Cillian Murphy deserves his Oscar, by order of the Peaky Blinders

Cillian Murphy carried the movie of the century. Giamatti's win would be a lifetime achievement award. The Holdovers was a cute little film, but Oppenheimer was a billion dollar juggernaut of historic import. Give Murphy's his due- he was a powerhouse and completely transformed into that character physically, mentally, verbally and emotionally.

After seeing both holdover and Oppenheimer I don't really understand why Giamatti is getting so many kudos. The movie was no average. I felt I had seen it all before. Giamatti was good, but by no means gripping. I have seen this kind of character many times before, played better. I was stunned when I heard he was nominated, let alone a favorite. He didn't get great reviews when the movie came out.

@sundance0611
@sundance0611 10 ай бұрын
Some odd things here - Lily Gladstone won the SAG award, which is usually the best indicator. So I reckon that prediction should be flipped. Emma Stone did something no one has ever seen before. If that doesn't win there is something wrong with people's judgement of acting. Gladstone is fine. She is the emotional core of that film but awards should be given to something exceptional which Stone gave us. And Past Lives? Is that the attempt to be cool? Probably my favourite film of the year but it's not an Oscar Best Picture winner. It's too slight. Best picture needs to have everything which Oppenheimer certainly does... I would like to see more wins for Poor Things. That was the innovative outlier that did something new.

Sorry, his 'lack of movement'? What on earth does that mean? And his accent? What are even picking up on? Neither of these things detracted or were an issue 'in the slightest'. "Louder does not mean better." Agreed, absolutely. Quiet performances -- which I believe are more challenging for an actor than over-the-top ones -- rarely get the love they deserve. But even though I loved Gladstone's performance, I keep stumbling over the fact that her role just wasn't as big as it should have been. The menfolk controlling the narrative -- screenwriters, director -- didn't let her take center stage as she deserved, so that the movie seems less about her than about unnominated Leonardo di Caprio. Mollie should have been the movie's protagonist. She wasn't. The best LEADING performance by an actress I saw this year is another quiet performance, but was outrageously denied a nomination: Greta Lee in "Past Lives."

How did _Oppenheimer_ get left out of the Best Visual Effects category? Simple: Aside from some compositing, there are no visual effects anywhere in the movie, since all the "effects" were shot in-camera. It's like asking why _Toy Story_ was left out of the Best Makeup category. Because it didn't apply.

Christopher Nolan deserves the award. Love Scorsese but he missed the mark by not editing that movie down by 45 minutes to an hour. Great movie but the length watered down all the performances and story. At 3.5 hours it could’ve been better served as a 4-part miniseries.

RDJ really was great in Oppenheimer, but De Niro truly blew me away in Killers of the Flower Moon. Especially when you consider his long career and all his diverse roles, it’s amazing that he was still able to play a role that felt so fresh and different from the rest of his work. And not just that, also expertly performed. Within that one film there are moments where he seems genuinely kind, helpful and empathetic. But then also malicious, selfish and downright evil. And the subtleties in his performance are masterful. The way he communicated so much with just certain facial expressions had me floored. I do believe De Niro is one of, if not the greatest actor of all time and I think this performance ranks very highly on that list. And that in and of itself is an astonishing achievement, especially when considering his age and already well-established career.

As someone who has a lot of experience working in sound for over 30 years, I can say conclusively that your statement that Oppenheimer should win sound shows a massive ignorance on your part. Zone of Interest is a arguably the most significant and perfectly done piece of sound work since Saving Private Ryan. And to compare that level of work to a reasonably good job which is Oppenheimer means that you should probably stick to areas you know enough about to a a educated opinion.

Love it when people claim to work in a field to strengthen their opinion. Oppenheimer has amazing sound design - as does Zone of Interest. Two very different projects where the winner is much of a muchness. For animated short, what a terrible hot take. Not a strong entrance at all.

Wow if you could bet on winners you would actually be great. Only guessed 6 wrong. best animated short wrong, best sound wrong. You were right that Godzilla minus one should win and wrong guessing it won't win :) You were right that costume and design should win (and it won) but you were wrong guessing Maestro will win, wrong about who would win in best animated feature film, the boy and the heron won as you rightfully thought. it should Wrong on best adapted screenplay on both who will and who should win. American Fiction won

Thank you! Well done. I don't go to the movies any more, nor watch the Oscars, nor care really. But I'll watch such a rundown @ 2X speed.

Maestro can't win ant major award because it's bordering on being a hagiography. It presents a distorted version of Bernstein, whose reputation is based on a false narrative from the sacred cow coverage in the press. I posted a video on my KZbin channel titled THE BERNSTEIN EFFECT that explains the collateral damage he caused to the arts. He used the Young Peoples Concerts as a platform to ruin the way symphonies and concertos are performed. His teachings eliminated the development of processing variables in bigger and bigger batches, which destroyed the intellectual development of conductors, pianists and composers. This ruined classical music as an art form and a business. Most of the classical recordings are now vanity records. I explain who's making the vanity records and who's paying for it. Maestro will only win for MakeUp. That's it.
