Thanks for doing a great presentation at Lake Mungo Gordon. I was born less than a hundred kilometers from there. You are you right, most locals haven't been there or know it's true self. This has motivated me to go back and spend more time there. Thanks mate👍

Wonderful Gordon, especially the description of time and dreaming. I have arrived at the same thoughts through Islamic Neo-Platonism, but its so refreshing to find more ancient and animistic roots. Also the idea of a post-apocalypse hope has strong resonance with with story of Sabdo Palon in Magalang Java. Java became Muslim on the condition that its rulers ruled wisely and with compassion. Should they break this condition Sabdo Palon will arise and we believe this will be seen in a series of natural disasters.

You convey well the placeness of this place, and I recently read The Handbook of Contemporary Animism, so connect w Deborah Bird Rose's work. Love the resolution of the remains - maybe a few indigenous remains in US need to go back to their peoples?!

Went there a few years ago. The place has deep serenity and presence. The area is a huge archeo-cemetry with most remains still in place.

What a wonderful video! Thank you so much. I knew none of this, and I've lived in Sydney for 35+ years. Yours is also the clearest explanation of the Dreamtime that I've ever heard. Lovely, lovely visuals too.

Video games are / at least have the potential to be the cave paintings of our era: engage large communities in participatory actions and not only the largest artform of our era but also one in which an animistic worldview is germane. The rise of XR potentiates this further. Thoughts?

Wonderful, Gordon. I've been thinking a lot about the complex deep-time of the area I'm from more and more as I age and write stories set in these old hills. The idea of place-as-character within the western context of story is an angle that maybe even very westernized people can use as a jumping off point for this in our own lives. As your traditional first guest questions often reveal, it seems like an interaction between "liminal" experiences of place with "fiction" have such a deep power to cut through layers of cultural trauma and allow us all to regain healing contact with the weird-kids inside us all. Thanks for this one ❤

You must spend two clear sky nights at the Parachilna Gorge in South Australia. My daughters and I spend a week here every winter. The spiritual energy is palpable. It is not my ancestors’ country but that is very near. The landscape is as a mother to me and has been since the 80s. I’m sincere. Let me know if you are ever in old SA and have a few nights spare. I’ll tee it up. My shout.

Fabulous! Absolutely fabulous. ❤ And especially interesting for those of us who also follow the cyclical catastrophe theory that is discussed on the Suspicious Observers channel. On that channel, we have heard of Lake Mungo repeatedly, but in a different context. This video, introducing the elements of animism and the sacred, this is the important part. Yes, Lake Mungo does indeed have much medicine to offer for this time. She reminds us that the wheel is ever turning.

At what point would a human not be considered a person, i.e. due to not having agency, or being possessed by the agency of another or an institution? Someone without their own agency, e.g. an extremely disabled human, may still have agency in affecting the emotions of the people that love them. The possessed person may also have agency in the form of objectification for the possesor. What about someone posessed by tyrannical institutions that are not aware of their existence, who cannot exercise any agency, and who also does not affect anybody else like family or close friends. Is their personhood threatened, and are they less person than someone who is more free? Do tyrannical societies become disenchanted as a function of removing the agency of it's collective constituents, and therefore removing the "personness" of the society?
