Animate Leaves Growing in Blender Geo Nodes

This tutorial explains how to make unfolding/unrolling leaves with geometry nodes. You could achieve this with just using a curve guide or simple deform but I find geometry nodes to be more custom

Look good, I'm sure you know, but for those who are curious, if you store the position data before instant object, you can animate leaf with that data and offset by scene time data for indivicial leaf, dont have to keyframe one by one ;).

do you mean to offset time by random value/ offset value of something in geo nodes? because im thinking how to offfset time in already animated object for example on shape keys, and how to offset that animation.

Yes, you are right. You cannot randomise the animated object with the offset value, at least without a workaround. I gave incomplete information to keep the explanation short, i am sorry for that. I wanted to say that you can create the animation of the leaves with the geometry node with the time scene value and you can randomise it by adding a random value in my comment. Also there is a couple of way to animate shape key in geo node but its requare a long explonation. I hope it helped.

I usually use Bagapie for plants when in in scenes and sometimes build geometry nodes setups if it needs more animation

nice tutorial! Any idea why when i duplicate object and geonode but it stacks with the original one when i start the animation? This is even after positioning the duplicate side by side.

could be the empty keyframes on the axis you are trying to move them (if you need separate just redo empty keyframes per leaf with new positioning), they did that for me but once you instance and separate them they split up

@@cheuqs sick! would we be able to instance it on objects so we can have them grow on objects? cause i tried geoscatter for growing flowers on objects but they don't really show the actual grow animation but they just scale i guess...

@@jahhe2611 yup! they are all made with individual petals that fold out, then you can take the geometry nodes setup (flower) and instance that on what ever object and they will still bloom

Hey, there's a video in the file package that shows how to reimport & text in the rose collection too, you just need to reimport/refresh the alembic (leaf) because blender doesn't pack alembics into files
