it is just that Rimuru and his friends are so strong already. Geld would already be like a raid boss for regular humans. Shizue and Hinata are considered to be very strong yet they look very weak compared to Rimuru. Demon Lords are not a common accurence they are very old and take a long time to awaken(normaly that is).

To be fair, saare (the grey haired midget that talked shit in the beginning) is an incomplete saint and would have been able to beat almost any of rimuru’s subordinate at the time, except for diablo who ended up being his opponent and now everyone thinks he’s a joke.
