I love Pink Floyd but sometimes I just want to give a reality check to their fans, here is few: Genesis - Supper’s Ready or easier to say the whole the lamb album, Foxtrot or Selling England albums Yes - Gates Of Delirium Yes - Close to The Edge Yes - Awaken Peter Hammill - A Louse Is Not A Home (few lines of this song washes the lyrics of the whole Pink Floyd discography) VDGG - A Plague Of A Lighthouse Keepers Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick That’s first that comes to mind, but I can name another 20 songs more powerful musically or lyrically than Dogs (the best Pink Floyd song imo)

@@garri5108 Yes lyrics are a lot of nonsense (and I'm a fan). Thick as a Brick is great but would seem deliberately nonsensical lyrically. Respect to Genesis but for me they lack the musical cohesiveness of Floyd, they're too all over the place.

Lyrically I agree, Pink Floyd is better than Yes, but still nowhere near to Genesis, if it's all over tha place then read it again, it's often far more deep than you think, and also Genesis has beatiful poetry, and not just sometimes words on random without rhymes

@@garri5108 I have a PhD in music and am therefore incurably confident about sorting good music from better. In Genesis there's generally too much hyperactive fapping and neoclassical tweeness, though plenty of good ideas. Floyd could be like that too, but Genesis have nothing to compete with Floyd at their best imo, and I prefer Floyd's chiller vibe.

@@sammyc3696 last line explains everything, you just like chiller vibe, because musically Floyd not even close as I said. Genesis music was written by composers, with great structure, great melodies, great solos, great poetry, and of course Genesis members could play complex parta because they technically better as musicians. Floyd is more about the vibe and experience, here you can find just guitar squeals for several minutes like in Echoes, or few minutes of repeated 3 notes and it's working I low PF, but can't really compare them with composers music

Richard Wright definitely sang on Wearing the Inside Out from The Division Bell album. It’s his song and an outstanding song. This may have been the last time he sang with the Roger Waters dominated Pink Floyd.

This is the best album of all time, not just the best Floyd album but the best album period.

The first Pink Floyd album that I ever bought back in the 70s. I use to listen to this with my pioneer headphones (old 70s style) every night kicked back on my bean bag chair. I still have this album and the same old pioneer headphones from back in the day. Every night I still listen to this with those headphones. Thank you for the memories. Turning 63 in a few days.

I have to post a correction to one thing you said. Richard Wright sang lead vocal on Wearing the Inside Out on the 1994 Pink Floyd album, The Division Bell. In fact he also co wrote that song.

What surprised me here is, how little you had to say about this song. There's so much in it both musically and lyrically. I first heard this when I was 18 and now I'm about to turn 57 and I still listen to it, and recognise that there's nothing like this at all. It's totally unique and brilliant

Old bore warning. Or should it be old boar? Anyway, I saw The Floyd ( that’s what us Brits called them ) at Liverpool Empire in November 1974. They opened with “ Raving And Drooling” ( now “ Sheep”), then “ You Got To Be Crazy” ( now “ Dogs”) then “ Shine On You Crazy Diamond “ , none of which any of us in the audience had heard before. The band then left the stage for a 15 minute interval during which we were encouraged by Roger to “ roll up a few more for the next number”. Upon returning, they played DSOTM right through, with a film to match each song projected on to a huge screen behind the band. The encore was “ Echoes” , complete with so much dry ice you couldn’t actually see the band. Or it may have been due to the smoke from the audience. I can’t quite remember for some reason. So yeah Mike you’re absolutely right about them having already written / recorded versions of “ Dogs” and “ Sheep “ even before “ WYWH” was released. I saw them live again 8 months later at Knebworth July 1975 when they more or less played exactly the same set , with the addition of “ Have A Cigar” and possibly one other song. Great reaction!! Welcome to Dogs Dev!! This is in my top 5 PF songs (Echoes being #1, High Hopes, Shine On (all parts) & Time being the others). The music, lyrics, everything is pure perfection with this track! My favourite is the 'slow' section, starting with the harmonizing guitars & where Rick's keys are more prominent, then the acoustic & barking dogs...it's musical bliss! The vocal harmonies are also beautiful on this. I can tell this is the 'remastered' version, there's more depth there than on my original vinyl. Great album...can't wait for the rest. Cheers.

Thanks for more Floyd, another great album, 5 in a row starting with Meddle, the !musical experience of the 70s continues to grow with modern listeners. Roger Waters, genius but disturbing album, lyrically. Saw it in entirety as the opening set, for them in the old Boston Garden in 1977, they then did all of Wish You Were Here for the second set, with a Dark Side medley for the encore. We had seats on the floor, just in front of the audio/video island in the middle of the floor, so were right in the focus of the 5 channel PA system. 🔉 It was amazing to hear the separation between Gilmour and Wright, I have never heard better sound in my life! Plus they brought out the flying pig. 🐖 Enjoy side 2. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶🔥

Got this album in 1979 on cassette at a little record store on Las Vegas blvd called tower records. It was after midnight we drove up and down the strip listening to this masterpiece for the first time in my chevy luv . Awesome

In a nutshell, this was Roger's bile spilling out in a screed vilifying life in mid-70s Britain. Pigs are the ruling elite, dogs are their henchmen (big business), and the sheep are the general populace being screwed over by the other two. It goes far deeper, both lyrically and within the band. Richard Wright was fired by Waters as a full time member after this album, and only played on the following album - "The Wall" - as a session musician. One final nugget here - when you get to the second side ("Pigs -Three Different Ones", "Sheep", and the outro "Pigs On The Wing part 2", you may notice how much more powerful and emotional the bass is. This is due to the fact that David Gilmour played bass (and lead guitar) on both tracks, with Roger just doing rhythm guitar. Overall, an absolute epic album, easily the equal of the other four in the middle grouping of records (DSOTM, WYWH, and then the subsequent WALL. Chronologically, each one exhibits Roger's increasing bitterness and alienation from both the band and society in general. This downward spiral ultimately led to their final breakup after "The Final Cut" (which was, for all intents and purposes, a Waters solo project).

It's come out more over the last few years that Gilmour played bass on a lot more of the Floyd output than credited for, Roger never got to grips with fretless basses and there was a recent interview snippet where Gilmour said that Roger never worked at his playing to get better, there are some rumours as well that Gilmour did some drumming because Nick was either under prepared or couldn't get to grips with the fills, if you look for the Barn Jams there is a sequence with Gilmour playing the drums. I think Roger was credited with Rhythm guitar because he wouldn't have any recorded musical input, it's also interesting that live David would sing all the verses for Dogs and Roger only did the ending part which includes David live as well, David was and is a very good singer, far better than Roger, and I think that tends to get overlooked.

I remember listening to this album when it came out in 1977 for the first time. I was instantly hooked and listened to it many times in a dark room alone....that is the best way to listen to this album, preferably with some atmosphere in the room, such as black light posters, or a lit candle will do. Roger Waters is my favorite Floyd singer, it takes you on a journey. Adds to the trippy parts so well.

This was, and remains, my favourite Pink Floyd album. Released at the height of the punk music scene in the UK and to an extent it was more punk than punk in terms of its message and completely brutal (but achingly beautiful) delivery.

Based on the music that you have focussed on on your channel I am certain that you would love the work of Steven Wilson both with his band Porcupine Tree who arguably picked up where Floyd left off and as a solo artist. Albums that I would recommend for the MfBP treatment would be ‘ Fear of a blank planet’ by Porcupine Tree and ‘Hand cannot erase’ by Steven Wilson. If they don’t drag you into his rabbit hole then I will be astonished.

Well I think this has more volume and space than the 1977 original which sounds very dry and compressed compared to the dark side and wish you were here. I never really liked how the original Animals sounded.

You say that you prefer it when David Gilmour sings and you regret that he doesn't sing the whole album... Ok, that's not my opinion because precisely when Waters sings, the tone changes, it's less melodious but more animal, more intense, we feel the tortured guy and that, Gilmour can do what he wants, he doesn't reach this level of madness and dark atmosphere... Ok Pink Floyd without Gilmour is not Pink Floyd, but Pink Floyd without the dark and destructive madness of Waters is not Pink Floyd either...

I feel Roger Waters could have been one of the greatest songwriters ever, except he stooped developing as a human being. He got stuck in anger, resentment and trauma. His genius at describing this social and persinal trauma was perfect, but he needed to move through it and show deeper human connections to stay relevant. Instead he burned out and burned the all of the people and world around him.

Yes. The Floyd (ALWAYS) got it right the first time. The 1977 original has a buttery warmth that's stripped away on the "remaster". The remastered version... the mix is off... It's way too sharp. Too processed. ... To all reviewers: Stay away from "remastered" Floyd. Live or original recording is the way to go.
