His "Order in the Court!" super deserves special mention, as it knocks down both the user and the opponent. By using it, The Judge is basically "resetting" the battleground by bringing order, making both players start from scratch.

This is how powerful Turnabout mode is: You see those fingers he keeps throwing out? Getting hit by one of those means your character dies by the medium difficulty combo that follows. A.B.I wasn't exaggerating when he says that Ace Attorney is the most powerful move in the game. If you get caught attacking from ANYWHERE in the frame it was cast, you get caught and take 70-90% of your health as damage.

yeah, the giant fingers go more than half screen, have overhead and low versions, can ground or wall bounce you, and can be chained into themselves 5 or 6 times, and thats just one thing he gets

In terms of guest/crossover characters, I can't think anyone as brilliantly designed as Phoenix Wright. Whoever came up with such a dumb idea and make it work perfectly deserves an award. Fun Fact: In Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright is basically unkillable (A long fall into a cold river only gave him a runny nose, and getting hit by a car and launched into a light post head-first only gave him a sprained ankle). In UMVC3, Phoenix's health is at 1,000,000, one of the highest totals in the game (tied with other powerhouses like Dr. Doom, Ryu, Wesker, Super Skrull, etc. while only being lower than the likes of Thor, Hulk, Haggar, Nemesis, etc.).

I would have loved you going also over his "Order in the court" Super For example mentioning how: *it's only available in trial mode, the only place where you would find the judge *It's a DP super and it sends both Phoenix wright and the opponent flying, this usually results in the players returning to a somewhat neutral position, just like in a trial where the judge has to set order so things don't get out of control *This super also removes bad evidence from Phoenix, which kinda represents moments in ace attorney where Phoenix uses the little time he has to "present" new evidences that shows proof of his client Innocence (it's kinda of a joke that Nick loves to pull saves out of nowhere when being pressured, kinda like a DP super would be) *And lastly if done incorrectly this move puts Phoenix in a grounded state where some supers can easily punish him Just something I wanted to say and I thought of at 3 am, amazing video

Additionally, the small detail, "Objection overruled!": Wright will revert back to Investigation Mode because he didn't have enough evidence to continue the trial. Order in the Court is available in Turnabout mode, by the way. Same, but greater damage, and without mode reversion.

Something that I've noticed that seems a bit more meta about PW's design (which may or may not be a accident) is that all top players that I've seen put him as the point (first) character, making him begin as the seemingly weakest link of the team and taking on the full brunt of the enemy's team, but I think that's the point, as it further mirrors him beginning in a disadvatange. There's also the fact that with his teammates covering for him and by being on the battle from the first second, PW has better chances to make his case as if he's also beginning a new case in his game, rather than suddenly taking over the case from somebody else. Also with specific assists and supers, PW can easily break his opponent's guard, like with Maya's super, in which if you attack in either low or high (I don't remember which one, the opposite height to Maya's) on the last hit, you get a guaranteed opening. It makes me think of the final cases of the games, in which PW always needs the help of his friends to truly come out victorious. He's a monster in his own right, but he's at his best when working alongside others, and it meshes greatly with UMvC3's team focused gameplay. Man, I was sad when he didn't return to Infinite, but considering the hot mess that that game was production wise (unrelated to the fighting game on its own merits), I'm kind of glad he didn't at the same time.

I love Ace Attorney and Nick's appearance in UMvC3 always tickles me as one of my top choices and an entry to truly get into traditional fighting games instead of watching from the sidelines. Nick in UMvC3 is so perfect that I've got reservations on him getting into Smash Bros cause I doubt they'd make him as cool as he is in MvC. I'd still love to see him regardless but it'll be tough to top perfection.

@@pacodapea432 First of all according a sneeze can travel around 100 mph. I couldn't find anything on how fast a standard sheet of paper can be thrown but apparently cards can be thrown only 75ish mph. Meaning a sneeze is technically more dangerous than a thrown playing card and a thrown card is significantly more dangerous than regular paper. Also, sharp objects like scissors and claws beat paper. You can't cut a sneeze in half, the blade will just pass right through it and get dirty.

I still think to this day Phoenix is still the most well translated character into any fighting game ever and in the most creative way possible. His gameplay works and feels like an Ace Attorney game. After playing the first game in the franchise recently (TGAA) I could really see the effort put in adapting him and what his game represents. The good news is, with Karuma by his side Ryunosuke can probably fit in easier in the next Capcom Vs game without sacrificing his overall gameplan.

While Adventures is first chronologically, it is relatively modern in terms of release date. Adventures was released in 2015, while the very first Ace Attorney back in 2001.

One of the things I love about Marvel VS Capcom and Smash Bros. is well they tend to adapt characters from other series and be very faithful with their representation, capturing all the traits of their personality. Even if they really "don't fit" in a fighting game, the devs make it work.

He may never be a top tier but Mr Wright is probably one of the best designed fighting game characters ever. It's really smart what they did here. Good luck designing another character that fits this "function".

This is such a wonderful summary of the Ace Attorney formula and how the UMvC3 translated it really well into a fighting game. I think it's worth mentioning that aside from fitting the attacks that aren't really attacks style, Maya's role in the moveset also sort of reflects her role in the original trilogy. Pheonix is the one doing the cross examining and general lawyer stuff, but Maya's headstrong attitude and spirit channeling powers are an invaluable support that has helped him in numerous cases.

Besides the brilliance of adapting Ace Attorney into a fighting game for Phoenix's movesets, I also like how Maya is implemented in his moves: Investigation Mode is the only mode where he access to Maya's shield reflecting how she helps him primarily during investigations. In Trial Mode, he can't use the shield referencing how Maya's assistance is limited. There is also the Order in the Court Hyper Combo that sets him back to Investigation Mode and destroys all bad evidence, referencing the Judge calling off the trial for the day and telling both the defense and prosecution to resume investigation.
