Part of me wonders if it could be a case of neglect? The reason parent abuse isn't usually a thing is adults are normally able to manage their kids' behavior, but Gideon's parents don't seem to make any effort to do so leading him to be unbelievably spoiled.

Finders Keepers is a law, but I don't think that would work. Finders Keepers requires for you to make a reasonable search for the original owner, if you find it then you give it to them. If they show up you have to give it to him. He Destroyed property to steal the deed, then used it to destroy the place likely giving him a massive fine to repay, then he evicted them. He knew who owned it, then he lied about it.
