To be fair, which aliments did Thorfinn miss? I think he learnt to hunt animals on his own a few time after starting to follow Askeladd, so his nourishment really didn't depend on Askeladd himself, right? If he stayed with his family, probably he would have missed some vegetables and other important aliments anyway, considering his family lived in a place where besides fishing you couldn't really do much for eating. I personally believe that it might just be genes; Helga is as tall and Thorfinn and besides height they also have blond hair.

Also, genes don't really work like that, the odds of a kid being waay shorter than his dad is very low. Thors was 180 cm while Thorfinn is 155, compare that with Ylva being 170 again and you see that genetics had no play in thorfinn's development. Of course, we can only speculate but the malnourished Thorfinn theory is the one that makes the most sense.

@@adknight1987 I mean, It doesn't reduce your current height, but since your body doesn't have the requiered nutriends and stuff, you can't develop normally. Of course, there's a bunch of other factors that could be in play. I don't know how true it is, but people say that you also stay shorter if your muscles grow big when you're a kid. Not sure how true that last one is but the malnutrition is 100% true, it's the reason people in poor nations tend to be shorter (same with isolationist cultures like japan, due to a limited variety in their diet) while richer nations tend to be taller, for the opposite reason than japan.

But that’s because the AVERAGE people in general don’t fight or have any strength experienced, therefore In a untrained vs untrained fight that HEAVIER opponent wins, which is typically the taller guy. But if the shorter guy is more stout and the taller guy is a stick, he most likely loses. If the tall stick has training and the short stout has none, then short stout loses. Short and light can even beat tall and heavy if they’re trained, while the tall and heavy isn’t. The advantages of untrained fighting will always be weight and height. Height can be useless if you have zero weight. And weight can be lessened in value if you’re extremely short. But we’d be taking 5’0 short.
