I'm kind of sad that the only thing people seem to mention about Yuri on Ice is the gay romance, which was great, but there were so many other things great about it (like the international non-stereotypical cast, that even the more minor characters had their own motivations and weren't just obstacles to overcome, the realistic depiction of anxiety, etc.)

I'll say it's just well executed on what it delivers. Some folks might disagree, but I liked that it can be comedic in the more serious scenes, but that is mostly limited to its first season. Nope. People liked YoI for the songs, for a decent portrait of anxiety and depression (Shinji could never) and yes, for ice skating too. Of course the fanbase has tons of crazy and annoying af fujoshi, but was a simple plot with good characters and thats all. About Keijo... wasn't a bad anime for me, but I dropped cause resembles a lot with tons of anime I already watch when the subject is humor and characters, making me get bored.

Honestly it's kind of both. I mean the whole point of the show is how yuri comes to term with himself as a person and finds out more about the world and himself to become a better skater. Falling in love is just part of finding his inner balance which improves his skating. Also, the show focuses on other characters and their skating careers too.

Sorry this is long but ngl YoI does have flaws (great skating animation being downgraded a lot after a few episodes, but get better during the last few ones, etc.), but the reason why I appreciate it so much is because of it's diverse cast of characters (you don't understand how happy I was to see some really good representation on a southeast asian, being one myself ^^), all having realistic motivations and non of them being stereotypical antagonists, for example it's just really refreshing to see the American being represented by a Mexican instead of the standard blue eyed-blonde hair character...and yes I do wish we got more development out of them but yeah. Also being LGBT it's so nice to see a non sexualized queer couple, and I really tend to hate yaoi and yuri, but hey it's mainly aimed towards straight people anyways. This couple makes me feel proud to be queer and shows that love is beautiful regardless of gender...And I like the way the protagonist is a late bloomer, not some prodigy, he was chubby at first and clearly had some anxiety disorder, but as episodes went on we see how he developed and ends up being a relatable character rather than some Shinji Ikari (no hate to eva in any way) Sorta like Kosei Arima from your lie in april. Lol sorry if its too long but yeah yoi isnt perfect but i have it kept in a special place in my heart.

But what I meant to say was that the relationship isn't fetishized or used to turn straight women on, unlike most yaoi. Most yaoi usually fetishizes two gay men having sex (and some even romanticizes rape!) but when it comes to Yuri and Victor it somewhat feels natural in a way (not saying they had those 'moments') but like in a way a straight couple would be written in other romance genres, healthy and natural (not saying that there are problematic straight ones). And yes I know there's some yaoi out there who don't fetishize gay men but I hope you understand where I'm going. But I get what you mean too. 😊

in my oppinion Keijo!!!!!!!! was the best anime to come out this year...its very different from the usual best anime in a year because its entirely satire but its done so insanely well you have to give them props. they set out to play a game and they kept playing it the whole way trough. it was what kill la kill should have been basically. i think the year was overall weak enough for a satire to be the best in the year.

Your Mom jojo and mob psycho dont really have any major flaws...but they dont have anything really great about them either. drifter is just another violent and gory show and the story is just an excuse for the violence and gore. i have nothing against it i actually enjoyed it but its not a great show it just isnt. Keijo!!!!!!!! on the other hand did what shows like kill la kill, one punch man and mob psycho tried to do and did it much better. sure the animations are shitty but thats pretty much the only thing that is worst.

Funny you say this cause I started Keijo!!!! expecting a fun like I had with KlK and dropped after a few episodes cause bored me. Thats the dangerous things about this type of anime: humor is probably the hardest thing to do - way more harder than drama or romance... the line between you get or lost someone with a joke is barely there, so easily a scene that someone loved another person can be just okay with.
