The ironic deaths of each homonculus: Lust died at the hand of a man who felt nothing towards her. In fact, she was attracted to him more than he was to her, and his coldness towards her was exactly what she was attracted to. Gluttony got eaten. Simple as that. Envy was jealous of humans' ability to form bonds with each other, even when they were previously enemies. However, once someone finally did empathize with him, he couldn't handle it and killed himself. He never actually wanted what he envied humans for. Sloth died after giving it his all and fighting to the bitter end, all for an objective that wasn't exactly imperitive to Father's plans since all the sacrifices were gathered and he had kind of already won from his perspective. I'm sure Father would have wanted Sloth to help him subdue his sacrifices rather than die just trying to kill General Armstrong. And so he worked himself to death when he really didn't have to. He died because he was too dogged in his pursuit to get the job done. Really, Sloth was the hardest-working homunculus of them all. Sure, he complained about his work the whole time, but who dug the tunnel for Father's transmutation circle all by himself while all the other homunculi were lazing about in Central? Sloth did. Wrath's death is ironic for several reasons. He possessed the Ultimate Eye and was militantly atheist, but he died because he was blinded by the end of the eclipse, which he interpreted as divine justice. Furthermore, he was killed by a man of faith who once was consumed by wrath and overcame it. Lan Fan showed up and could have avenged Fu, but didn't. And finally, Wrath dies in peace, happy with the life he led. Pride was defeated because he threw away his honor as a homunculus and tried to escape into a human body. Every other homunculus died with their pride intact, having no desire to become human, except him. Pride was even content with Ed turning him into a human so that he could live his life as Mrs. Bradley's child. Greed died satisfied with what he had, and died while sacrificing himself so his friends could defeat Father, which was the ultimate act of selflessness. He gave it all for his friends. Father died because his son betrayed him. Furthermore, he thought himself to be above God's judgement, but was judged harshly by the Truth in the end. Is the writing of FMAB the GOAT or what?

The Dwarf/Father will spend eternity in despair for his sins, unable to understand what he was unwilling to understand. That's truly a messed up fate. Edward on the other hand did what the Dwarf/Father was incapable of doing, recognizing that he was only human in the end and that was more important than power. Ed grew in ways that the Dwarf, for all his greed, never could. Also pretty sure these last two episodes are some of the most emotional moments in anime.
@darknessunknown4384 Жыл бұрын
Greed: Sacrificed himself to save his friends, and help Ed deliver the final blow to Father; dying content that he had gotten what he truly wanted. What makes Greed's actions especially powerful is that he willingly chose the purest form of charity; the virtue that opposes greed. While Sloth did display diligence (the virtue that opposes sloth), it was under compulsion; Greed was the only one that chose to pursue his virtue, RIP.
@WaywardVet Жыл бұрын
Never picked up on Greed. I saw the irony in all the other sins, but greed... Yeah. Died selflessly.
@LordTyph Жыл бұрын
He didn't display diligence, really. He obeyed mindlessly instead of choosing for himself. Sloth isn't simply being lazy, it's effectively 'going with the flow' and choosing to do nothing about things. Sloth never once did more than complain about the orders he was given. He just went with it because it was easier than doing anything else (likely because he would be punished). Ironically, if he rebelled and refused to do anything, he'd be a lot less slothful.

What solidifies FMA as the best anime is the fact that it doesn't try to cop out of acknowledging sins of the protagonists like Roy and his gangs. Other animes would've definitely copped out and tried to justify these sins of protagonists by creating bs plot armor so the protagonists can remain "good guys." Here, even though they weren't directly responsible for overall genocide, they still acknowledge they played a part in it (no matter what circumstances) and takes accountability. They don't try to cop out. They're self aware of their "crimes" and are actually working to set things right and prevent things like that from ever happening again. They don't expect to be forgiven, they just want to atone for their sins because it's the right thing to do. Those are some beautifully well written protagonists right there

As far as the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime, you have to accept that it's not the same story. The two series have different approaches, different moods, and different themes, and while the first show did go in some strange directions at the end and wasn't as tightly written as the manga/Brotherhood, it always stayed true to its underlying themes.

Hey, if you want to re-watch the show (understandably), go watch the OG show. It will give you a lot more perspective on some of the characters. You can mesh a lot of stuff from both shows in one story. For me, The Dwarf in the Flask, lived his entire life in a flask. After the initial one, the Xing Empire became his second "flask", and then Amestris even a bigger "flask". Then he wanted the Earth and then the entire Universe as a flask. At the end, he was, indeed, consumed by Greed.

From your comment about the different ending it sounded like you might not be aware of exactly what happened with FMA 2003, and I didn't see another comment explaining it, so in case you didn't know: FMA 2003 was releasing while the manga was still being written, and they passed it when Greed is first introduced in Dublith. Everything after that point is just the anime writers making up what they think might happen next, without any knowledge of later reveals. As you might imagine, it ends up diverging a lot. However, the part of the story that is covered by both FMAB and FMA03 is covered in more depth in the original anime. The creators of brotherhood stated that they assumed everyone would watch 03 first, so they rushed through the overlapping material to get to the new material. Some early storylines are skipped entirely in brotherhood, including the introductions for characters who seem to appear out of nowhere later on. I definitely think 03 is worth checking out - I'd almost say just watch it on your own time whenever you get to it, except that apparently every youtuber does that, so there's much fewer reactions to it than to FMAB (in fact, I'm not aware of any reactions to the original), so you'd be filling a massive hole in the market. It might be worth reacting to for that reason alone.

Took me ages to think what giving up the portal again. Human transmutation is called over and over again a sin. Taboo. The transgression. Playing god. By giving up the portal Ed is giving up temptation. The ability to play god and reshape the world. Making himself unable to commit the taboo ever again. Any of the alchemists could regain what they lost by giving up their portal. Only Ed did it.

After watching FMA AND FMAB more than 6 timea and countless FMAB reactions from start to finish and beyond, I have come to a realisation that, if you really wan't to enjoy, don't watch it to make a content out of it. Don't react for others. Enjoy at your pace and on your own. Most of the reactors are conscious of they being recorded. And I have seen reactors fake the reaction, some become poser or showoffs, some are eager to show themselves as overly smart and pretend to predict everything, or make their theories. Some will hide their real emotion or some will even try to fake the emotions. A lot of them will say they liked the show even if their reactions are quite contrary, because of the fear of getting hate comments. But worst of all, their attention is not in the show and miss the details and blabber pointlessly. So sit back, relax, forget the world and enjoy by yourself or your real friends. This virtual world is just adding up to your loneliness and pathetic mess of a life. Try to make some real friends.

For the record, sacrifice of portal can only work in the case of Elric brothers as the exchange of Ed is his brother, and hence Ed and Al can both return using Al's portal. Roy cannot use the portal as exchange of his eyes because once the portal is gone, he has no portal to return to reality. This is clearly explain in the original manga. As a result, using portal as exchange can only work forselfless reason, not for a person's own sin.
