Well... I'm not sure if you pay enough attention. First I don't think he watching her half second more than the others means any special thing, and also could be since she's the "cute girl" of the squad, and that attract more audience. Also in the manga you can't measure the time so I doubt the timing is something important. And about the sigils, Levi takes them from all his death comrades, he said that himself. And the sigil he gives to the background character was from that friend they were crying about, he also said it himself. The fact that her father wanted to marry her with a captain (very convenient) doesn't say anything about their feelings.

I don't think they were in love. When her father said something to Levi about him marrying Petra, I got the feeling that Petra talked about the captain so much to her father/family, that the dad assumed that they were seeing each other in a romantic relationship. I think Levi's facial expressions at seeing her corpse is the same expression when he looks at all his fallen comrades. If he loved her, as blunt as Levi is, I think he would have showed at least some emotion at seeing her dead body.

i think it might have something to do with Isabel from the OVAs. What do you mean "there is no clear answer in the show"?? The whole episode narrative is built (also) around this concept, there are many hints before the father+letter scene. Like, when Levi comes across his "besties'" dead bodies in the woods, one by one, Petra is the last and clearly most heartbreaking sight for Levi (it's a climax). Later, when the survivors of the mission are running back chased by titans and dropping their comrades' dead bodies, the scene lingers on Levi's eyes watching Petra's body falling off the carriage. Again, it's the last body we see. It's just one of my favorite episodes, I know the scenes by heart😅 And I think it's central in Levi's character development because it implies he did have a chance to have a normal-ish life, definitely something beyond its expectations (he probably imagined for himself a life of loneliness as "humanity's strongest soldier"). We see it fade away the moment we know about it, just like he does. His mind has just been blown in the most tragic way yet he walks on. One sacrifice at a time. That's Levi's character.

Though Petra did have a crush on Levi, which is why Orlo started acting and dressing like him, Levi didn’t feel the same. In fact Isayama even went as far as to say Levi has never been with anyone in that way because of what he saw his mother go through. I think Petra and Levi cared about each other very deeply, I think it was a specific love just between them, but I don’t think Petra was ever going to pursue an actual relationship. The war on titans came first. I think Levi felt the same. This doomed love hypothesis can be pried from my cold dead, gnawed off hands.

Honestly, I absolutely don't see how we can ship Levi and Petra. Their interactions were almost non-existent. It seems like fans love to ship a character with any girl there might be, even without any chemistry and no signs that they feel anything for each other. Yes, it's true that Petra had immense respect for Levi and seemed to admire him, but that's where it ends. She had more interaction with Oluo than Levi and yet people still find a way to ship them together. He was affected by her death because she was the youngest and most innocent of the group. What you seem to have forgotten is that he was affected by the death of EVERY member of his squad. Besides, how come you say that Levi took the sigil of Petra? The face of the person he took the sigil from was NEVER shown.

Hey! Isayama interview nerd here! 👋 Isayama came out in an interview confirming that levi never had feeling for any one in the show. He was never in love and never had any interest in any of the characters! However Isayama says that levi thought that Petra was "cute" but that was it. He always saw her as a friend. 😊 As for Petra feeling. Isayama said that she respected levi. But she had always had feeling for Oluo Bozado the whole time. The reason petras dad approached levi was because he got levi and Oluo mixed.😅 The reason levi reacted the way he did when petras dad talked to levi, was because he felt like he had let her down as a captain. That he did not deserve her respect 😢 In the end Petra died along the side of her crush. But this is an interesting idea for sure! Its hart breaking, for!!
