It depends on where the light is coming from for example here’s the light source is from the right side

i think you can do it correctly after doing a lot practice and refer shading from references, at least that's what i thought the most effective way since I'm doing that too 🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

Extra tip: if you want the shading to have a little brighter line at the end (as shown) add a slight lighter color than the shaded hair, put it above and lower the opacity.

This isn’t really the best tutorial for beginners because then they will try to copy this in every hair they shade- even though it’s supposed to be depending on the light source. So instead Olof saying “base color” then “shade” and then “highlights” say why you put them there and how you know where to put them

Art babies! Before proceeding to follow this tutorial, I highly advice finding your light source! Know where your light is coming from and know that light affects form. So, I don't think you should add highlights and shading just anywhere you want. Look for a reference and see what i mean. Also, always ask "why". Why add shading here, why put highlights there. Always know the reason behind it! 😅

To those who need to know where the highlight/sjad is, refference it, and draw an imaginary dot where the light is coming from. Then draw the area you want light. Boom, light source👍 Remeber things that are behind an object, has its own shadow and the shadow of whats in front of it.
