A lot of people have been asking for the name of the song in this video. There isn't really a name for it, but it's just a chord progression I came up with when I was playing guitar a couple years ago. I found the old recording and decided to use it as background music rather than having the video be total silence lol but yeah the song is just a short recording of me playing some chords I thought were pretty cool

Mannn, I agree with you 100%: "2D animation doesn't need high framerates, leave it to video games." Though if I've ever seen one good example of high framerate animation, *this* is it. And I'll add that this applies just as well to physical/stop-motion animation. In fact, I prefer the look of things shot on twos, or even THREES. Excellent demonstration!

I like the way japanese animators play with the framerates they animate in. For just talking or basic movement they use very limited animation, sometimes only 2-4 frames, but when they want a cut or a scene to have real impact, be it an emotional or an action sequence, they bump the fps they animate in way higher and it makes those moments stand out much more and make them feel really impactful

I normally animate at 24 fps. It actually gets easier once you get used to it. But I haven’t done animation with colored layers yet, so I may be misspeaking. But, hear me out. It’s not necessarily drawing the same exact thing over and over. You can simplify, merge two translucent layers. The key is to stretch out what ever you are animating as much as possible. Break boundaries. Use smear frames or blurred frames. Drawing the same thing over an over again actually makes it look really boring. If you break boundaries while simplifying, unless you over analyze the frames, it will have fluid motion and look pretty cool. Key frames are frames are the few frames in the animation that are the most detailed, and represent the basic motion. The rest you stretch and simplify and pull all you want. As long as they fall into place, and appear to have a general direction, specifically having a general direction from key frame to key frame. Sorry if this was too long to read, I just don’t like to see people who could genuinely be talented at this sort of thing be discouraged by the fact it is multiple drawings in a row. Trust me, it’s might be time consuming, but it’s really fun.

Even though making hand-animated 48 fps does look smoother, not only is it very hard to do both time-wise and drawing-wise, but it can make choppy movements from 24 fps that have more impact look like a less impactful and satisfying animation. Not that 48 is bad... but look at the end of the description to see what I mean.
@omegazero5884

Yea I agree but I feel like in the far of future we might see techniques develop for 48 fps.(If Animators decide to go for 48 fps. I know it's hard so you know always up to them) Like maybe having scenes that require a lot of impact go back down to 24 fps, or holding way more frames than needed. Just some hypotheticals coming from someone who doesn't animated and the knows only some of the most necessary rules.

@@omegazero5884 You know this will never happen. A large chunk of the art community still thinks the human eye can only see up to 24 fps. Aside from that a lot of animators are extremely traditionalist, claiming that less frames = more stylized just because its what they are used to.

@Novur
@Novur 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that it's a bunch of unnecessary time and effort, but the idea that animation at higher framerates is inherently less impactful seems to implicitly assume that the extra frames would be interpolated in the same way an A.I. would, by taking the mid-point of any motion and jamming a tween in. I disagree; I expect that in reality, hand-animation done at high framerates would be subject to the same artistic licence that artists take with motion and impact at standard framerates. You only need to look at something like the classic bouncing ball done at 6, 12, and 24 to see that it's perfectly possible to maintain a sense of stylization or exaggeration, but as you say, it's such a drain on resources that the only examples of high framerate animations seem to be limited to basic loops by hand, or soulless AI interpolated overcranks.

For Life Action Videos or Movies, AI is Amazing with that, but with Animation God it's terrible, the since it's a computer doing it, not you manually doing at 60 frames, the computer doesn't know what's between the frames you drew, it's doesn't create new animation out of nowhere, and you see there's a smushed blurry effect, it just looks terrible, Using AI on Animation is a insult to the animator, that's the reason why they usually stick to 24 or 48 Frames, with animation you have to create a Frame by Frame, if you run it through the computer it's not just gonna magically what's between it, Again AI is Meant for Life Action, Because With Life Action it does know what's between it, Because that's what AI is for.

It looks cartoony, simple (and not in a bad way). The other looks *incredibly* vivid. Almost uncanny. Perhaps its just how unusual it is to see proper 48fps hand-drawn animation, but it feels like the animation is jumping out of the frame and showing off every single piece of itself. This really makes me want to play with vastly different frame rates for different parts of the same scene. Kinda like how “Into the Spider-Verse” animated miles on twos when he started out and changed to ones later when he was more experienced. The first thing that comes to mind to try on is something like the whip animations from the Castlevania Netflix series, where maybe the whip itself is animated on ones or twos but the characters are animated in threes or even fours. Idk, its inspiring even to somebody who doesn’t predominantly work with animation.

Maybe just a personal interpretation, but it looked like 24 frames made it look like it had weight and 48 frames looked (for a lack of a better term) "floppy". Not bad, but just unexpected.

Animation tends to use 24 since it's more feasible to crank out, so it's what our eyes are used to seeing. 48 isn't very common and as a result it tends to look odd.

You can also try weird frame rates from anime that vary from 13-19fps and do doubles of those too, you don't always need to stick to the 12 fps multiples that school teaches you. And if 48 still looks too fast for you, you can always do 42.
@Mayyde
@Mayyde Жыл бұрын
Anime usually sticks to 6fps-8fps for dialogue scenes and general movement, and then move to 12fps-24fps for specific moments where it's required. The only framerates you could emulate lower than 24fps are ones that cleanly divide 24 without decimals. Numbers like 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12. This is part of the reason why I think 24 tends to work so well. Splitting the frames into 2s [12fps], 3s [8fps], 4s [6fps], and so on doesn't cause any weird decimals or repeating numbers, since we can't have 6.3333333 or 5.5 as a proper framerate. Can't display a third of half a frame without causing issues.

24fps looks much better, 48fps looks way too floaty and artificial. Also, 24fps isn't even used that often, most of the time it's 12/8/6fps, 24fps is only used for slow motion or very slow moving objects. High Hz is for games, where you need low latency between the controls and what happens on screen, not for non-interactive videos.
