The completion of Art Nouveau architect Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona is simulated in this movie released to show the final stages of construction anticipated before 2026, 100 years after the death of the architect.
The one-minute video published on the Sagrada Familia Foundation's KZbin channel shows each of the stages left and how the basilica will look when completed.
It combines helicopter footage of the current building with computer-animated renders to show spires, a central cupola and other remaining structures rise from nothing.
The Sagrada Familia Foundation has also published six one-minute movies showing 3D animations of the completion dates for each phase, including the Sagristia in 2015, Torre de Maria in 2018 and Torre de Jesus in 2020.
When the basilica is finished it will have 18 towers dedicated to different religious figures, of various heights to reflect their hierarchy. There are eight towers completed so far.

I'm not religious in any way but I went to see the Sagrada Familia in 2009 and when it is completed, inside and out, it will probably be the most beautiful building in the world. I was speechless when I saw the internal columns that looks like a forest of trees holding up the roof and central towers. The beautiful coloured glass windows letting sunlight beam down amongst the "branches" is just astounding . I'm hoping I live ling enough to go back and see it completed.

I saw something totally different. I see it as an assault on the eye. It looks like darts were placed at the front of the structure. Are these the fiery darts aimed at the LORD by satan? Ephesians 6:16 1611KJB

@@dianavance1137 You will be antagonising the faithful with claims like "satans darts". As I said, I'm not religious in any way, religion was created by men because we fear death and have an ego beyond their knowledge, but this building is truly astounding and very very beautiful.

I felt the same. I am not religious too, but Sagrada Familia was the most impressive church I have ever seen. Going inside makes my heart feel free, it lifted my soul. It maked my happy and touched my heart like no church before. I felt like I was walking in a forrest. No bad feeling like in the other dark churches. Gaudí designed a church for feeling free and loved. Believe should be like this, not make you feel like a sinner. I hope I will be able to see it again, when it is ready.

@@1Kent i don't have just a one answer for you but some of the reasons why it has taken so long are: It's utilizing artisan techniques not used on modern buildings. Master stone masons, master stone carvers, master glassblowers, etc are a rare breed in the 21st century. The entire structure is essentially handcrafted. But It's being built relatively rapidly now, and for the past 30 years. But because everything is handcrafted, work is slow. But prior to that: Spain had a very bloody civil war in the 1930s, and was then ruled by an oppressive fascist until 1972, and he didn't care to work on the Sagrada Famiglia so there was a huge chunk of time when no work was done. + what i said in a previous post. Also, corruption could be one of the reasons too, but i'm not the one to say anything on that subject.

There is a series of TV programmes called "the worlds largest buildings" the Sagrada Familia is included in the series. The building techniques they are using now is so fast because they are using thinner, lighter stressed stone and bolting it all together. It has been found that the foundations are not strong enough to take the weight of traditional building methods , namely the two metre thick walls in the towers needed to counteract wind sheer.

One of the most amazing structures on Earth. And still unnecessary, imo. Ironically - relligion, for which purpose this was build, teaches, that we should sell our unnecessary goods and give the money for poor, sick and hungry people.

@@AlexS-oj8qf Not for me. I am not Catholic. And it's still hipocrisy. According to Bible, Jesus himself teached on an empty, green hill, has weared simple robes, and always disliked all those highest priests with expensive clothes and temples full of gold. There are thousands of examples in whole Bible to prove, that this temple in Barcelona is wrong thing.

@@Headbangerr-en2cc That's the point. Monks ideals were "poor" so they are eligible for Charity, which they shouldn't. That's why Monks are Fat and Living among Gold and Silver while the rest of the worls starve.
