Very valuable info, especially the part on "not giving up ownership", and "Nobody cares for your work as much as you do."

Excellent presentation Mark. A bit of a reality check for dreamers like myself of course.....but yes....competing agendas is the issue. An artist might think his/her ideas are golden...but the only way to see that vision through is if the studio you pitch to feels that they need your involvement. If you are generally recognized as a nice person, co-operative and a creative genius people WILL make a place for you , but there are also many who feel the need to inflate their own reputations . Allowing an artist to truly take center stage can seem risky to some studios or people who feel insecure about their own positions, but if your idea is a proven winner they will be less likely to try to take over your project completely. So....the trick becomes.....how to prove your vision within reason . Research what you can about TV production.....it is an assembly line business in many ways so don't try to pitch Pixar quality on a shoestring budget...it's simply not feasible. Then try to prove your concept in a more public way as Mark suggests.......if your trailer / demo or concept art has "gone viral" there is a greater chance the end client will want something very close to your concept and not accept a middle-mans interpretation of it ! Good luck to us all !
