We adopted a 40 year old Amazon two and a half years ago - he took to my wife, but HATED me. I couldn't enter the room without him trying to bite and walking by his enclosure felt like I was risking my life. This went on for over two years! But I never gave up and I would whistle with him, talk to him, and continued to earn his trust. Then just a few months ago he let me touch him - barely. Today, I'm able to have him step up and walk around the house with him on my arm. I can't even describe how satisfying it is to know that all the persistence finally paid off and we are now buddies :)

Taylor did such a great job at showing and explaining to us how she's working with Archie ♥ Might never use this information since I don't have or plan on having a bird, but still love learning about all types of animals.

gondiamond Its seams kind of pay tribute to “rag edging” or pinking edges. It’s a step towards acknowledging hand made things within factory products, unless of course its hand-made, in which case, bravo! Have you considered that when producing content it might be frustrating to see comments that aren’t so much about the content the creator is focusing on? I don’t know that’s the case here, but have heard other creators express their frustration with such comments. I’m sure that wasn’t your intention and hope pointing out it might be something to consider didn’t come across as negative in any way. Take care

My old workplace (cat and dog animal shelter) asked me to foster a 35 yr old Amazon parrot with the option to adopt at the end. I live in a one bedroom apartment. Over the two weeks I fell in love with the parrot. He cuddled in my lap to sleep, demanded to be with me every moment. I literally started sobbing when I returned him to the shelter for a rescue to pick him up. I could hear him screaming for me. I knew, however, that I couldn’t provide the best long-term care for him. Thank you to people and organizations that take such good care of these beautiful animals ❤️

great job, Taylor! 👏👍 You aren’t just good at training parrots, but also at teaching human beings! Very nice explanation! I love clicker training, works great with all sorts of animals! I especially love how it easily gets the animals to also offer us behaviors they think we would like, so it makes them take initiative and show us, which I think makes them show their personality much more. Makes the whole thing a lot more fun... 😊

My mother has a Blue fronted amazon as well! Was super excited to see you and Archie and you both did great! My mother's bird, Mack, is extremely noisy and while happy noises and singing are not a problem, it sounds more like yelling and screaming for someone to come in with him as he usually gets better when someone goes and talks to him. was wondering if there was anything I could do to advise my mom on what to do, Thanks

Hi Taylor, Glad to see you on Animal Wonders. I really liked your idea of placing Archie on the ground in order to rescue him onto your hand. I thought that was great! How long have you been working with birds? I am still young and I have had a passion for working with animals since a very young age. I also love birds but for right now I have a rabbit, like Hazel, that I have clicker trained, thanks to Jesse's videos. It is great that Jesse has invited you to bond with Archie. I admire her a lot. Look forward to seeing more videos with you and Archie on Animal Wonders.

Can I ask how long this took? Just on average how long does it take to develop a relationship with a bird? Days weeks months years?
@garyblack87947 жыл бұрын
Working with parrots I can tell you it really depends some bird it can a couple of days months and some even take years but the ones that take the longest are the most rewarding it depends on the bird and where it came from

Hi Taylor, I was wondering what type of treat you are feeding Archie in this video. It doesn't seem to take him long to finish the treat which is a good thing for training. Also, it didn't look like a seed since I didn't see any waste falling from his beak, and that would be a lot of seeds every day possibly two or three times a day. I try to limit seed intake for real special treats if possible. What are you using? Thanks

This really helps me, because soon i will be taking my friends amazon for a bit to train him, they'd do it themselves but they are scared of him as he bites them, plus, his wings aren't clipped but he cant fly, im going to teach him that too as im working with Tiki on how to

I was working at a petco back in 07 with great co-workers who cared. We had an enclosed bird room in the middle of the store and got a sun conure transfered from another store. It had bonded strongly with a worker there and couldn't be sold. Since I had purchased a GCC earlier I decided to work with it and use my new knowledge of birds. It was a fiesty bird and only wanted to bite so I would put my hand close then pull back at signs of aggression then turn it into a fun game to spark curiosity. What was at first pure aggression turned into a positive interaction. It wasn't long before my daily interaction turned into stepping up then sitting on my shoulder while I cleaned the room and changed food and water. Then I thought about the over-bond issue and gradually stepped away my duties. It wasn't long before I could walk down the isle's of the store and look into the bird room and see the Sun stepping up and flying from the cart handle to another employee. It didn't take long before this conure found a new home.
