This is Spiritual Studies session #57.
Brought up several times throughout the course, this particular session devotes itself entirely to the subject of animism and aims to provide an elaborate familiarization for visiting listeners and longstanding course followers. This session will be of great benefit for sessions to come.

Spirit guided me to Canada to protect water. I'm Australian. In a turn of very syncronistic events , i met with The Gitxsan in British Columbia pre 2012. I would then catch a chief doing a deal with Enbridge and stop the biggest industrial expansion of tar sands oil in human history. The water associated to this area is Laurentide Icesheet. (I didn't know this) later I would be given a book People of the wolf (the tribe I'm adopted into is wolf) I opened the book and saw Laurentide Ice Sheet...... my name is Lauren ❄ Mni Wiconi .. Water is Life. 💙🙏 I have known and seen alot since a child. but they label me mentally unwell lol You are truly an amazing insightful person. So thankful for your channel 💓

There are few lectures where I cling to every word, highly underrated stuff. There are so many reasons we've strayed away from animism and I think you really tackled it well, but the reason I enjoy your videos is more or less just how you find such deep conversations. You could of gone in a million directions with this subject, I'm impressed you stayed on topic as much as you did. More than anything this really just goes to show how intertwined with nature we are in every way. As a learner of the environment and paleoanthropology these sort of conversations are my favorite.

My husband was a monk for twenty years in a Hindu mystical tradition. The reason he explained for offerings is that it allows for the non physical to have something physical to bring it's energy into during ceremony. It allows that energy a way to anchor and manifest. They did ceremonies for days and weeks sometimes.

Can't believe I'm so tardy to the party! Finally got to sit down and go through this one, and am, once again, completely enthused. It's amazing that my research brought me to yours 50+ videos ago, which sparked a new tangent of discovery of Gnosis, which has now come back full circle with Animism. Can't wait for more!

I am a mestiza woman of Puerto Rican descent. These realities speak to me more than anything ever has, and it’s almost as if…I’ve always felt it? Like…it’s always made sense to me, but because, and especially in my culture, Christianity has taken such a violent hold, that I’ve, and these realities, have been pushed to the fringes, to the outside of acceptability. Thank you for making this so clear to those who could understand. You have no idea what your channel has done for me. May the mother bless you

You should do a video on ancient/traditional Japanese folk religion aka Shintoism. Also have you ever done a video on native American/Meso-American spirituality/religious beliefs? The ancient Mayans, Aztecs, Olmecs & Inca, then all the North American peoples. Even Eskimo/Inuits I wonder what their mythological & cosmological beliefs are. Oh and Australian Aboriginal dreamtime. I'm a huge fan of your work. Just trying to think of religious realms of thought I haven't seen on this channel. Please don't stop making content your channel really is awesome. Oh, & maybe secret societies and what they believe in & practice. God bless. 🙏🏻

With Shinto, the Olmec, and Inuit beliefs, they've gotten mentions, some with more depth than others, in comparative religious sessions. For instance the Olmec got some time in the Shapeshifters, Chimera talk. However, they all have yet to have their own bonafide session. Very noted, especially when it comes to North American natives, they have gotten the most references throughout the course, but like the others no focus sessions... yet. However, the Aboriginals of Australia do have a dedicated session on the course. Getting back onto talking about secret societies is in the rotunda. I've had a hankering for it. Next in the itinerary is roughly the Dogon, the Taino, and then back to secret societies (though I really want a dedicated session on Shintoism so that could mix it up). I appreciate your kind words. Sessions have been limited in their release as of recent being that I'm in the throes of grad school, however, when the summer comes, there will be greater consistency with posted sessions.

Yes, my father used to say, "everything is conscious, even rocks." I've often thought, that's all the religion I need. I know you said this isn't religion. But somehow what people call religion, causes so much pain and suffering, I'd prefer my father's simple point of view. It isn't going to hurt anyone.

Animism is simply the belief that all of nature is animated by spirit. It’s sacred bc of that. Cameron captured it reasonably well in Avatar. Obviously traditional cultures like Native American people are his template, but he captures the spirit of their spirituality.

@cgdahlin
@cgdahlin 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly there's no big secret to it. It's a mixture of past research and then refreshing myself when dedicating to a topic. From my youth onward I've been investigating independently and then later professionally or academically. So put simply, it's knowing and being able to discern proper sources, plenty of past and present book reading, lived experiences sharing space with various religious traditions, and scouring the internet. I always leave some links in the description for anyone who want to look where I was looking or investigate further.

Western Cultures have roots in paganism. The Native Americans and the European Pagans both had an understanding of the four elementals. The only difference is that the europeans thought their spirit was in the sky/air and the native americans thought their spirit was in the earth. If you think about it, christianity is sun worship, and the word pagan seems to just be a derogatory term towards spiritual practices that honor nature. Western people who came from areas where the cold snow and ice were their threats would end up worshipping fire and the sun more. African cultures of the dessert and drought would probably end up worshipping water more in Hoodoo and Voodoo. So culturally we degrade hoodoo and voodoo as evil because western culture's worshiping of fire and the sun. Fire and the sun, although representative of light, in excess are extremely destructive which leads us to our current state of so many nuclear weapons we could blow up the planet. Christianity is really as pagan as any other religions in that it worships the "Sun" or "Son"

Animism makes at least as much sense as the now accepted religions. Like the nailed god resurrected, and traveling to heaven in person, or Muhammad riding his horse to heaven. Come on, how is that more believable than animism??? I'd rather believe that a mountain, a river, a lake, a tree and so forth, has spirit.
