No freaky leverages, mixed grip, kg plates. Lots of people can pull big like Tyson after combining all those little cheat codes, but their other lifts are ass in comparison. Dan pulls BIG both ways, and beltless, and benches more than Tyson has ever squatted haha. Sumo would get A LOT less hate if people only used stiff bars or deadlift bars loaded with competition plates. One gym I go to has pretty thin 45lb plates, I could easily load 945 or 1035 on a texas dl bar (10-11 plates) with some room to spare. And even then, it feels COMPLETELY different to lifting with kg comp plates. Like I've repped over 800 with lb plates before, but 815 is a fucking nightmare of a grind with the calibrated plates. It's hard to understand how much of a difference things like plate width, grip width, and using straps to hold the bar at the end of your fingertips can make. Bar whip is noticeable for me at 225lbs, I'll instantly notice a difference between a texas, kabuki, oki, and ohio deadlift bar based on how much it bends with that weight. Most people will notice a big difference at around 500-600lbs, but once you break into the 7 and 800s it gets really fucking ridiculous feeling, genuinely feels like a different lift. It basically is because your starting position changes as the weights get heavier and the bar bends more, so someone like me who's fast off the floor ends up getting screwed over since all the plates aren't off the ground until I'm at my weakest position in the lift (block pull height). I think Tyson would be lucky to pull 650 with an axle considering how much he relies on bar flex to be strong, that bar cannot be cheated and nobody will give you shit for using straps if you're going heavy. Come to think of it, I've been struggling a lot with bar whip control lately and that's usually a result of a poor starting position or losing position early on in the lift so I think I'll actually start pushing my axle dead. I've done 725 with an axle, If I can work that up to 800 then a 880-900 pull with a dl bar and comp plates will be there for sure :D

Somebody needs to teach tyson that 'mass moves mass' talking about its not how big you are that moves the weight
@micskra12 күн бұрын
it's not about how big you are, it's about how you can alter variables in the lift to put yourself in the most mechanically efficient and advantageous position to move the weight. In his case, sumo with naturally good leverages, super rounded t-spine to shorten ROM, deep dish lb plates to increase bar flex/shorten ROM, narrow grip to shorten ROM, using straps to let the bar hang in the tips of your fingers to reduce ROM even more, and then loading the thinner, heavier and more dense plates on the outside to increase bar flex and shorten ROM even more. Throw him on a stiff bar and watch his max go down 250-300lbs. Dude works hard and is strong, but people need to understand how if you're built well for sumo and you use all those tricks you can easily add 200lbs to your max with some practice. Until you've moved big weight like that yourself, you can't truly understand how much easier you can make the lift by making a few adjustments and being aware of how you load the bar and what plates you use. It's a social media lift; it's not gonna get you jacked, or strong, and it's not going to have any carry over to other lifts, nor will it have any transfer to functional strength irl. Zercher squats/deads, axle deads, and loading/shouldering stones are all lifts that you will suck balls at if you are not objectively and undeniably strong. If you can zercher deadlift 500 or axle pull 700+ you're gonna be good at everything you try (baseline level of full body strength is way higher for those movements), but a 5" ROM with a fully upright torso 900lb sumo deadlift isn't going to get you jacked or really accomplish anything besides improving your 5" ROM sumo deadlift. It's comparable to specializing on a machine like a pec deck, yea you can pec fly 250lbs but you suck at everything else. If you're only "strong" in one position under very specific circumstance, then you're not actually strong 🤷♂
@thangq268412 күн бұрын
@@micskra You can do all those things nad be stronger than the average lifter but there is brick wall, big-lean guys aren't deadlifting what the mass monsters of strongman do
