Thank you so much! I loved this tutorial. Its "bite sized" length was nice and I like the fact that you actually explained a specific technique. Most animation tutorials say draw a line here, here and here but, you actually explained why and elaborated on how you can use the technique in different ways.

One way I remember this is this: every part of the object/limb hits a certain high point before relaxing/ starting the loop over again.

Very nice. I would like to see you create a detailed tutorial of a waving flag. I understand what you say about the wave principle, but, as a beginner, it is very difficult to actually apply it when trying to animate, for example, a waving flag or a stormy sea. I am sure you could make a brilliant tutorial of such things.

That's a great idea. Maybe I'll do a "Part 2" exploring those types of things in more depth. Would be a good learning experience for me, since I'm still learning!

very good tutorial! Easy to understand and explains all the basic stuff! I have been studying 2d anime and one of the first exercise I have done was a flag animation.

Thanks! Oh cool, are you going to school for animation or teaching yourself? I love that anime has stayed focused on 2d animation, even though western animated films gravitate towards CGI. It's nice to have variety.

I need (free?) tutorials for the absolute beginner, how to draw cartoon characters, simple coloring and shading, nothing fancy, but learning babysteps by babysteps, how to get used to perspective, proportions, and so on! Any tips for me?

This is 4 years later, but I have a question. How would animating tentacles (for example: slenderman's tentacles) differ from animating other things such as hair and wagging tails?

Add in a few more frames between each basic scene. (Say like 4 between each scene). For each of those 4 frames: Stretch and squash them to keep the fluid flowing and going. Also make them move in the direction that the object is facing up or flowing down at. I hope this helps!
