AI can’t function without human input. besides, AI animation is incredibly shitty and used only for in between frames because the AI needs interpretation, and rarely at that. I don’t see AI getting more advanced than this.

I understand animating as a hobby, but colleges where you pay so much money, and there’s a huge risk of, it not even working out, is like down right stealing! College and schools should teach things you can actually 99% make money! (I understand noting is ever 100%)

I actually wanted to get into that more in this video, but didn’t know if I should. It kinda makes me a tad annoyed all these animation schools are allowing students to come in and pay and arm and a leg, all while the teachers and staff know that the industry is doing bad right now. Like my teacher kept giving my class false hope that things would pick up when we were done.. and I don’t blame him, he probably feels bad about the situation. But the thing is they still take in students anyway. They don’t tell people upon entering that the animation industry has no work right now. I guess they also need to work as teachers but that’s also not great so many students are coming out of animation school without any work and student loans to pay.

As someone who has studied animation for 5 years now, and graduating university with a Bachelors Degree in Animation this year, I do worry for the future of animation jobs, more specially in 2D animation. It brings comfort knowing that what I do can be picked up in many other industries such as Advertisements, Games Design, Freelance work and even commission work, and we aren’t just subjected to animation companies specifically. But I can’t help but worry as I would have wasted 5 years and £60,000 debt for nothing. My partner is currently going through this exact thing within the Games Design Industry, he’s studied 5 years in Games Design and recently companies have let off thousands of games designers. I theorise this has something to do with Covid and lockdown, and how many companies pumped out and developed many animations and games whilst people could work from home, but now covid is over and all those animations and games are being released, those companies don’t have a need for those employees anymore.

I was literally making a storyboard for something I want to animate when this was posted. I’ve always loved art and, for now, I don’t need to worry about much in terms of jobs, but yeah. Animation IS really doing bad. It’s saddening to see a job I could consider in the future doing so poorly as digital AND traditional art along with animating on my tablet are things I love to do. Honestly this is just sad. Companies like Warner brothers don't give a single shit about animators or animated shows. they had a lot of really cool looking shows coming out or old shows getting renewed and warner bros literally said SCREW OFF then straight up killed these shows even though they were really hyped up. Things like this will probably never get better and that makes me horrified of the future. Like what the hell is gonna happen in the future? The only way I can see things picking up again is if whatever people are in charge of these animation industries get fired, quit, or retire and the next person is smarter and hires animators and shit. im 19 and really wanted to do art/animation when i was a kid. i ended up dropping it due to depression and stopped considering it a viable career path around 13-14, because i could kind of see early on the way that the industry was going. im honestly glad that i did, even though its really sad. my community college has a lot of art/animation courses as well, so i frequently look at the art kids and think about how stressful it would be to be taking one of those courses in the modern day. im a programming student now and quite like it, but tech has a similar problem with over-saturation and competition, so i am a bit worried for the future here as well. wish you luck with getting something worked out

I am small animator and I do my animations for fun, but there was a time I wanted to make it my job (even my parents and friends keep saying I should make it my dream job) but ever since bigger studios began to erase cartoons and release their animators, it just made me thing maybe I should just do animation in my own time (I have tried doing animation requests but I have noticed I hate being put on a deadline and I also get very stressed and unhappy too) at least I have been thinking about doing stuff outside like entertainment stuff, but this is just sad to hear they lay off everyone :((

While companies like Disney and Dreamworks are failing, there are lots of indie studios that can revive the community. This isn't just an issue with animation. Pretty much the entire entertainment industry is about to implode. Movies and video games especially (music already has flatlined over the past eight-plus years with creative bankruptcy due to the fact that there are only four, count 'em, *FOUR* major songwriters who are doing the music and lyrics for virtually all of the modern pop artists, check out the book: The Song Machine for more) are on the ropes. Combine production budgets that were bloomed too high with revenues that are too low and add in Black Rock/Vanguard DEI nonsense (which means competent white and asian (especially male) creators are passed over in favor of incompetent non-white/non-asian creators that happen to check immutable-trait hiring checkboxes not related to merit, who inevitably produce poor quality products, which lose money when released, which results in losses that force cutbacks) and you have a perfect storm recipe for a competency crisis drying up the pool of capital and forcing cutbacks, layoffs and a perpetual inability to hire new talent or start new projects.

Animation as a job has been on the decline for years. With companies like Disney going from 2d to 3d and showing what the power behind 3d can do for a movie. I think the biggest decline for animation is Disney. They were a large animation company and when Chicken Little came out in 2005, they stopped using 2d and moved to 3d.

Tbh, I was in a major for animation but I changed it to digital media because I was not having any fun with the classes I needed to take and I felt like I'd have more opportunities with a digital media degree so I could work on videos, movies, IT, ect. I still want to do something involving animation in my future, but it's definitely something I want to do as a hobby and possibly turn it into a carrier, like Psychicpebbles did, who is actually my main inspiration. I just meant the animation industry is dead rn. Idk if your an animator in the work industry but nobody can find work ANYWHERE. Talented senior animators are out of jobs. It’s REALLY bad rn. Doesn’t mean it won’t get better and I mentioned that in the video that it could bounce back, but it’s hard to know when that’ll be and that scares me as an animator. The job industry for animation has been slowly tanking for a year and a bit now. Animation is never going to die as a whole, but us animators have no work right now and it feels dead. Also it’s unpredictable what A.I. will become, as of right now it’s not good enough to do solid animation but it freaks me out that one day it maybe could. I hope that if it does at least it doesn’t take away jobs from animators and it only can be used to help assist us. My information isn’t just from that article, that was just one other thing I found (after I scripted my video) that I thought I’d include. I’ve been trying to find work for MONTHS and watching other animators struggle too. If you check out LinkedIn you’d notice practically every animator says “open to work.” This is something I’ve seen as somebody in the industry, not from some article. Hope this helps explain things better, in no way am I mad with your comment. I understand exactly where your coming from and I also agree A.I. Would be terrible and not have the genius creativity of an actual human.

Even if mainstream animation work dies entirely, there shall always be a place for independent animation, particularly with the rise of studios like GLITCH. And that’s assuming studio work dies entirely in the first place; AI can’t replicate the human touch, and there are going to be studios, mainstream or otherwise, that cling to the human touch.

[ This is also why I choose career paths to Bio-Chem luckily before I hit college. It is a huge industry and there are so many creative people, but arts under appreciated and way too unstable. My parents told me that its best to stay a hobby due to the common mindset that art is luxury, including animation. I truly believe this mindset is one of the biggest factors, on top the mindset Art is not a real job. Nursing programs are fairly easy to get into and there is plenty of work + drawing will make you better at gauging pressure and drawing out where veins are! Its also much needed career so going medical is probably the best option for anyone who can animate/draw and can handle blood. Another needed career is teaching. In my area, they'll pay your college in full if you teach. Sanitary and Bus driver are also much needed in certain areas and pain decently most of the time too! I hope the tides will change for art, but in the mean time, everyone still needs to eat. ]

I don't know much about it cuz im only half way through the video and a classic type artist, you could try doing commissions. People pay a LOT 200-300$ on average, you decide your hours, you make all the profits, and the only downside is popularity, you might not get any for weeks in between

I'm far from an expert on these things, and I'm probably wrong about some stuff, but I think there are too many people who want to be animators. Animation sounds really fun, art is really fun, and everyone wants the fun jobs. Unfortunately, not everyone can have the fun jobs. Personally, I've always known since I was young not to "follow my dreams" it's much safer to get a nice, stable job and pursue my hobbies on the side. But, it's probably easier for me because I've never had a dream. I prevented myself from thinking about any of that because I thought it was pointless, and convinced myself I was bad at the things I loved like writing, drawing, and coding. While I've fully moved on from drawing and writing, and trying them just causes me pain, I'm hoping that maybe I can get into game developing as a hobby in the future.

Because I would say its significantly easier to target a dedicated niche audience than it ever will be to get your show manually picked up. *long ass sentence, I know.* But especially since everything in the indie animation sphere dislikes ai. At least a significant portion. While yes the indie sphere especially for games is saturated- animation, is not. And cannot, for how expensive animation can be. You see new indie shows popping up left and right now. Whether they'll be able to continue is a different story. However that's the chance based system animations always had. And thats the reason the *corperates* want to feed us regurgitated shows. But indie creators WILL, and we already see people are drawn to that.

I agree with the ai issue. They should create laws that regulate the use of ai, and limit their use in industries.(to protect people’s jobs) In my option it’s stupid; the company gets money either way. A little more money caused by ai doesn’t really effect them in the long run anyway. It doesn’t cause some astronomical world altering help for them does it? They would continue on the same as always wouldn’t they?They may get to pay less people, but they also lose the soul of the industry in the process.(ultimately leading to them making less as a company anyway in the long run, Right?)I can kinda understand if the company is in dire straits; but in most cases that could probably be solved with proper money management, good advertising(doesn’t need to be expensive), Building a connection with the fan/player-base, and a good CFO. _ . _
