For others looking - Bring your illustrator file into AE, then right-click the layer > Create > Create Shapes from Vector Layer. Then it behaves the same as this.

1:35 Just place the keyframes of the Offset closer together or make it much more than the 5 rotations shown in the video

This is a cool trick. I am trying to implement that to an eps vector layer. Seems like it should behave the same way once I "create shapes from layer" but under stroke, I get a stubborn question mark. Any ideas of why it's not letting me add a stroke?

Before adding Trim Path at 0:57, add stroke from the same animation properties menu (Add/Stroke) then add trim path. So make sure Stroke property is on top of the trim path property.

Hi, Thank you for the tutorial. I imported an AI shape of one stroke. Did as someone said below (add stroke) but then I get outline strokes, which means instead of one stroke it makes two. Thus it makes to ways (2 times) of "painting" the shape. The original AI is a shape of one stroke, now in AE I have a stroke which has outlined the shape. How can I get it two be just one stroke as before in AI?thank you.

Ok, got the solution myself, might help also others: the shape in AI has to be normal brush and only 1pt (I had a 5pt stroke in AI, therefore AE created outlines).

Make sure you have the shape layer selected or try Window / Workspace /Standard

I cannot create a stroke no matter what I do, I can get rid of the fill no problem but when it comes to the stroke it just gives me a question mark. Could this be because I used a vector file instead of text to create my shape?

I ran into this too. Seems like you can use that same "Add" tool to add a stroke to your object. Then proceed to add the trim path option as well, should work from there!

Maybe try doing this tutorial without a PNG or use the stoke effect to reveal your PNG then add the glow in After Effects in an Adjustment layer over the top.
