I've played a lot of gacha games and by far the one with the most creative designs is R1999, and the EN dubbing is the best there is, and in terms of the setting (atmosphere and ambiance) ingame it's spectacular (easily one of the best in the gacha games)

Yeah, I gotta agree with how using the non-default skins really changes a lot of context for some of these characters, which diminishes the impact. Most of them are kind of silly and it removes some of the cultural connotations of the characters and removes a lot of context for their ultimates.

As a Druvis main, I feel her normal ultimate without the garment shown in the video isn't that good. But with garment equipped, it looks prettier than the normal ultimate. A lot of the characters shown are wearing garments instead of their normal design or the insight garment

Notable youtube video about it you can find is Book flipping by Armanimation for Spine, In Live2D you can also does it if you know what you're doing. Quite a few 3D stuffs at a glance in this video is also can be made in Live2D/Spine. Many 3D stuffs you see can actually be just a png that smartly composite.

Fantastic analysis! You've pointed out things that I can never ever unsee now every time I play, thanks a lot 🤣 Personally, I'd say my favorite animation-wise is Spathodea. It's so fiery (no pun intended), energetic, and that impact frame at the end really sells it so much for me. In general, my all-time favorite is Isolde's. That *"TI SOFFOCA IL SANGUE?!?!"* hits just right 👌 A shame they didn't show you some animations in their original outfits - the costumes did kinda change some aspect of their character-defining traits and animations. Case in point, Druvis III and Kaalaa Baunaa. Druvis is a druid, so in her original animation she shoots out thick vines rather than fabric, and Kaalaa is an astronomer with a close connection to a particular celestial body, which she brings down on her enemies in her Ult. The costume Kaalaa was released during the Paris Olympics, I believe, and that's why she looks like a gymnast. Originally she wears a traditional Indian Sari. Glad you enjoyed the animations! There's a lot more interesting animations the game has to offer, particularly the enemies and bosses with their sick as f designs, and I do hope you get to check them out in some way or form! And thanks for giving R1999 a look, it's severely underrated! Also, unrelated but your shock expressions are absolutely hilarious lmao

Really glad you got to this one. R1999 really needs to get more attention. It's just a really rock solid game in the gacha genre. Animations aside, there really isn't anything out there with this level of creativity when it comes to character design. The story is great. The music is something else.

Only issue I have with this is saying that ults that give buffs like Ulu's and 37's don't give enough impact, which I feel is intentional for them to be like that. People have already mentioned how some skins change the ults, and that default skins would be better to review. Regardless of that, I thought this video was great, and I'm glad Reverse 1999 is getting more recognition.

She speaks in Hexadecimal code, a code used during 1954 in programming APPLe is a literal apple, not a floating head. Bunny Bunny has super strength (it’s in her stories.) That’s why she used her leg to hold the food and drinks. Cristallo is sitting on a chemotherapy device as she has cancer. The animator (Dilongo) gets mad inconsistent when he reachs the 6 stars. Seems like he changed his criterias very harshly when he got to them, since most 6 stars far surpass the lowest stars in most things he pointed out before. It's very weird.

I really wish someone else mentioned this. Almost all of his rankings after the 4 stars are kind of strange. You can definitely pass it off as him going into the game mostly blind and not being sure how the actual ultimates of higher rarities would look, but seeing characters like NICK BOTTOM in the same tier as Lucy and Isolde is so jarring. Vila in D tier with all the terrible 2 and 3 stars? I wish he had of at least re arranged his rankings in the end. A personal nitpick was the fact he ranks higher based on the movement of the character model itself rather than the affect and impact, which I don't think was the correct criteria to be ranking for this particular game. Because of its chibi art style in terms of gameplay, it's a lot harder to have these thematic and fluid character animations compared to 3D games he normally reviews. Having characters like Rabies in S tier because they move cool is a bit jarring ngl 😭 I don't think by any means it's a bad video, I just kinda wish the criteria was made more clear for the rankings

I’ve been a day one player, so fun to see your reactions to all pf the different characters. One part that drove me in was that other games typically only had human characters as playable despite showing a variety of races and lifeforms. The closest Honkai Star Rail gets in this aspect is foxian lifeforms and more importantly puppet herta. Thank you for reviewing this game. Also, Nick Bottom comes from the Shakespeare comedy Midsummer’s Night Dream. The character Charlie aloes draws inspiration from Shakespeare, (she has lots of dialogue pertaining to King Lear, a play and reference to the ruler of her time) Other edit: some characters have different ult effects depending on the skin (e.g. Regulus has two different ones, the second was made a year after the first and sold as a skin). Sometimes it is a coloration change, but thatis the reason for the golden ratio in Sweetheart. It came out during the first Apeiron arc with characters 37 & 6. The garment is titled “The Preaching of Venus” and the fibbonachi spiral can be seen throughout the art. Anyways, Unique Regulus is the best currently. No doubt.

another cool detail about Marcus' Ult is the book flips to the diorama of the battle in progress with the enemy party on the left side, the party you have selected on the right side (like classic TB-JRPG used to do) divided along the spin of the book and it then "closes on the story" by snapping the book shut... colliding the left side with the right side. It's what I REALLY like in R1999; the ultimates basically tell ministories that fit with the character's lore and background. Like Semmelweiss seizing the night, Sotheby really just being a crazy girl alchemist who Fudges up way too much but hardly ever in a detrimental way (failing upwards) and Tuesday stomping her feet to summon the array of the haunted hotel to eat the enemy (she's literally putting her foot down to make her child obey)

If you want something similar to Reverse I HIGHLY reccomend Limbus Company Skill 3's + EGO's

Limbus S3 is not as fancy as EGOs and gacha games ultimates in general. S3 despite being the ult of an identity and most of the time the main source of dmg output has animations like: "hey, i bonked you hard in the head" or "shoot shoot slash slash slash" or pole dance. So if anyone outside limbus want to compare gacha ults in general to S3 they wont understand how much the depth the animation add to already chaotic combat scene

Honestly interested to see your take on the future characters though because those actually got better (at least imo) You ranked 37 quite low here, but I think you'll absolutely love her unique garment. Same goes with upcoming characters such as Mercuria, Joe, Anjo Nala, Argus, Tuesday and so on.
