The biggest reason, at least for me, is that Across the Spider-Verse is just PART ONE of a two-part story. I remembered an article presenting The Lord of the Rings trilogy as an example wherein the last and concluding installment won because it came in full circle. I am very confident that Beyond the Spider-Verse will follow suit and probably get more nomination like what they did with Toy Story 3.

I'm actually glad Boy and the Heron won, that film managed to emotionally grab so many audiences during the summer of 2023!!! Major congrats to everyone at Studio Ghibli and even G Kids 👏👏👏🎬

As this is the first adult animated film to win this trophy, being the fact that it’s rated PG-13, who knew that Hayao Miyazaki coming out of retirement led to this historic moment. Also, since this is Studio Ghibli’s second Oscar after Spirited Away, looks like Chihiro will not be alone anymore. Congratulations to Miyazaki and the team at Studio Ghibli, as well the North American distributors at GKIDS for this win. I haven’t seen it yet but this movie is definitely on my bucket list.

I didn’t know it was PG13. I’m waiting to watch it as well. I missed the theatrical release. I’ve heard it’s gonna return to theaters since it won the Oscar this year. So, I’m hoping to catch one of those screenings. Still waiting on screening dates and times.

I’m honestly glad Studio Ghibli won this year and not let L&M get rewarded for bad behavior. It’s for the best and hey, Miyazaki is now tied up with Pete Docter with the most wins in modern animation. I did included Miyazaki’s Honorary Oscar.

Not gonna lie, this was an unexpected surprise because, like everyone else, I was expecting Across the Spider-Verse to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar and was actually shocked that The Boy and the Heron managed to win. Although to be honest, I always wanted TBATH to win the BAF Oscar over ATSV, and I’m glad it did even when I didn’t expect it to. Congratulations to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli for their second Oscar for BAF in 2 decades.

My main point with Across the spider-verse is that it's a set-up movie for the next sequel. Unlike the first instalment that finished its story and character arcs, Across the spider-verse hasn't completed the story yet. Same case as Lord of the ring trilogy that didn't get the best picture award till the return of the king

Some people walked out because of the pink, white, and pale blue flag in one characters room. Even though I’m pretty sure most kids don’t even know or care about any of that.

Not to mention that The Boy and the Heron is also the first Studio Ghibli film to win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 21 years since Spirited Away, which won an Oscar in 2003.

A part of me is sad that Nimona lost, but, even as someone who hasn't seen How Do You Live (the original name for The Boy and The Heron), I'm honestly fine with this win. At least we have an adult animated film winning for once and thankfully it's a sign that 2D Animation is still alive and well.

Liked the Boy and the Heron, but wad hoping beyond hope one of The First Slam Dink, Blue Giant or Suzume got a nomination as well. And, honestly, would not have grumbled if any one of these had been nominated instead even just to highlight great Japanese animation does not start and end with Ghibli.

Sometimes I don't even know why I'm curious about the oscars every year at this point, cause I feel they're very pretentious and at least a bit too biased. (Plus, I already came to the conclusion that awards mean nothing in the end) For starters, movies should win awards cause the voters liked them the most, not because an old legend is attached to it or because it's an original film or because it came out at a convenient time (I'm sorry, but I just find all of that unfair), especially when they already won an oscar in the past. Unless you can't choose which one you like the most, which in that case, I say vote for the one (among your favorites I mean) that you think deserves it the most. And yeah, while Nimona (and Blue Sky) still technically already got it's storybook ending and shouldn't be affected by it's loss, I still feel it got shafted a little. In a way, I feel it was a huge missed opportunity to not only give Nimona more attention and pay tribute to Blue Sky, but to also give non-cisgenders more love and support.

I am still very heart broken that Nimona lost the Oscar for best animated feature. 9 years of development limbo led up to the film getting little to no awards. Now that award season is over, Nimona is going to be forgotten forever with no public attention, no home media release, no TV airing, nothing. Just stuck in the wasteland. How is blue sky studios going to get the revenge on Disney now? 😭

Well, at least it got critical acclaim and did well on Netflix. If Kubo’s still remembered after flopping in theaters, Nimona will still be remembered even though it came out on streaming. I heard that Troy Quane expressed interest in making sequels and spin offs to Nimona. I hope it’s really the case

I cheered when I was watching it Sunday. I’m glad it won. It won because it deserved it. Spiderverse didn’t win because it was ultimately a garbage film with controversial elements in it that caused some people to actually walk out of the theaters. If you read the user reviews on Google and Common Sense Media parents didn’t take too kindly to the pink, white, and pale blue… 😑 Edit: me personally doesn’t care about the flag being there. Most kids won’t notice it. I’m more upset about the cliff hanger which is why I called it garbage.
